Chris`I Posted February 10, 2009 Share Posted February 10, 2009 ** All resolved now - see page 2 for pics ** As you guys know, I got reversed into and the lady damanged the rear bumper. I got it all sorted now, but having finally had the weather and light to inspect the job, the colour match looks good but the orange peel to me looks terrible. Not sure what I can do about it? Beavis suggested I may be able to get it buffed out, but from what I've seen on DW it might need a wet sand or even a respray. Anyway, heres the damage (excuse the pun), what do you think, should I accept it or demand it be put right? Also seems to be what I can best describe as grazing on the right hand part? Obviously the bumper is the newly painted bit, wheel arch is original. You can see the distinct difference in the reflection of the neighbours car between the 2 panels. manc350z Posted February 10, 2009 Share Posted February 10, 2009 I had to have my rear bumper resprayed twice after it got damaged at a dealers... first repaid looked like Stevie Wonder had spat the paint on it .. bad match, too much paint in some areas making it look like it had black circles in the paint.. really poor job.. the dealer had spotted it when it was done and waitied for me to reject it.. and then said i was going to reject it anyway.... My first attempt had jaffa peel galore... made yours looke acceptable.. The second job was good and smooth but not 100% taken on the colour match.. gave up in the end figured it was close enough. My opinion... that orange peel is way to evident... reject, acknowledge colour match looks good though but demand it to be done again but this time by someone that can move a spray gun quick enough and at the right distance from the subject.... It depends how much paint they put on but chances are the best solution will be to get it wet sanded and then polished up. matth76 Posted February 15, 2009 Share Posted February 15, 2009 I've got pretty noticable "orange peel" around my rear number plate, not anywhere else, just on the indented area surrounding the number plate. I ducked out of work at lunch to go and see the paint guy, and he was very helpful, and managed to flat and polish the bumper there and then! Took him all in about an hour and he had to swap out the car he was working on to fit me in. Very impressed with his work, looks spot on as you can see below. Its now better than the OEM Nissan paint! Need to ask him how much to do the whole car Sorry the weather and light is a bit crap, picture doesnt do it justice.
