  1. Agreed. no iDrive would be a deal breaker. Personally if I was considering an E92 I would also consider a V8 an essential, but that's just me
  2. By who? Even Falken themselves describe the 914 as an economy tyre! The 452s have sloppy sidewalls, vague feedback, and melt as soon as you give them any stick. 453s are, by all accounts, far superior, and probably worth a punt right now seeing as how the VUS are out of production.
  3. Check the sills. Then check them again. Then again.
  4. Perfect, apart from the rust. There WILL be rust, promise! Mk1 is a better track car as it's lighter, but that's a great buy for the money. Just budget another £500 for rust repairs, just in case.
  5. In that case, I'd run them down to the nearest tip and put something decent on Seriously, they're shopping trolley tyres, even the 452s which I hate would be an improvement.
  6. Hmm, I think you'd still be on shaky ground if you tried to reject the car now. That said, I would suggest that this would be the final attempt if the fault is identical, as two goes would seem to be reasonable. Are they replacing it this time?
  7. Right, so you're being deliberately provocative on the internet just to get a reaction out of people? I see. Fair enough, thanks for (finally) explaining.
  8. One way to sort that, just 'lose' it too
  9. You're really very good at evading the question. Is it that hard to answer? I've already said I don't understand why you're doing what you're doing, I would've thought that much was clear. If you don't want to answer then just say so.
  10. What Falkens? 452s will need more than the 453s, but as a rule just stick to what is in the manual and on the sticker in the door jam i.e. 35psi all round. Adjust from there to suit.
  11. No. You have the right to insist they repair it, but that's all they're legally obliged to do at this point I would say. Is it the exact same failure? As in, the new turbo went pop too?
  12. Bite? I'm just wondering why you seem to be pretty hostile over the 370ZN, is all. So, why call people haters? I mean, if it's a big joke and you're only kidding then cool, clearly I've missed that, it just doesn't come across that way in your posts is all.
  13. Why do you refer to people who don't happen to like a car as a 'hater'?
  14. Elise, GT86/BRZ (I won't cheat and list them separately), Megane RS, M135i, and if I can stretch the haggle an A45 AMG. If I can't, then a Z4 28i could be worth a look. I might even give the current Clio RS a try, but that's a bit small to be a fair comparison I think. £35K puts you into an 18 mth old Cayman S with plenty of toys too, but then it's unfair to compare new for old so I won't start down that path either.
  15. You need to drive it more to get your money's worth then
  16. Just under a tenner a week to run a sports car. Seems like a bargain to me
  17. Do NOT track the car in the current condition. You will be pushing the car to 9/10ths, and if there is a minor problem then this can very quickly become a big problem if something lets go at high speed. You risk not only your life, but the lives of your fellow trackday goers. Now the 'non-positive' rant is out of the way, some more practical advice! If budget is your concern, and it looks like it is with only £4K to go play with, then I'd consider getting an early MX-5. Strip the car, do the brakes, add roll over protection, and most importantly if you have a bad back (previous fellow sufferer here) put a supportive bucket seat with harnesses in. That will give you a very fun little car that is no slower than a Zed for less than £2K, and if you write it off at the first day then you've only lost that much. It would be very easy to do that much damage to either a Westie or a Zed if you had a minor off, so worth considering another car from that POV. Westies are huge fun but if it's a very cold day, or if it's raining, you're really not going to have a very fun day. Something like a '5 or MR2 or even the Zed if you do decide to go that route will be far more enjoyable (and quicker) if conditions are bad. The Westie/'5/'2 will be cheap on consumables, the Zed much less so. None of the cars that have been mentioned would be a bad choice for track use, just depends on what you want out of it.

Very good point. Most German stuff gets modified mechanically not externally (wheels excluded), so if lairy bodykits are your thing then probably not a good idea either. That does my head in with 911s, as unless it's a Turbo no-one bothers trying to modify it at all, so you ask a question on a forum and it all goes quiet because no-one does anything.
