Anyone Used Terraclean?

A previous owner of a previous car I owned had Terracleaned the car and it ran very well! Can't compare to before the clean though.

Ed China got very good results on an old Jag, improving emissions, but he is their ambassador; not sure whether he was when he did the Jag?

£150 seems reasonable!

This stuff is popular and costs a lot less than £150. Cleaning additives or not there's always a load of gunk in the throttle body on mine, at this price it's worth doing as it does look a lot cleaner after, and that's just the bits I can see.

True but when that comes in a can and the Terraclean is a specialist machine on a trolley then I think there could be some difference. Tempted to be the forum guinea pig.

I'd be interested to know if this works, my other halfs diesel x-trail has done about 85k miles and I've been wondering if it's worth getting it terracleaned.

I can't decide if it's just a gimmic. If somebody gives it a go first and reports back that would be great 😉

Be good to get a dyno before doing it. Rules out placebo effects.

One of the lads at work has had his a3 tdi terracleaned and said he saw some but little improvements, but at our garage we have a fortron injector max machine which from customers comments they really saw a difference in response and mpg went up. One of our customers had a 63 plate diesel BMW that was down on power all the time and often would cut out on him which had a terraclean previously and didn't sorted the issue. After having our fortron injector max service it was back to how it was when it was new he couldn't believe the results and it was cheaper than terraclean too.

Don't forget there are 2 states.

Inlet clean

Exhaust clean.

Ideally you need both.

Having taken many diesel Inlet manifolds off I'd have to say for the longevity of your engine it sounds very worth it.

That said Rich from HDEV has a pretty low opinion of it if memory serves but I can't remember why (maybe something to do with perishing seals).

I'm no longer Rich from H-Dev just Rich :) , but i havent seen any evidence of it working particularly effectively on cars that have always been run on premium fuel .

Quite a few people from another forum i frequent had issues after having their cars treated. The Wheeler Dealers show is hardly impartial either, so in summary i am not convinced enough of the benefits to risk it personally

I've had it done and can't say my car has suffered any ill effects and the engine did feel smoother for it. I got it done prior to having her remapped and decatted. I just wanted everything just so before going to Chris at Dynatune.

Have to say a fair bit of crud came out the exhaust when it was getting done and my car has pretty much been enthusiast owned and looked after for its lifetime. It was a new exhaust which had been put on just over a year when I got the terraclean done so in my opinion it's a good thing to get done.

I paid a local guy to do mine and it was £112.00.

Ah that sounds like it's worth more research then!

Bob- got any more info on that fortron injector max malarkey?

The fortron service cleans the fuel lines, the fuel rail (if fitted) and cleans the injectors spray pattern which over time can be restricted by any build up/deposits. It also cleans inside the cylinder of any deposits and cleans the exhaust out at the same time and you can see the proof coming out of the exhaust.

I wouldn't to taking what comes out of an exhaust as evidence of anything other than a liquid coming out of it.

I know that something coming out of the exhaust isn't definitive proof. We know it works and our customers have seen and felt the results for them selves and with the amount of injector max services we have carried out and only hear good feedback from our customers it's fair to say it does work. I'm not saying get this done instead of terraclean I'm just trying to let people know what else there is out there and there's proof that it does work and it gives another option for people to think about and make their own minds up.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, just that you could run water through an exhaust and it come out black, so that isn't really proof of anything.

Are there any articles/studies/tests done that I can view that show this stuff actually works in a petrol car?

Worked wonders on my old high mileage (185,000 miles at that point) Mercedes C240 V6 petrol engine, improving idle, smoothness, throttle response and mpg.

Prior to this any hope of kick down working under acceleration required the throttle pedal being flat on the floor.

After the clean it drove like new again.

  • 2 months later...

After a years ownership, I treated my car to a full service and all oil/ fluids changed, plus new spark plugs and a 2 stage Terraclean.

The 2 stage process involves additional cleaning via the intake to clean the MAF sensor, throttle body and plenum chamber, above the normal process which feeds in through the injectors.

Did it make a difference?

Two things were immediately noticeable on the first drive afterwards:

1) The exhaust was a lot louder

Presumption here - the Cats had been cleaned out by the process?

I had fitted an Invidia exhaust, as I could not hear the original JDM exhaust over the tyre noise.

Yep, I can hear it now!
:)

2) Tick-over was up to about 1000rpm

Presumption here - the injectors had been cleaned and were delivering more fuel?

A pedal dance to run the idle learning process sorted that out.

Any other effects are only subtle, and not like night and day when I had this done on the Old Merc.

Question - is it worth performing a full ECU reset, or will the ECU gradually adapt?

  • 3 weeks later...

I had my 2.0TDI Seat Toledo done about two weeks after I bought it.

The car felt vastly different than before, Definitely more pickup and certainly smoother running at idle.

I was very happy with what I got, However this is a Diesel Toledo thats probably been run on the cheapest fuels for its entire life.
