  1. Not trying to be funny, but what did you expect? That's what salespeople do, that's what they've always done and that's what they'll do until the end of time. Car insurance is the one that usually crops up on here when they quote high first of all, and then magically drop their prices once you have a better quote, but that's how business works. Granted, it sounds like the bloke may have been a bit more abrupt that a good salesman should be, but in terms of his tactics he's done exactly the right thing. Quote a little high hoping you've got a sucker, then drop to under the lowest quote if you can but give a deadline so that the customer feels like they should go for it now, and hope you don't get booted out of the door. You did the right thing booting, I'd have done the same. Don't take it personally, the guy is probably under some very tight sales targets and this is how his company wants him to sell. He knows that if he leaves then he won't get the commission as it'll go back into the pot and the next guy out may well get it, so why bother leaving a card? It's a crappy way of doing things, I know, but it's how the world works and none of us should be surprised by that. The companies that don't do that and actually offer their best price in the first place in a pleasant manner are the ones that get the repeat business, but usually only end up staying local. Sadly it's the guys that do do the above (or similarly harsh) tactics that get all the big money and end up at the top of the pile, but they're still considered cnuts by the majority of the public. See Ryanair, Tesco et al. It's a crap world, but unfortunately it's just how it works. I'm with Rich, I would never have considered ringing them in the first place.
  2. You won't get super in the highliands, full stop. I'm glad I took plenty of OB with me when I went, you'll want a bottle per fillup. That route will be awesome, although I'd suggest dropping down through the Cairngorms if you have the time instead of coming straight down from Inverness (towards N on your map), it's a far more exciting drive and coming over the mountains is incredible. I'll dig out my TT files for you that I used on my LeJog trip a couple of years ago if you like?

Drive one first. Mate of mine nearly bought one as it was his dream car, but it felt slow and ungainly compared to what he was expecting. Granted, it was a Verdi car so probably best he didn't buy from them in the end anyway, but even so... The interior seems to wear very badly unless a fortune has been spent on it, although that's offset by the relatively cheap servicing and decent mechanicals of them. No doubt they're pretty and make a sonorous noise, however as a driving experience I'd be driving a few of them first,
  4. Is that 4mm on the inside, bearing in mind it wears quicker there?
  5. They'll be fine, unless you're planning on doing a few trackdays too.
  6. I used to carry one, until I realised it was utterly pointless. A tiny extinguisher is going to do chuff all on anything other than the tiniest little thing which you could probably put out by blowing at it, never mind your risk time to actually getting it out of the holder, popping it open and using it after having removed yourself from the car. Really only a fully plumbed in system is going to do anything, and that's really not practical to have installed in a road car. Get yourself out and get well away, I'd rather lose my car than lose my life.
  7. Didn't we do one of these the other week? Yup, have a look here for other ideas
  8. Great stuff, thanks Seems your max speed was the same as mine give or take, kinda what I expected.
  9. Ah, Spa in the snow, I now know it well! You used a different pit entry/exit than I did (endurance instead of F1 I think), any reason why? What did you think of the track as a whole? And if you noticed, just wondering what your max speed before braking was on the Kemmel straight? Trying to get an idea of how how our Impreza might compare with a sorted Zed 'tis all
  10. Lol looks like me and Paddy read it the same way
  11. I read the second one as semen Get the first one but get a different first two digits, that way she can transfer it to her next car without looking foolish if it's not another V6
  12. Click the 'Toggle Editing' button (the very first icon on the bar, looks like a little grey lightswitch).
  13. I had no idea you lent your car out, Dave.
  14. Fancy a giggle? Watch me panic when the bonnet pops open! NSFW due to language
  15. I hate dogdy vavles. Hobbirle things.
  16. Ouch, that mint green one looks expensive. I don't wish bad luck on anyone, regardless of what they do to their car, but I doubt he'd have had an issue if he was running sensible wheels and tyres. *thump* That's me landing, after I finished jumping to conclusions.
  17. Awful news, this forum and the world as a whole will be a quieter and more rubbish place without him.
  18. I always use cruise whenever on a motorway or DC. Just makes for an easier drive.
  19. Low? Yes. It'll scrape over every single ripple in the road. Nice colour? Yes. Smooth? Not entirely sure what you mean by that, as I can definitely see some edges on the car. Simple? Yes, I agree that the person who thought those wheels and tyres do anything other than look stupid must've been. Mint? Nope, definitely not green. Can't quite tell from here whether it tastes fresh when licking it or not. Maybe the windows are though? Sam said it best. It looks ridiculous, never mind that as a car with a basic function to be able to move, it completely fails on that task. At least, without having to plan your route so that you only drive on glass, or are sitting on some bubble wrap so that your teeth aren't shaken to bits. Keyser has it spot-on with his wheel setup, it does looks and performance in equal measure
  20. That is a f*cking abortion. Well, apart from the colour. That's quite nice.
  21. Car will be fine, brakes will cope with that kind of temp change all day unless you've just done a 150mph to standstill stop just before the ford I don't go through anything that's higher than the bottom of the door.
  22. Slicks are usually only allowed as long as you have rollover protection. In the case of a coupe, it's built into the car so you'll be fine (the rule is more there for Caterhams without a cage). Personally I've never run slicks myself so can't comment too much, however depending on your track day experience I would give very serious thought before using them. Yes, you will get a hellish amount of grip with them, but as Amstrange1 says above you need to have a good understanding of how they feel and how important warming them up and cooling them down are. They will also allow you to put far more lateral load into your suspension parts as you correctly assume, and whilst I don't feel there's any particular weakpoints in the Zed's suspension that shouldn't be able to cope quite happily with that, it's just worth bearing in mind. A road car on 888s will be more than quick enough to be fun at Oulton, and even doing it on ditchfinders will be fine and arguably more fun (I've got Event tyres on my MX-5, and it was hysterical there in October). I wouldn't bother putting slicks on unless it's something you really want to try. Also, it's T-Y-R-E-S.
