370Z Nismo - Thinking about it but what do I need to know?

Hello again!

I'm tempted with the purchase of a 370Z Nismo. I'm also really lazy so please can someone tell me what I should be looking out for without me needing to use the search button? :-)

What are the differences between the 2013-14 models and the 2016-ish years? I can see a few cosmetic differences but what else changed?

I appreciate any advice and this being 350z-uk.com, I anticipate some abuse too.

Thanks

AndySpak

PS - Will I need to buy some spacers and a stubby?

The seats in the MK2 are worth it.

However the MK1 had better wheels and nicer wing - IMO.

Go to your local dealer, and I dare you to not buy one after hooning it - me and my better half got a 2 hour test drive in one - Needless to say, do not buy the red pre owned one from Bournemouth - I drove it hard, and it was more rewarding the more you pushed it. Unlike the Revup 350 I have now, it liked revving ( ironic right? ) Just pulled for days, and smoothly.

I never drove the MK1 Nismo unfortunately.

Now someone else will come along and tell you properly what the differences are. I just know it was bloody fun and felt rapid.

The suspension, that's all. Check it on Wiki compared to a GT. (PS, I've owned both)

Edit: tracking, wheel base, remap, extra torque, extra BHP, GTR brake lines, much desired body kit (check out the owners who've fitted the Nismo kit to a gt), and Mk1, non leather, track friendly seats.

Plus the extra strut brace strengthening.

And no need to fit Nismo badges, they come as standard ;)

Plus, post #87 if your considering buying or modifying any new purchase on a Mk1 http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/105638-stang-thread/page__st__80

PM me if you require any further info ;)

Stating the obvious, the aesthetics are a matter of personal opinion. I much prefer the Mk1, but the majority seem to prefer the facelift.

Drive wise, I doubt there's a noticeable difference from the very minor suspension tweaks to the later model.

Engine - identical.

Exhaust - identical (too quiet).

Interior - slight changes to some of the plastic colours on the Mk2 and much nicer seats.

Parts for the Mk1 seem to be more expensive e.g. Nissan quote for rear bumper - Mk1 - £1,200 + VAT. Mk2 - £369 + VAT.

Price wise the older model seems to be holding its value fairly well so you won't save a fortune by going for it over the Mk2.

Both are rare on the road. I've never seen another Nismo. The Mk1 will be rarer due to its short production run.

For all its deficiencies in the eyes of some and negative comparisons to German rivals I'd absolutely recommend one - either version. Puts a huge smile on my face every time I look at mine and every time I drive it. :)

Hope that helps.

+1 on this.

I gave their red demo a battering on my test drive in October. My OH works there so we got an extended test drive :D

It sounds really good as you press on with wide open throttle. I'm yet to experience that with my actual Nismo MKII as it's only done 400 miles so far :/

Other differences aside from the detuned suspension are that the MkII has lower NVH with active sound neutralisers, wheel arch liners and softer engine mounts. The aero is more balanced than the MkI and generates another 5-10kg of DF. Despite the nicer interior with darker plastic and recaros, everyone complains about how uncomfortable they are. However the car just looks like a mess, none of the Nismo design language from the homologation specials like the 380z RS or 370z RC. And once you've ripped the ghey exhaust off and put some hi-flow cats on you wont give a monkeys about the nvh!

^^the man's not lying!

Still trying to dial in my seating position. Had a 3 hour drive last weekend in the new MKII, had to stop halfway and stretch my legs

You lot must be weird shapes or just old ;)

In my test drive I got in, barely adjusted it, and loved them. So much so I've made my 350 seats almost upright now to mimic the recaros.

Well I am old and sat in a new nismo today while my own car was being serviced and loved the fit of the Recaros, think I might miss the heated ones for my lumbago though

Got a test drive booked today in the used red one that Bishop's in Guildford have in stock. I've got to be honest, the jury is out on the colour but I'll reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh. I don't mind red so much but from the pics, it looks like the trim red on the bumpers and side skirts look like a different colour???

Anyway, I will post back my opinions later. Thanks for sharing the info and advice, it's been very useful.

Well I have to say, this afternoon was one of the most disappointing experiences I have ever had with a car dealer.

Firstly, they lost our appointment details, they weren't expecting us and told us that we can look at the car but we can't drive it. I explained how that wasn't really a solution to the problem and after a bit of awkwardness, they figured out a way to make it happen.

As described in an earlier post, we are currently looking to buy a car for my wife so it was her who I asked the sales guy to go out with, explaining that if she liked it, I would drive it before we made a decision. So off she went...

She started it up with me stood at the back and as you can imagine, I was greeted with the disappointing sound of near silence from the exhausts. Anyway, I was expecting that so that wasn't too bad. When my wife returned from the test drive and I asked her about the car, she said "I have no idea what it's like, I was in traffic the whole time and he wouldn't let me take it anywhere to drive it properly (my wife is a petrolhead, not a sissy driver). She explained to the salesman on the way round that she wanted to take it through the revs and test the handling a bit and his reponse was "Nissan's insurance doesn't cover extreme driving" (FFS!). So I decided not to waste anymore time and we came away empty handed and thoroughly disappointed with the dealership.

We will continue to look for one before deciding if it's the car for us or not. In the flesh, the red does look good but it's not a colour we will choose purely because of the weird mismatch of the Nismo accents. White, Black or Silver are all on cards í ½í±í ¼í¿»

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Nissan Guildford are a bunch of idiots.

If you live close to the area try Nissan aldershot, it's a performance specialist and they actually know what they are doing.

Don't be put off by the exhaust. It was a big downer for me too after coming from the 350 but it's easily fixable with an aftermarket exhaust

I am never going back there. Felt like an idiot from the moment I walked in to the dealership. Couldn't wait to leave!

I live near Ascot so Aldershot is not too far. I will keep an eye on their stock list. Thanks

Ive seen this with a few dealers recently, they are only allowed to go down "approved" test drive routes which quite often are full of traffic and give no opportunity to actually drive the car.

The Alfa salesman I went out with the other day couldnt be more apologetic but it is a bit ridiculous asking people to drop 10's of thousands on a 15 minute drive where you didnt get out of 3rd gear. They did say that they would probably be able to sort something a bit more involving but I get the impression that a deposit might be needed first :(

Funnily enough my experience with Nissan couldnt be more different, I very nearly got a perfect darts score testing the GTR and had the back of the 370 sliding all over the place, quick complaint letter to Nissan UK and try another garage for sure :)

Indeed crap dealers dont deserve your business , I bought my 370z from Kettering, 80 miles away from me the salesman wasn't even phased when the rear stepped out a little on the test drive, I also test drove a GTR at Westover in Bournemouth and they were also excellent , would certainly buy from them. Not heard anything good about Nissan Aldershot personally but never tried them myself

Although some distance from you, when I bought my nismo with Alex f noble in Edinburgh it was probably the best test drive I've been on. We were out for just over an hour giving a true reflection of what the car is capable of.

I can agree with this, bought my 370gt edition at this dealer, and can only praise their level of service.
