^^^This. This is the whole thing in a nutshell. If Yes had every answer to every question, then I would totally understand every Scot voting yes. As it stands, it's a gigantic shot in the dark with nothing more than "Well, at least we're not Westminster!" as the broad tagline. That just seems utterly crazy to me.

Found it on the wiki, Scotland voted 63% in favour of not using PR. That's a pretty big majority, can't see that changing any time soon.

Is that even an option any more? I've not seen any Yes material saying that they've any interest in another referendum. What did the Scots vote for last time on that?

I'd like to drive one again, to see if my original thought were correct or whether my tastes have changed.

That's democracy as a whole: That's not Westminster-specific. Cronyism is a great word, btw! Trouble is that you'll swap Westminster cronyism for Holyrood cronyism. You won't change the fact it's an awful but unavoidable part of politics across the world. I do agree that being ruled by local cronies is nicer than being ruled by further away cronies. I just think the risks far outweigh the benefits, is all.

No, that's fine. Just wanted to be clear about what we define as a majority. 'Cos really, if 39% of people vote yes, and 38% vote no, then the majority of people don't actually want independence.

There's been a lot of company directors who have come out on one side or the other, but I was looking at a list the other day and the scary thing was that all the Yes guys were ex-CEOs, and the No guys current CEOs. I wish I could find the list again, as it genuinely surprised me. I can't work out what the ex-CEOs have to gain by saying Yes.

London to York is less than Edinburgh to Thurso. The north of England complain about not being understood, so why do you think Holyrood will do any better? I don't think paying 5p for carriers or spending a fortune on electric cars is anything to shout about, but hey ho, each to their own.

Is Edinburgh not sufficiently different from the Highlands? What works in one will not work in another. That's a duff argument, you're just swapping one for another.

Is that not what Labour is for? Anti-big business? If people starting voting for their MP rather than the party, maybe things would change. Although I suspect the argument over how our financial and government systems work is far bigger than this thread could take

Why does everyone think that everyone in Westminster doesn't care about Scotland? That's a pretty big assumption to make. The same could be said of Wales, or the North, or pretty much anywhere else outside of London. Politicians tend to want to please as many people as possible, so why naff off the Scots? Actually, I'm struggling to think of anything that Westminster have done worse to Scotland than anywhere else in the UK, certainly in my lifetime at least.

I don't see how the tilt will be affected by what arm it's on. As I said, I'm going to wear mine on my right arm. I cannot see any issues I will have with doing so: This is Apple, not Nokia. Joooooiiiiin uuuuuusssss Jiiiiiiiim...

The problem with modern politics is that too many people cling on to history. There's no-one left in frontline politics now from either Thatcherism nor the Lab government from the Winter Of Discontent, yet people still hark on back to those days as if that's all there is. People move on, ideas move on, look at what you've got now not what happened then. Hell, even the current Labour lot barely resembles anything from the Blair days! People voting based on historical events is why politics doesn't work. If you think that Holyrood will get full power and suddenly everything will be rosy, think again. You will still have greed, you will still have incompetence, and you will still have major social issues that require a change in government to sort. It's why neither Con nor Lab stay in power forever, because neither system is perfect and sometimes you need a reboot.

Pfft, I made my own I don't get the LH/RH watch argument. No other watch manufacturer ever makes LH versions of their watches, and no-one moans at them.

Maybe there are no extra benefits of No, but maybe it's all negatives with Yes. Better the devil you know and all that...

Fibre will change your life. Seriously. Suddenly there is no media that you cannot stream, and it's pretty much limitless in terms of bandwidth when downloading. Okay, it's not, but it never feels hampered. I'm only on a 35Meg connection here, but that's plenty. When I move, either I'll go somewhere with fibre already or I'll look into getting a specific line installed somehow. Sadly BT have made that a little harder these days, so I may have to go onto a business contract for it, but it's not the end of the world.

I think that's a sad view of your countrymen, but I do understand your viewpoint.
