New to...... well everything actually.

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone.

Well, firstly my name is Sam, im 23 and im from the cambridgeshire area. I have recently purchased an 04 black 350z, I had no intention of buying one and have never really been a car nut. (my previous car being a 1.1 citroen saxo....) But my friend who owns an 08 Astra VXR and is a self-confessed petrolhead put me onto one and i thought i was too good a deal to turn down.

So, with no knowledge of the 350z and what can be done to it, i decided to join a forum, which, is also a first for me!! sad fact i know.

So this is basically a heads up to you all to expect some very silly and im sure unbearably simple questions regarding both the car, and the site in general....

As an aside, the car is very scary for me to drive, having no experience other than my 1997 citroen with what now feels like must have been 3bhp. Its a bit of an animal, plus its 4 times as wide and 5 times as long... i drove it to work for the first time and struggled to park in in our carpark. Embarrassing.

Oh, and i'm sure you'll want pictures, so as soon as i have read a guide on how to upload them, they'll be with you :D

Sam.

:welcome: to the forum Sam. That is a big step up from a Saxo :surrender:

So my advice is take it very easy with it at first. This is a rear wheel drive car so be careful in the wet. Though on saying this the car i find is quite forgiving.

So be careful and dont try to be an hero withyour mates VXR just take your time and learn the car. ;)

:welcome: Sam

Theres plenty you can do to the car. From a performance perspective, the thing that most dissapoints new owners is that there isnt a lot of extra power to be had from the engine without serious money - into the thousands - but that doesnt sound like it will be a problem for you as it already has more than enough power for now :) On the handling front there are the usual mods, suspension, anti-roll bars, better brake kits. For now I'd get used to the standard kit and see how you get on. On the noise front there is plenty to do again, new exhausts and intakes, again that will come in time. Styling wise, well whatever you like really! With all these things, have a search around the forum and you will find a wealth of information.

For photos, upload them to photobucket (its free) and post the links it generates on here

Enjoy the car :drive1

Top mate you have there, buy him a present!

This is a lot of peoples first car forum, including me. It's very friendly and jusy ask if you need anything (try search first though! ;) )

Was my first proper fast car too, you get used to it. Won't have the same turning circle though, and never mind the rear visability!

Photobucket is your friend :)

:welcome: buddy!

Loads of info to be found on here. If you're worried about sounding like a pratt, dont! Just ask!

All we ask is that you use the search function first or have a look at the FAQ section.

Tread carefully for a few weeks and build up your ability with the Zed, and you'll never lose the smile of your face!

Wow, thanks for the responses. Can't remember who asked but my insurance isnt to bad althougth my previous insurer, Norwich Union, who i had been with for 6 years, wouldnt insure me on it. So i went with Admiral and it came out at 78 quid a month, fully comp. Which, considering the car, i didnt think was too bad !!

For insurance, in future i recommend going through a specialist broker.

Sky INsurance and Chris Knott both offer forum discount, and specialise in performance cars

Yup I will be trying them next time, but I have found that Admiral are very competitive with multicar and for some reason seem to like young blokes with fast cars as they've always been the best price for me!

Hi Sam, welcome to the forum. It was my first car forum too and although I am a self confessed petrolhead, I know nothing about the mechanics of cars.

Best time to buy now all the snow has gone, so enjoy yourself and be careful. I'm still a bit reserved going around corners but I more then make up for it on the straights! :headhurt:

As mentioned above, photobucket really is good......and its free.

First of :welcome: second thing, congratulations on the new car. You'll love it.

I had a saxo a few years ago..... 8 actually :scare: It was a VTR. I liked that car.

As others have said photobucket is good and easy to use.

Do you plan to modify the car at all?

The fuel bills will be scary compared to the old 1.1 Saxo!

Word of warning......It can get a bit strange on here at times (not naming names) but its all good natured banter

Welcome Sam :welcome: I can identify a little - unlike you, I've always been into cars, but the Z is my first real performance car (my last two cars having been a Civic and a Mini Cooper S) and I'm still apprehensive at times, it still feels massive when driving and parking, but you'll get used to it

That's what a forum is for - to share knowledge, so I wouldn't worry about asking silly questions, and the search button is a very handy tool

Says Nurrish with his GTR humping avatar

I think he meant himself ;)

Yup, you sure do. Everything else you go back to drive just feels slow and unresponsive! Never quite get used to the parking though, cant chuck it in spaces like my old cars. Think I need some parking sensors and reverse park it everywhere
