manphibian Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Anybody have a sticker front number plate? Would like to see how it looks. did a search, but the only topic i could find descended into bumming and one armed handjobs in less than 1 page Quote
jenic Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Yep, i do. More - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=52883 Quote
manphibian Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 Cheers jenic, looks great here you go biscuit: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=39708&hilit=sticker+plate&start=15 Quote
Stroudy Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Now that i like. Cleans the front up nicely. Where did you get the sticker plate? Quote
jenic Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I got mine from Craigs Plates. Its legal height, spacing and all that but apparently stick on isn't technically allowed so its a show plate. I doubt anyone would say anything though, especially being on the front. See loads on MX5's Quote
Viper Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 i can make one for you, any size you like. Ive ran several sticky plates for years on other cars and have never had a problem, though the less friendly MOT places may ask you to put the correct plate on. Quote

Niko Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Yep, i do. IMG_1528 by mjenic, on Flickr More - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=52883 I was gonna do this to mine but when I removed the numberplate they was 2 holes there so thought it wouldn't look right, did yours have the same holes? and how did you get round it Cheers Quote
jenic Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Yes it did, i just stuck over them, they aren't big holes compared to the size of the plate so it sits flat and you can't tell they are there. I need my front bumper respraying eventually due to stone chips, so plan to get them filled then, and maybe move the plate to the lower grill. Quote
Beau Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Looks very clean like that! Worth changing it I think, How much was it for the plate? Quote
SteveW Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Thats what I'm looking to do when I get my new front bumper, I don't want to be putting holes in it! Quote
Keyser Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I have a "proper" numberplate but without the mount just stuck on. Sort of halfway between Quote
Willy P Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 That's exactly what I did Keyser. It looks a lot better than the original bracket. Quote
M13KYF Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 perfer a proper numberplate stuck on. Vinyl one looks a bit kit car Quote
Daryl Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I have a stick on plate,as it was on the car when i got it. I think it looks so much better than the standard mount and plate. Never had any problems with the police, and it passed its MOT with it on. Though strangely the crate of Red Bull id left in the boot had disappeared! Hers mine Quote
SteveW Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I have a "proper" numberplate but without the mount just stuck on. Sort of halfway between Hi mate, just wondering what you used to stick yours on to your front bumper? I prefer a real plate over the sticker. Cheers Steve Quote
Willy P Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Go to halfrauds to the numberplate men and get some sticky tape stuff they have there. There's 2 options I think, 1 and 3mm thickness. I went with the thicker one seeing as the bumper's quite curvy. I'll try and find a link Quote
Willy P Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 This is the stuff: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165562 Quote

Looking to do this modification over the next few weeks but wondered whether I can remove the plate bracket without having to remove the front bumper as really don't fancy taking it off? Quote
Lexx Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 As has been said above - Stick on vinyl numberplates are technically illegal. Although it is somewhat a gray area - as they are generally used at stupid angles on bonnets etc. My choice would be as Keyser shows (I had this on my last Zed). Just stick down with 2 x 1mm pads, and 2 x 5mm from Halfords. Quote

You don't need to take the bumper off - take the plate off the mount, then just unscrew the Number Plate Mount off - half hour job max Quote
Keyser Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Hi mate, just wondering what you used to stick yours on to your front bumper? I prefer a real plate over the sticker. Cheers Steve I used 3 x 3mm numberplate sticky pads (as mentioned above) form eBay, 1 on each end and one in the middle because of the curve - never moved since I put it on ianphampton - It makes illustration pics so much better when you have an invisible friend to hold the tools Quote
