M13KYF Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Feast your eyes on BMW’s all-new sports car: the Z4. Due to go on sale at the end of next year, the Porsche Boxster rival is being given a fresh look, with a bulging bonnet hump, larger twin kidney grilles and wide stance. The original ‘flame surfacing’ styling, pioneered by former BMW design chief Chris Bangle, is still present, but it’s been toned down with a simpler, more athletic shape. And the newcomer has a big trick up its sleeve: a folding metal roof. This retractable steel top will be similar in design to that on the company’s latest 3-Series Convertible, and will be offered alongside a traditional soft-top model. The Z4 will also feature a new range of powerful engines, including a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six. There’s also the possibility of diesel power – which would be a first for the range. A flagship M model could get the new 4.0-litre V8 from the M3 – although most versions will still be sold with four-cylinder and normally aspirated six-cylinder petrol powerplants. BMW’s new seven-speed SMG DCT twin-clutch transmission will also be available in the roadster for the first time. All models will benefit from the manufacturer’s Efficient Dynamics programme, which uses stop/start technology to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. Under the skin, the platform is shared with the latest 3-Series, so the rear-wheel-drive Z4 will continue to offer sharp handling. article taken from autoexpress http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoe ... _fold.html Quote
mbs Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Very very nice, much better than the current styling. Quote
Rob_Quads Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Very nice - interesting lines all over including the roof. Quote
Andy Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Very impressive car. Believe they are releasing a 3.0 Twin Turbo Straight Six as well......serious weapon!! Quote
Ekona Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 That's fantastic. If they can make it drive well, and be available in something other than grey, silver or black (yellow would be nice), then I think I may have found my next car after the Zed. Quote
mwalker56 Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I'm not too sure about it, something doesn't look right... maybe the proportions of the headlights? Quote
marzman Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Love it. Apart from the wider kidney grills. Makes it look a bit like a 6-series. Quote
martinmac Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Not normally one to buck the trend but I hate it, especially the front. Mechanics sound very good though. Quote
mwalker56 Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 ...and the sanitary towels stuck on the wing mirrors. Quote
Chris`I Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 ...and the sanitary towels stuck on the wing mirrors. I hadnt even notice that Quote
Ian Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Not normally one to buck the trend but I hate it, especially the front. Mechanics sound very good though. +1 Thats Quote
bronzee Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I quite like the look of it, it's not particularly modern looking though. I've not been a fan of any of the previous models, all too hairdresser looking for my taste. ...and the sanitary towels stuck on the wing mirrors. They kind of are, aren't they. But quite a practical level to have your indicators at though, in line of normal sight, instead of being down low, which is silly, an not so visable. Also makes for very expensive replacment, if one gets munched. Better offset than a stock 350, even if the photo is chopped. Quote
Kev946 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Not much of an advancement on the old model and I agree it's an artist impression, otherwise why no rear view. Quote
tmJak Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Met someone at a BBQ who's just spent nearly 30k on one on the never never. I was discussing with him how important it is to have the lastest BMW model. . .he was quite materialistic. Bet he's gonna be devo'd Quote
bronzee Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Have you lot lost your marbles?? It's fugly!! I'd need marbles to loose to start with. Quote
GC350z Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I think somebody’s having a laugh. I’ve found another pic which shows the rear and is reportedly the hardtop folding roof new Z4 but this pic and the one posted by Mike are not the same. The lines are not the same and dimensions look completely different. Quote
IanS Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Always liked the proportions of the Z4, and both new photos look pretty cool. Except in Mike's photo I think the grill/headlight sizes are all wrong. As folk have said, could just be a photoshop. Any of the fast 3 series engines in it will be awesome though. One thing is for sure....it wont be cheap! Quote
