Following on from this thread; viewtopic.php?f=13&t=60708 I recently helped Craig and his good lady secure their new home, which I was pretty pleased with considering he gave me about a month to complete the transaction before the Stamp Duty thresholds changed back Anyway, I get a knock on the door today and it's the postman with a parcel. 'Thats strange' I thought as I'd not ordered anything recently. I opened it and this was what was in it: A bottle of Famous Grouse whiskey and a £40 Gift card for M&S, from Craig and Ashley as a thank you my help I've never been bought anything by a client before (may be I need to work harder?? ) so I got a bit emotional Anyway, cheers Craig, it's much appreciated!!

I agree also, to an extent. As I mentioned earlier I don't think people want to take over the forum and undo all the good work that has taken place in the preceeding six years. But that thread serves to illustrate that there are things out there that could add value to the site, that currently don't get considered because they are not part of the team. I think it would be a good thing to allow people to feel like they could make a difference to the site. Why not just create an extra position for a mod to be elected from the members chosen by the members, if they **** it up or don't do what they said they would, kick them out. I think what you would find that if there was some sort of 'election' say every 12 months or so for one person to be added to the team then you might get four or five people who wanted to do it. Those people would know that they are going to have to win peoples votes over the 12 months so you'd probably find that they became very positive and productive members in that time by orgainising meets, helping newbies, drive outs and competitions etc etc. All of which the site and its membership would benefit from. Whats the worst that could happen? Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that.

But how many people voted out of how many people are regular users to the site? Again, I'm not trying to use that example as the be-all and end-all of my argument, but I'm sure you can see the point I'm trying to make. Just because the vocal minority may want something, that doesn't make it right for the majority and the team have to balance up every decision they make for the greater good and not just to keep the peace. Whatever way you look at it, a vote is a vote. What better way of sampling a group of people is there than an anonymous poll? If you count the votes and count how many posted on the thread you will see that more people voted than posted, meaning that the less vocal people did actually vote in this instance and the outcome was resounding. This is my point.

But the successful ones don't change things just for the sake of it, or to appease a small minority of people who want something gimmicky for the sake of it. That's not to belittle your idea in that thread Sarnie: Whilst it's not something I would use, I can appreciate that others would, it's more a case of why waste time and effort over something that can already be achieved in a different way (in a sig) without any problems? If Apple added every little thing that the vocal minority want their iDevices to do, we'd end up with an iPhone that's hideously complex and fiddly for the majority (see: Android). How about if Coke kept changing their recipe? My point is that change for the sake of change isn't always a great thing. The club is constantly evolving and expanding, and the recent tie-up with NMGB is a great example of this and is opening the club up to new opportunities. Take Facebook for example. This has become one of the biggest companies in the world over the last few years. Almost monthly, they change something on the site that EVERYONE dislikes. People set up groups to boycott FB etc etc and then lo and behold a few weeks later the dissenters pipe down and everyone realises that the changes are for the better. FB know that standing still is akin to going backwards, so they go forwards. Companies like Apple, Coca Cola, KFC or MacDonalds don't rest on their laurels, they constantly evolve their products, menu's and restaurants etc. They don't say 'It ain't broke so don't fix it' otherwise we wouldn't have stuff like the iPad which has come from the development of the iPod. All I'm suggesting is that the team be open to change to allow things that could enhance the site, to be considered. Naturally, a lot of ideas might not be great but out of 20 ideas that get veto'd, one might be brilliant. You may not of liked the 'Current status' idea but 88% of people that voted did, which is pretty resounding and illustrates that being a mod doesn't neccessarily mean your decision is automatically the best thing for the site.

They have just given you the 'Official' line. In reality you rock up to his house, phone the finance company yourself and settle the finance over the phone with a debit card and then pay the owner the difference. They couldn't possibly be seen to be suggesting this incase anything went wrong e.g once you put the phone down he clonks you over the head with a hammer and dumps you in a river whilst saying thanks for clearing his finance

I did note that quite a few of the mods thought it was at least worthy of consideration, and this is my point. If the person who came up with this or any other idea was part of the team they may have been able to get this pushed through rather than forgotten about. I 100% appreciate that everyone has a life to lead and moderating topics, approving for sale threads and generally being guardians of the site can be quite taxing I'd assume. Therefore creating, developing and implementing new ideas/additions to the site probably takes a back seat, which is understandable.

I think the mods are running scared at the thought of the monkey's running the asylum, which I don't think anyone wants or is suggesting. The old adage 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' is fine. But if you look at any successful person, company or website they are constantly evolving and embracing change along the way. No one doubts this is a great site, look at the amount of former owners that still frequent it. All I'm suggesting is that perhaps sometimes there could be people out there that could add value to the site, who might fall outside of the usual remit of what constitutes selection as a moderator.

The annoying thing about that is that the would have had to hit it pretty hard to do that damage.......and then to drive off.......

Why not just create an extra position on the mod team, to be elected by the members? I feel that the current mods are becoming defensive at the percieved threat to their positions when their doesn't need to be. I don't think anyone is talking about kicking out the majority of the team in favour of me, Ricey and Da Whip Why not allow an extra person to be elected to the team? Everyone that seriously wants the role can apply for it and could be voted in based on what they propose to bring to the table. If the person doesn't live up to their promises, then just revoke their status. No extra work for current mods or threats to their positions, but allows anyone serious enough to put their name forward to do so. I'm sure there are a lot of people on here with plenty of ideas and contacts that could help progress the site but are not given the platform. The worst that could happen is that the extra position is wasted by the electee and the current mods are proved right. I know that every moderator is a pretty intelligent person in their own right, and as a collective a great job is being done, but surely nobody can think that this site has reached it's pinnacle and can't be improved? For example, I made a suggestion a few years back to add something to the information that is shown on the left hand side of the forum underneath your username (like they do on other forums such as GTROC) , along the lines of a 'status' but was told that that was what Facebook was for and that it the site did not want to deflect away from the core 350z subject. Well, in those few years social networking has exploded and this site has a huge social content as well as the core 350 and now 370 stuff. I'm not suggesting taking the site away from it's core values, but just some times there might be people who have thoughts that could help enhance the experience. Just look at the Zed Ted thing that I think Ekona came up with, it's generated loads of interest. People may come here to find out what size tyres to fit to their Rays but its spirit of the site that keeps people coming back. It's all about evolution, not revolution.

Yeah it won't happen because the moderating staff and admin wont let it. Exactly why I posted this thread I would have done it previously, especially when I had zeds, even put my name forward for it, but I assume as I'm not a "yes man" they didn't see fit for it to happen even though I know the cars, the site and have plenty of free time on my hands which is something the mods claim to have a lack of.

Depends on the company policy and the insurance: ie When I was at Audi, we used to chuck the keys a clients and ask when would they be back with it! At Merc I would only be allowed to do this for an existing customer At Nissan very rarely would this happen at all 99% were accompanied... I find this quite odd too. Nissan sent me a flyer for a roadster so i phoned them and said I was potentially interested and would like to have one for a weekend as I'd never had a roadster and wanted to see if I could live with one. The line went quiet until he said "I'm sorry but it will be an accompany'd test drive and only up and down the dual carriageway that surrounds the dealership". I told them to forget it, I wasn't going to fork out thousands of pounds based on a 5 minute test drive on a dual carriageway. Conversely, Lambo Brum offered me a Gallardo Spyder for the weekend as long as I covered the petrol and put it on my insurance..........

incined to agree with you as im the same for roads, never thrash it etc however I DO FIND that around town the car runs smoother and less lumpy at low speeds and low revs on super, However on a cruise on the motorway i found no difference other than a reduced MPG as such I generally stick to super not for performance top end but for my own comfort and enjoyment around town rich I 100% agree. I'm not saying the zed won't run better on 97 RON, just that your engine isn't going to blow up because you run it on 95 RON either. One example of a shot piston does not make a generic car wide issue imo......

That depends on which facelift your referring to There are MY06 Azure zed's, which was the first facelift

I still don't believe the whole 'it needs to be super unleaded' thing........one failed piston does not make it an endemic issue. I agree that the zed was optimized to run on Super. I also appreciate that the car may get a slightly higher MPG and make the car more responsive. I understand that running it on 95 RON may mean that the car potentially loses a few BHP, but as I can never extend my car to 100% of it's potential on the road, whats a few lost bhp? I ran both my zeds and Gallardo on 95 RON and have not heard of either having any issue before I owned them, during or after. People propogating running their cars on 97 RON only, need to think about the vast majority of the mileage on their cars could easily have been on 95 RON and they'd be non the wiser.....so unless you gonna do it from new then what's the point?
