lots of choice and lots of options, might help list out what you want and what your looking for. i.e. 4 or 2 seats, RWD,FWD or 4WD etc etc do you want a v8? does it need to be a bit economical?

my perfornace specialist charges £30 an hour and then what ever the parts are in cost. i suppose it depends on where in the UK you are. you're london based jerry, and costs can often be higher. Thats very cheap IMO. Down here the best you can expect it £50 cash in hand "mates rates" or £50+VAT for official inderpendant work. I think the most problem with Nissan and the Zed is I beleive they ship most of the parts in from Japan. Some come from Belgium, thats where my BCM came from, but I think any engine parts will likely come from Japan. Wonder if we could get the parts from Renault if you know their part numbers for the cars that use VQ engines (Leguna and Espace are ones I seem to remember) my MR2 needed a new floor pan from toyota, they ordered it in from japan, took 2 attempts as the first arrived bent. so shipping in costs aren't cheap, but they should have a surplus of parts for the usual stuff. but then all suppliers ship their parts in doesn;t make nissan special. as for the cost of my specialist, i am lucky that i have a good place at a sensible cost, most of suffolk charge about £30 an hour ex VAT, but we're off the beaten track a bit. same reason we only pay £1.30 for a litre of normal fuel, we're 3p cheaper a litre than essex on average.

both honda and toyota parts are cheaper, but for some reason nissan seems to think they built a ferrari. but we've all known that for years, we've alwyas said only a moron goes to the dealerships for any work. and never buy parts from them unless you take plenty of lube with you. thats why people like Zmanalex has thrived supplying parts that nissan want your balls in exchange for.

no more rediculous than nissan prices and any sensible person would be going to good independents not Porshe unless it was still in warranty. and with so many around 2nd parts aren't that expensive.

the zed is good, but i'd definetly try the S2000, i came from MR2 roadster and loved it, the zed was good but i personally found it to be a compromise, later swapped to an S2000 and found it a much more rewarding drive. but again the S2000 has its compromises its a toss up between size handling s2000 = smaller lighter better drive, more responce etc 350z = heavier but more cabin space engine 350Z = bigger engine more torque, linear power delivery (deseptive with speed feels slow when it isn;t) s2000 = smaller engine less torque, but a more rev range (brilliant on track) try both and see what you prefer. having owned both, my personal favourite has to be the S2000, one of the best cars i've owned.

i fall in to ricey's third bracket, i appreciate a nice car, and always give a slight nod towards some one who appreciates a good performance car. i even appreciate things like the Vdub scene, never owned one but then its not what i'm looking for.

sigh another ill informed person; this is the same reason people over look the S2000, and also see the MR2 roadster as a "girls" car. i'd be more than happy to take a boxster over the zed, same as i think the S2000 was a better drive than the Zed. A. the boxster looks better as a convertible than the zed B. its lighter C. the car is better balanced with the engine where it is D. its not made of pig iron and cast lead E. the badge F. its a better drive the zeds great, enjoyable to drive, but there are so many other great cars to try out, and own. personally i don't think you can base that kind of decision with out having driven it. i'd also have the cayman over the 370Z and the XKRS over the GTR; i'm not denying both the GTR and the 370Z are great cars, but there are other things that float my boat more. doesn;t mean i'd slag it or the owner off just because i don't like it.

Where does it say this? I spent ages yesterday googling and couldnt find anything. I even found forums where other people had done the same and not managed to find anything. I know its a legal requirement that all cars built after 1993 have to have a cat fitted when they are made. But, couldnt find anything saying that its illegal to drive a car without a cat fitted. Not doubting you, but would be good to have concrete evidence to settle this debate. let me get home from work, and i shall email the VOSA for a definitive answer, and i shall post up the reply when it comes, logic would dictate that if its a legal requirement for them to be built with, and you need one to pass your MOT, and that by swapping them out at MOT means that your car isn't actually road worthy. which means your insurance policy isn't actually valid. would make me think they aren't legal. but if you want to hear it from the VOSA themselves i'll write it tonight
