What car did you own when you was 20

I had a del Sol SiR great little car 168bhp, electric roof and vtec sounded amazing with the rocket of an exhaust I had (Tanabe SMR - those who know will know how loud they are) I bought it standard and learned how to tinker with cars and built it all up. I sold the car to a guy in Essex, then a guy around the corner bought it back last year! My brother upstaged me at 18 by getting one while I still had mine, I have to say it was one of the most fun cars I've ever owned. Here's some pics:

I had something really sensible for a 20 year old - a full size 1976 Chevy Caprice estate that was just 4 years old...

Front bench seat column shift, electric clamshell tailgate - with the rear seat down it would take an 8x4 sheet of ply! It was a sea of red naugahyde (vinyl...) inside, sadly I didn't take any photos of that.

I got it as it was going very cheap - bought the year before for £4000, mine for £1000 as he'd emigrated to the US and needed it sold.

I added a towbar - it simply bolted to the bumper! The bumpers were the jacking points - literally 1/4" steel plate. Mind you, wiring the indicators to the towbar drove us nuts due to the US habit of using brake lights as indicators by earthing them out, I recall we had to splice into the dashboard repeaters.

It towed a sportsboat I had - so torquey you never knew it was there.

Bit of a sod when it came to width barriers though, it was 7' wide. Parking was fun too, it was 20' long...

It still seems to be about according to the DVLA, although it's changed colour to black.

Ah, happy days!

The neighbours loved us - my old (just resprayed) Rover 2000 parked outside (mine at 19), my brothers Escort estate and just visible the rear of my fathers Granada 2.3. There were 2 bikes in the garage too...

My dad still owns his first car that he bought in his teens, it's a corker built in the 20's, goes like a rocket.

We are currently restoring her and trying to work out a way that I can actually fit in it and drive it. Can't wait. I'll have 2 roadsters then :D

:worthless::D

Well managed to find some pics of the car Dad had when he was 20, still got it and hopefully will be back on the road this year.

I always thought the zed was nice and loud but shes tame compared to this one, hope you like. Shes had a busy life, here are some pics of her racing and hill climbing. Shes been through a few colour changes too.

Wonder if our zeds will still be on the road in 80 years + time like this one

Last one is Dad on a charity run

I traded in my lightly modded Saxo VTR for a Lexus IS200. My intro to RWD. :)

Oh, I moved to Siberia when I was 20 too so spent most of my time running about in Hi Lux and L200 pick ups and land cruisers... and being driven in MANY Soviet machines!:lol:

Mkiv escort 1.4 GL - someone had tinted the windows really badly and not cleaned the windows first, they were all watermarked and by the time I had it 6 months it was pretty much all peeled off lol was always getting broken into

Last time I saw it, it was towed of the end of my road by the new owner. From what I heard after that an RS turbo lump had been put in and the rear doors sealed up, not surprisingly according to the DVLA she no longer exists lol

I then had a Mkv upgrade escort 1.8 SI which I loved to bits although had the dreaded Ford Rust Disease, had her 3 years and then part ex'd her, accordingly to the DVLA she not longer exists either (although not surprised, engine was mint and low mileage but body work was bad when I sold it) lol

No piccies of these though :(

I am having a bit of a guess but I think it might have been my old Fiesta 1.4s - probably my second favourite car ever owned. Rusting to pieces (so its lighter and hence faster), bits missing from the engine (making it more efficient and again lighter) and generally just about hanging together by the paintwork, I daren't clean it. Went like a bullet though! :drive1

My 1st car - still had it when I was 20 was. . . .Morris 1000 Traveller.

Of course, when I was 20 it was 1976. . . .so I guess that's a bit before most of you guys time. :wheelchair:

So - how come an old guy is on the 350Z forum. . . got divorced 18 months ago. Sold the Volvo. BOUGHT THE ZED ! !:thumbs:

Yes, it's a mid-life crisis, but, on balance - no wife, no Volvo, now enjoying the Zed, I think I'm ahead on the deal.
