Left hand drive - How bad is it really?

I've always loved the old Camaro's - mainly the 67 and 68... but not the 69 - Square wheel arches - yuk!

Wanted one before my Zed, figured it would be a fun never ending project, with a similar cost to start with, but decided it wouldn't be practical due to budget reasons.

I mean why buy a car for £10k when you still need to repair all the rust, repaint, upgrade EVERYTHING - Tyres wheels brakes engine gearbox just to name a few!

Anyways, after watching more videos on youtube, Life on Unleaded did a christmas tree video with a mustang in the UK ( older one LHD )

AAAAAND I want one again. The V8 sound is just sex. The style is so timeless, and it's so special.

Has anyone lived with a LHD car in the UK? I don't see parkcades being an issue, I barely use them, so grabbing a ticket out the machine will be fine. - Don't use drivethroughs cause I'm too fussy with ordering in the first place... and they're all too small as it is.

ANYWAYS.

What you guys think? On the plus side, they are cheaper to insure and tax, as they are classics. However a modded one running 450 BHP with barely anything stock... Maybe not.

I've never had any issues with RHD in France/Spain etc, so I couldn't see an issue with LHD over here.

Although any junctions that aren't 90 degrees can be tricky at time. Especially in a car with limited view through quarter windows.

It's absolutely fine. As Lexx says, Brits cope cope okay when driving in Europe, and that's a bigger adjustment as everything is backwards!

I've only ever driven the Hummer over in the U.K., but I've not had any issues not related to the size of the damn thing. The LHD aspect doesn't even factor into it when I'm driving it.

In your case, I'd be far more concerned about buying something that wasn't a rust bucket, that wasn't going to cost me a fortune to maintain, and that wasn't going to mean I'd have to wait ages for the parts to be imported. I'd also make sure I had a good specialist vaguely close by (50 mi), just in case ;)

I have had a Pontiac firebird transam, lances delta intergrale and an E30 M3 all in LHD

I found them ok...although on a daily basis the only thing that cheesed me off was the feeling of sitting in the gutter..

The natural camber of the road amplifies the feeling .

I should imagine overtaking will be the biggest drawback,

^^ That would be my biggest issue with it I think. Although how often do you actually overtake other vehicles?

Would only be an issue on single A-roads anyway.

You'd get used to everything else in no time I'm sure. If it's what you want then I'd say go for it.

To be honest, I am a bit sceptical, other cars seem to go for the $20k range.

I mean lets be honest, I don't have £10k spare to throw at a car before it's even converted to UK road standards, let alone needing repairs etc.

Just tugging away at those heart strings hahaha

Found a good clean shell ( no engine or trans, or even paint ) for $7500 hahaha more in budget, just a tad useless ;)

Late to the party, but I've had no issues driving a late 68 Chevy truck over here in regard to it being left hand drive. My main issues are:

1) You can never "just nip to the petrol station" as everyone wants to chat about the vehicle.

2) You can never sit peacefully in traffic as above.

3) The steering boxes from the 60's aren't great, they have quite a large dead zone BUT you can very easily upgrade to a new rebuilt one which will be way more precise.

4) LOTS of questions about how many dead bodies you can get in the back

5) LOTS of questions about the MPG

6) LOTS of comments about growing a mullet

7) LOTS of comments about being scared of corners...

Basically, other people thinking they're original and funny  the first two are pretty cool problems to have, the third is an easy fix if it bothers you, the rest are minor.
