R35 v Ferrari 458 Challenge Knockhill

Great fun at Knockhill yesterday.

It was a SIDC 4 hour open pit lane event and the rain stayed off for the full 4 hours.

There was a superb turn out of cars and NOT one red flag the whole day which exemplifies the very high standard of driving on the day.

Bumped into Ewen and Rich from CMS who were having there own personal duel out on track and the smiles on there coupons said it all.

My highlight had to be the "race" that I had with the Ferrari 458 Challenge.

We were locking horns for 8 very hard laps (sub57s) and he just never got quite close enough for an overtaking manoeuvre.

The 458 had the slight edge on the curves but the AWD of the 35 just pulled me out the corners and the 35 was also faster on the straights.

Used 2 x tanks of fuel and did 120 laps.

Is that not what the Easter Weekend is all about.

And then a final attempt to try and get the edge over the old Datson.

Sounds like you had a brilliant day. Nice one.

Track days are crap if you don't come across someone closely matched. A good battle over the "gap" is what it's all about. Especially if you edge it :)

120 laps? That's a serious amount of caffeine ...

How were the brakes? Did you have to do a pad swap?

Brakes were all good with no pad or fluid fade, as upgraded.

AP J Hooks

Carbotech pads, XP12 fronts and XP10 rears.

Goodridge Lines

Castrol React SRF Racing Fluid.

Not endurance, so no pad swop required as quite easy to manage the brakes, tyres and other fluids.

Circa 15 laps with a warm up and cool down, then 15mins in the paddock, so over a 4 hour period circa 120 laps.

Worth mentioning that this car as being the Track Edition has the added benefit of front and rear brake ducting installed from the factory.

Is the 458 driver a regular at Knockhill - if not I bet he was a bit peed off a Datsun driven by an old git got the better of him

Certainly a better way to spend Easter than clearing up after Katie darn sarf

Yes, seen him there quite a few times with his pit crew, has all the gear, HANS etc

I was up for half an hour but it was bloody freezing :surrender:

Hope its dry monday :)

You will have to harden up Dougie if you are to become a regular tracker at Knockhill.

It was a bit on the cool side as it was difficult to get good heat into the tyres.

See you Monday: drivingskid.gif drivingskid.gif drivingskid.gif
