Oh! and the LS-1 weighs in at 430lbs, the VQ35DE comes in at 329lbs so not a vast difference.

not a vast difference, its a quarter lighter!!!

In the overall scheme of an engine swap the extra 100lbs probably equates to carrying a passenger all the time, as the weight of the engine is pretty far back, so with suitable springs/dampers on the front and a decent corner weight setup i cant see a big problem.

you try and shed 100lb elsewhere in the zed. You will struggle. if it doesn't make any difference why not have passengers in all racing cars.

Why not indeed!

But then who was talking about racing cars? :headhurt:

I thought we where talking about weight distribution, and the difference the extra 100lbs would make to that, if its power to weight, then i think the extra 100 odd BHP and the more important 200 odd ft lb of torque would more than make up for it ;)

it equates to the same thing, power to weight ratio. I explained the racing car angle for you to try and simply understand. Clearly you haven't. :bangin:

Sorry but it doesn't, as i said i was actually talking about weight distribution initially, and not power to weight, that came in later.

You really do like to be seen as being right don't you, well never mind I'll butt out, you just carry on .

you mentioned the weight of the engine not me. Weight goes hand in hand with power - this is where the term power to weight ratio comes from ;)

Nothing about who is right but the correct information being posted to prevent confusion and misguidance in the future

I would not do it to be honest, what would the mpg be in that thing ???

go SC if you want 400hp and if you want to go way over that a TT setup with forged internals.. you could even do it in steps, SC first and TT later... might have to do that myself...

Who cares what the mpg would be? Not everyone likes boosted cars & also something like this would be very unique, especially in the UK.

Also the cost of it won't be a lot more than doing a supercharger properly & a hell of a lot less than a TT setup - combine that with the fact that the LS block will handle boost better than a stock VQ & I know which one I would prefer ;)

I'm still waiting to for someone to pull the trigger on a RB26/30 converision :teeth:

Was just wondering what the mpg would be... you're mentioning cost not me... so total cost of ownership would need to involve mpg either way... anyway... i wouldn't care.. but jap car meets us engine... :yuck: some of the rb26s been done, not sure I'd go down that route either... all to their own I suppose...

SC or TT .... all the way...

25% increase upfront makes a big difference on the near on 50/50 weight distribution.

Loads of info on Noahs swap on my350z and the pitfalls. Think its either sold or is still up for sale so as he didnt keep it cant have been that good!

I also understand that the nissan v8 is an easier and more reliable swap.

Personally 500ps from a HKS S/C is enough for the car! Reliable and cost effective... Then use the rest to uprate the rest of the car (bbk, suspension etc etc!)

But is the 500ps blower available yet?

An engine transplant would also be arguably more reliable than an FI setup as there's less bits to go wrong, especially with the LS swaps as all the electrics (the main change) are pretty much done for you. Comparing it with a TT setup really is missing the point as you've got completely different power deliveries, and in that sense it's far closer to an SC kit although with less moving bits and a better noise (IMHO).

Given the relative cost of doing all conversions is more or less equal, the only major downside to the LS swap over the other two is that it's a hell of a lot more ballache to go back to stock when it's time to sell. You could sell the car as is of course, but you can write off most of your invested capital if that's the case unless you get the right buyer.

Have you considered a stroker kit?

Don't know all that much about them on the 350z engine, but you can get 4.2 kits for a relatively low price. Benefits being i's reliable, and a fairly straight forward install compared to fitting a V8, plus no extra weight gains. Beleive you can get around 370+bhp out of them...

its pretty expensive to do though, I'd say around 10k all in for (euro) for work like that to get her up to 4.2, think you can squeeeze more then 370 outta her though.

Whilst the LS2 sounds promising, weight distribution is something to think about.

I'd prefer to go down the stroker route rather than FI. Whilst the costs might be similar, NA would be more rewarding for me.

been looking at that kit too... want to take the plunge?

Hi, I have been specialising with LS engine conversions for many years, I have recently and still am working with www.gamamotorsport.com. Check out their websites. I have worked with many different powertrain conversions and am involved in every aspect of the modification from electrics to the exhaust system. I have the attitude anythings possible. My conversions are totally professional and very reasonable so if you are in consideration and have a budget to keep to send me an email.

  • 2 years later...

Morning all...I've been dodging coming on here for a bit but recent trips to youtube looking at various LS2 zeds in the states led me to a few google searches which led me right back here to this thread.

Does anyone know know if anything ever came of the OP? did he go ahead with the coversion?....infact, has anyone gone ahead and done the LS2 conversion on their zed?

I'd be very interested to know the costs involved, if i was to go ahead with something like this due to my lack of mechanical knowledge and even less available time it would have be a case of dropping of the keys somewhere and picking it back up when all the work was done, expensive but as a mechanical div i wouldn't have much choice, I'm curious about the pit falls too.

Cheers.
