  1. oops i hadn't written it as clearly as i wanted, i put up to 25, but was thinknig about years of experience, i didn't go back and check it. i agree with what you say, that it should be done on experience not age. kind of tap it onto the current probation period of 2 years and limit the power to weight ratio at the same time. to be honest accidents will happen at any age but i do see alot of driving immaturity in my sixth formers. not saying it doesn't exist in older gernations, but we had a sixth former run over a year 7 student in the car park because he came in too fast round a blind corner, yet he would havew ahd to have passed the studentbefore hand so should have known he was coming. (funny one way junction/roundabout at the entrance to the car park) police were involved and he was eventually done on having bald tyres by the police as the school and parents didn't want to prosecute. my last school i watched a sixthformer come in to quick into a carpark in the wet, came to end of the car park, went to go round and instead just slid into the fence. this is why i have a specific parking space in a place in the carpark where it would be nearly impossible to hit by accident and it allows me to park away from cars so that people can't open a door into it.
  2. idots, what there refering to is not the modified scene, but young drivers. i agree that young drivers are the most dangerous on the road, (sorry young people )and young lads under 25 are most likely to have a crash. so what they need to do is not legislate mods for cars rather legislate what young people can drive. any one under 25 is going to hate me now what they need to do to reduce that statisitic is limit the engine size that young drivers can drive. i'd say nothing over 1.4 for first 3 years of driving 1.6 for following 3 years up to 1.8 following 2 years. that takes you up to 25. or say that young drivers are limited to under 100bhp till they're 25. insurance companies already do this to a point by financially raping young people on big cars, and try and price you off your decision. prime example is one of my sixth formers just got a clio 182 and his insurance for 3rd party only is £2500. but his aprents apy for it as they have the money. my honest opinion is drive what you like but if your in experienced and buy something you can't handle, don't be surprised if you wrap yourself around a tree with in 18 months.
  3. as an update rs tuning look to be offering the ability to remap the current ECU for waht looks like around £400, not been done yet and no info, dynos available yet. but this might be what your looking for.
  4. great finish there, very nice piece of kit.
  5. What do you mean without braking?? I mean just driving and doing that speed and above! sounds like the discs have warped
  6. Yeah, but get the car dyno'd beforehand too will do, got a place round the corner with all the kit. they use it to tune there tournig car on it. will use there set up as my bench mark to work from.
  7. dammit, hadn't seen this thread, look like i'm playing pool then
  8. if you were to mod the car setup after the new map is installed will the map adjust to the new exhaust/filter etc, or would it need remapping?
  9. the exhaust is harder than the wire wool, its abrasive enough to remove crud. but not hard enough to cut the metal. and evenif i tdid a quick run of wet and dry would restore it, finsih with brasso and good as new. did this on my H&S custom stainless exhaust worked a treat.
  10. this looks promising would be interested to see where this leads. i;m guessing it would be best to get all engine mods done first before doing this.
  11. is this still happening on thursday? who's going?
  12. i've rubbed down with wirewool and wet and dry paper and then finished off with brasso, but a better chemical paste would be autosol.
  13. the only mod that will see you any noticable gains is a plenum spacer. everttyhing else is cancelled out by the ECU. if you want to get over this then you need a piggyback ECU or a new ECU piggy backs can be got for around £600 but thats before tuning, replacement ECU's like the Haltech will be around £900 before any tuning is done. you will eassily spend £1000-£1500 for about a 10% gain. the more mods you add before hand like air intake exhaust plenum spacer etc, the more the replacemnt/piggyback will be able to do with it. alot of money when you look at it £'s per bhp gained
  14. just seen them my laptop on the work connection doesn't always show embedded stuff. sounds good.
  15. I read that wrong, it was the guy in the BMW who was the rookie! My mistake You dont know who Jason Plato is? Rookie was doing well by the looks of it, but if its still the same format as last time I watched, in some races they reverse the field, so its likely he started at the front as he wasnt that good and Plato made his way through the field. Could be wrong though as I havent seen the race. correct, watched it last night on sky. as my the bodyshop i use were racing in it; team AFM Racing
  16. think it must be my work net connection as it doesn't always show all links, cos i can't find a single video thread. will have to check later when i get home. am really liking this, was kind of what i was looking for. especially as its the whole system and not just a back box.
  17. its a nice looking piece of kit http://www.blueflameperformance.com/pra ... 6&x=13&y=6 very tempted at that price, just would really like to hear what it sounds like. its £80 more direct from blueflame
  18. But I think he still won as the other guy was given a penalty for 4 seconds +1That is some excellent driving and from a rookie?? a rookie? jason plato has been driving for years
  19. Some nice shops in Chester Rich what ... they have an ann summers mega store
  20. i ran my mr2 with no engine cover for years, its aesthetic
  21. i'm happy to bring a pack lunch, i'm still unable to confirm, as its the weekend before my wifes birthday and she hasn't decided if she wants to do something then or not. i'm hoping not and she saves it till the following weekend so i can go out and play.
  22. i think these are some of my favourite wheels
  23. sand it all smooth with a 1500 grade wet and dry, wipe down the surface with a degreaseing agent like meths or white spirits. leave to dry thoughouly. then when spraying use a plastic primer, hold the can about 30 cm away from the unit, start moving and spraying just off from the item and move across slowly left to right. stopping spraying as you are off the other side of the item and on the paper. this stops dribbles from the nozzle landing on the paint. move down a bit and continue again with the same process. slowly working down the item still working left to right etc. once first coat is on, it might not have full coverage of the item and could be patchy don't worry as you'll get it second time round. leave to dry for 1 hour then rub down gently with a 2500 grade wet and dry, and then repeat as above. you can easily put on 3 or 4 coats of primer. if they are nice and light they will dry quickly and be easy to sand between coats. and should leave a glass like finish if you use the wet and dry right. i would then leave over night to fully harden before starting on the colour. and as before repeat as above with the colour. and then leave to harden over night. sand between each coat and you should still have a good glassy finish. laquer is slightly harder, the process is roughly the same, but you need to move the can at just the right speed. to slow and you will get runs as it builds up to quickly. to fast and not enough will go down and it will leave an orange peel effect. then i'd leave it a week to harden fully, preferably after 2 days stick it in your airing cupboard to harden. as said before, slow and steady is the key, if you rush it it will look rubbish hope that helps.
  24. i've had roadsters before and love them, best advantage of the roadster version is that with the roof down the car sounds awesome to drive, much better than the coupe. i have the coupe partly because my wife wasn't keen on passengering with the roof down, and there are still days when the suns out where i wish i could drop the top. both are good cars, it just comes down to personal preference and taste. each to their own etc. i think that it looks a little like a butch version of the ford KA in roadster version, a spoiler might help but i like it coupe style.
