  1. Properly probably doesn't include upside down
  2. Miles are irrelevant, buy on condition. Same applies to the Z4, I'd get a 100k miler in good nick with history over a 70k one that was a bit tatty. Can you not travel a bit? I'm sure I've seen STi hatches in your budget further south.
  3. Also, we told you that you'd get bored of a diesel
  4. I would much rather have an Impreza (has to be the STi though, the WRX really isn't that interesting) than a Z4 3L. Sod the badge, it's a hugely fun car that I think looks great and won't open you up to nasty big bills like the BMW can. However, everyone is right, if you're after a mortgage then you HAVE to cut down. Why do you think I'm running an 11 year old barge instead of the 911?! Get the mortgage, get the house, then get the car. Much easier to get a good car loan with a big mortgage than a good mortgage with a big car loan*. *Big being relative, of course.

    2003 350GT

Whilst I don't like the GT-R wheels on there either, those 5 spoke ones looked cheap and nasty so you did the right thing in changing Love the little touches like the small bits you've painted inside, just enough to make a huge difference. Nice work
  6. These threads always interest me, y'know. The OP's post I completely understand. A first comment about his specific experience with nothing remotely related to costs, end of. Then like all insurance threads it descends into a load of people naming companies that gave them a great price, or ones that gave them a crap price, or ones they were with 10 years ago or ones they've only paid their money to last week. None of this is particularly helpful, despite the best intentions of the posters. Insurance has so many nuances, that it's absolutely impossible to say who is or isn't going to give a good price. Even then, you may have the cheapest premium but what about excess? Windscreen cover? Mods covered for their replacement value? Ignoring the basics like postcode, age, driving history etc all making a huge difference to the premium. Whilst there's definitely value in reporting on customer service as in this case, I've always felt that actual price discussions add very little to these things.
  7. Get him to knock £130 off, £80 for the above and £50 for your time.
  8. You can put a plate on retention instantly, via the DVLA website. Tell him to stop being a lazy ass and go do that NOW (actually, during office hours only for some bizarre reason), and the you can buy the car. He'll tell you what plates it has on, then you tax and insure on those. Don't try and do it yourself, it's going to end up being a PITA if you do. Make him do the leg work if he wants to keep the plate
  9. Yup, exactly that.
  10. Seriously?! Sod that. A dyno that attaches to the hub.
  11. Surely it would be done with hub dynos if at a show?
  12. Tell them to do it in 4th, then.
  13. I only say to change the master as when my clutch went iffy I got the slave changed, then after the first hard drive I discovered the thing was still bollocksed. Had to go back and change the master too which fixed it, but paid for the labour to bleed twice That's why I tell everyone to do both at the same time, unless you 100% cannot afford it.
  14. Agreed, get that changed and tbh I'd do the master as well, it's not really much extra work and then at least you know the system is 100%. Nice write up
  15. That's 'cos only old people want to drive the 370* *I know, the irony of me saying that as the driver of a silver BMW barge, the definitive old man's car
  16. Depends on the dyno and operator, but as a rule I'd use 4th.
  17. I wouldn't buy a 4C for a few reasons, mostly because of those lights, but because of age? Nah, sod that. That's a rubbish reason to not buy a sports car!
  18. £500 FOR A POXY INDUCTION KIT???!!! :surrender: You must be bonkers to be considering that, unless you've done everything else possible or just have a shedload of spare cash. I mean, it's a nice kit and all, but that is just silly money.
  19. Any reason you didn't just stick it to the bumper in the regular place? Could use a cut down plate, would look even better
  20. It's the slave and/or master cylinder. I bet a single Curly Wurly* on it. It's such a common fault, and I've yet to hear of the plate or bearing going on a clutch that's done 5K miles. *No more boxes, if I keep being wrong this will start getting expensive.
  21. Cayman is a superior car to the 350/370 in every aspect. But so it should be, it costs a shed load more! That said, I still bought the 350.
  22. Not even close, Mustang all the way.
  23. That wouldn't be affected by this new bit

    New wheels fitted.

I think you completely missed the point of what I wrote. 1. I wasn't questioning the size of the wheels, I was questioning the size of the tyres. When you mention package, this normally means you end up with the same size TYRES all round, which on the Zed leads to some decidedly dodgy handling traits. I wanted to make sure that you weren't putting undue risk on yourself. 2. Price has everything to do with the above point. If you spent £2000 on wheels then another £500 (likely less than that, given you wouldn't be paying for crap tyres) is peanuts into making the most of your purchase. As I said, what's the point having nice wheels if you skip off the surface and kerb them? 4 miles or 4 hundred miles a day, it matters not a jot when you have to avoid someone else being a knob. 3. My car was not bog standard, although granted it was close to that in that photo. I had extensive work carried out on the suspension, some bits under the bonnet, some ICE stuff, re-coated wheels, and bloody good tyres too. There's a thread on here where I detailed what mods I did and their effects, feel free to have a read through. 4. I have plenty of positive things to say about cars on here! People like you just choose to ignore them though. Of course you can do what you like, which is precisely why I was paying you a compliment by asking for opinions good AND bad. However, you decided to take that the wrong way and have now slithered back into the crowd of people who don't like to be told when they've made their car uglier. Now that's fine, as I've always said as long as the owner likes it that's all that matters, but don't get shirty just because you get an opinion you don't agree with. Blimey, some people really can get narky when someone's trying to both help guide them as well as paying them a compliment. Next time I shall just state they're fugly and not offer any positive points. Sheesh!
