  1. I'm a classic insomniac, I do not sleep without aids. I have problems with my train of thought going too rapidly when I try to 'do nothing'. So I've been like that most of my life, and I'm ok on about 6 hours sleep. Medically 6 hours is on the short side, however, people are different, very different and you can get used to different rhythms and your body rhythms can change suddenly for no reason (late hayfever sufferers for example). I have a few extremes myself, I'm one of those lucky people who cannot put on weight, when I stop eating junk food like a horse, I lose weight rapidly (no I don't have worms! ), I'm very energetic, I still run up and down flights of stairs like a teenager . One day, my body's just going to flip a switch and slow down that crazy metabolism. Maybe I'll be able to sleep as well, then! So don't worry, as long as you feel ok, and I mean really ok, don't dismiss it if you're having just minor mood swings, or something like that, surely there's nothing to worry about. In any case, at the end of the day, what can you do about it? As long as you feel fine, no doctor will prescribe anything and rightly so. If I were you, I'd just enjoy the extra free time. Obviously, those who sleep average 8 hours, lose an entire third of their lives to sleep. This quote, incorrectly ascribed to Edgar Allen Poe, but is very Edgar Allen Poe-ish, says it best... "Sleep... Those little slices of death, how I loathe them." P.S. If you're going to learn a language, Mandarin.
  2. I agree its done her no favours, but sorry, it kinda is all about Brexit in the first instance, if "we" dont get that right, the whole country will be f****d so makes no difference who was in power and done what during the next couple of years! Hear, hear.
  3. Anyway, I'm not arguing politics in here, people are too clicky. I just wanted to make my point, you're welcome to disagree, but I won't be countering any points, I didn't want to discuss it, I wanted to tell you guys well done, and enjoy the government you deserve (i.e. no government). All of you who were going to vote Tory, then changed your minds based on Corbyn's BS have let the country down, mark my words. I got nothing more to say on this, if you lot think everything's ok with democracy in the UK, and this is a 'good result' for the country, you're lucky, ignorance is indeed bliss.
  4. I have a mate in Acton who told me that his local labour MP increased her 275 seats to over 13000. Boggles the mind. Why would anyone vote Labour, WHY!?!? They are a party in disarray, they don't even like each other, and they have no confidence in their leader, but they pretend they do, cos get this...he's the best they've got!! Frightening.
  5. I know mate, it was silly of her to mix things up, and that muddying was what you were referring to, sorry for implying that you meant something else, actually it was just in my field of vision and I picked up on it as one of the many minor things that people seem to think are more important than real issues. Don't get me wrong, it is a real issue and I want it banned, but in times like these we are living in, it's no reason for the electorate to have the hump, one way or the other.
  6. But don't you think it's sad when we have to admit that our people are so ignorant, they shouldn't have the right to vote on certain matters? The thing is it would have become an election pledge at some point anyway, but hey...
  7. Well, she won 'the most'. This is the whole thing, by casting votes willy nilly without a real clue, we've ended up without leadership AND out of the EU. Such a shame. P.S. Interesting isn't it, how a 1.5% majority isn't enough to choose a clear leader every five years, but somehow it was enough to reverse 40 years of politics...?
  8. I apologize for ranting, but this has to be said... Its funny you guys trying to talk sensibly and logically about what has simply descended into chaos. The British electorate is in TOTAL disarray, you shouldn't be saying things like 'May must go'. That's not helpful in any way shape or form, she's our democratically elected leader now, you HAVE to give her a chance AND your support, anything else would be idiotic. You just voted her in and now you want to get rid of her the next day!!? Remind anyone of another recent election across the pond? This chopping and changing who we like every 5 minutes because of arbitrary criteria (fox hunting, WHAT THE HOLY HELL? WHO GIVES A $HIT ABOUT THAT when people are being blown up and the pound is falling, and the Germans are trying to take over the world again, you change your vote 'because fox hunting is bad, mkay?', let's look at that when things are a bit less chaotic, hm?!). The truth is that most of those politicians ARE equipped to lead, at least on an educational level, look at Greece, we voted for a guy who didn't even speak English. The problem is you entitled brats aren't giving them a chance to lead. Everything they do, they have to fight a million special snowflakes who have picked up on some aspect that they feel 'isn't right', and decided to incite the mob. Pick a goddam leader and for fks sake give them some support instead of your constant derision. I am again disappointed to be British today, we have become no different from the segregated (in terms of wealth and status) entitled brats in America, unable to put ourselves into the shoes of others or leave our comfort zones, and it's sad as fk, cos we used to be better than that. Chucking in 40 years of EU cos the farmers don't like the EU tax on carrots and a few racists want to stop immigration? Bravo, what a fk up. Immigration won't change in the short term, the farmers will be POORER and the racists have got emboldened by their moral victory. Mercy me, all of that stuff could have been negotiated, but nooooo, because some some people's stick up their arse has a stick up it's arse, we had to have a total divorce, why? To send a message? What message, that we're idiots to whom 40 years of cooperation don't mean anything? Nice one. Then there's the morons who changed their vote for this GE based on the load of complete and utter tripe in the press. I fking give up. /end rant Edit: calmed down the language a tad, but not too much
  9. Fast charging is always a trade off against the overall longevity of a battery. You can bet that people will be advised to 12h charge when they have the comfort and only fast charge in emergencies, or face changing the battery ($$) significantly sooner than might otherwise have been needed. Just saying. I put it to you guys... let's say a new battery cost 5000 quid (because if it really does do 1000x500 mile cycles, it should last pretty much the life of the car), and was able to log at what wattages it had been charged, in order for the dealer to know what type of charging had been done and therefore, whether it was abuse or genuine warranty failure... When you picked up your car, the dealer told you...trickle charge when not using the car for a period, normal charge daily (let's optimistically say 6 hours, in order to get it done during almost anyone's sleep cycle), and use the 20 minute option only if you have to, cos each fast charge takes 100% more toll on the battery than a 6 hour charge. Fast driving (sic: fast DIScharging) ALSO has a detrimental effect on the overall longevity of lithium batteries, so factor heavy feet into the longevity as well as the average range per charge. Let's then say, that the battery lasts 1000 cycles of 500 mile range in perfectly optimal conditions. In reality, let's say the average battery will take 750 cycles and reliably produce 300m range of VARIED driving, not optimal. So that;s a total battery life of 225,000 miles. Right, now let;s say you're lazy or forgetful and you consistently remember half an hour before you go somewhere, '@*!#, I haven't charged the car', so you fast charge it more often, and you reduce your battery life by half. Now, if you know you aren't the most organised person AND you have a heavy foot, you'll be looking at a 6 grand bill (including labour, probably), every 100,000 miles. How often would you fast charge? How much effort would you make to increase the life of a battery? Would this be a pain in your ass worrying about it compared to a trip down the petrol station? How often would you launch the car, knowing the cost on the battery? And lastly, let's not forget that when a combustion engine nears the end of its life, it keeps going, albeit smokily and roughly, if you try to keep working a dying lithium battery, you'll have a major fire, so there won't be an option of 'soldiering on' with a weak battery, it will be completely disabled by the vehicle once the individual cells drop below critical voltage, as that's the danger zone. This may seem like a lot of assumptions, but it isn't, these are EXACTLY the concerns we have with hobby batteries, I mentioned good ones are ferociously expensive before, and have fewer cycles, as well as degrade over time, so you have to really consider the impact of each charge. You can do what you want with them, you can charge them RIDICULOUSLY fast if you want, but it doesn't do them any good at all, so it's always a trade off. It's a lot of variables which will mean that the worst and best users will get RADICALLY different longevity and performance out of their batteries.
  10. and one on the car for effect. GLWS
  11. Ah, democracy at work again, it may not make sure you get an effective government, but it does tend to give you the government you deserve. It's all good, cheaper parts for me! Yay!
  12. Insensitive, but just the kind of stuff that shouldn't be dwelled upon, just a bunch of oil-rich brats.
  13. your = 'you're' I think, Ade. He means it's alright for you, but he can't afford SPL, so stop making him jealous. Don't worry nissanman, I can't afford SPL either, we can cry together and 370Z master race there can have his fun.
  14. Yes, global disenchantment seems to be reaching out to everybody, everywhere. Things are afoot in the human psyche lately and I don't like it. People just need to be more respectful of one another, make an extra effort, times of turmoil are hard on everyone and we are living in times of turmoil. Even if it hasn't directly touched you yet, you still feel the tension, and it's global. Here in Greece, we've been feeling a lot of pressure, capital controls are still in place. It's spreading, Brexit was a direct result of it (global disenchantment, the migrant issue, etc), Trump as well, Russians aside, the jihad just makes everyone nervous anyway, not good. There's a reason why the statement 'may you live in interesting times' is considered a curse in Chinese.
  15. The three laws of robotics are clever in design but unimplementable. You'd still have to program prioritisation of death or risk the robot deciding on its own, or failing to react at all. For example, a school bus with 10 children just went over the bridge, but also a bus carrying the world's greatest physicists, without whom science would be set back generations. What's more important? This is why self drive cars will never be truly 'Johnnycabs', it's an impossioble conundrum. In any case a robot faced a situation it had not been programmed to anticipate, it might decide that the best course of action to solve an unsolvable equation is NOT to solve it, and let both buses go to their deaths, or they might try to save both and fail at either. This decision making (and the ability to deceive) is the advantage we will always have over our robot overlords. Sadly it won't stop them wiping us out in the blink of an eye, but I'll take what I can get.
  16. Added some extra info by way of edit.
  17. ^True nuff, but like you say, it's a start, and it's the strongest condemnation yet.
  18. Well! It seems that the next best thing to 'feeding them to the pigs' (or to be more accurate, and self-serving, to 'hit them in the virgins') is indeed considered a significant deterrent and is being implemented by at least some Islamic leaders. http://www.bbc.co.uk...ngland-40175088 I must say I feel somewhat vindicated. Yes, some will say that it's not at all the same as feeding them to the pigs, but it does have the same result as I wanted, so if I'd known the significance of this 'funeral prayer', then obviously, I would have suggested that instead of actually feeding them to pigs. Well done Islamic dudes, about time we had some more significant solidarity and condemnation in stronger terms than 'not our islam'. Bravo.
  19. I have just rescued everything related to the suspension on my car. All of it is worth doing under your stated goal of making it feel new again, I have the same goal. I replaced... Struts and springs with HSD MonoPro coilovers Both banana arms with second hand low mileage NISSAN OE from a breaker on this forum. Both front lower control arms with second hand low mileage NISSAN OE from a breaker on this forum. Drop links are a common failure, and my front left is clunking. I have whiteline heavy duty ones on order which should be here in a few weeks (f + r) My car was abused, so for that reason alone I will be also adding front camber arms (mainly to replace the front ball joints, another weak point on our cars), rear camber arms, and rear traction arms. The driftworks set (sold by Tarmacsportz on this site and driftworks UK of course, for the same price at both outlets) is the cheapest without going no-name, and of course they are Chinese too, but branded, warrantied and QA'd by Driftworks. Torqen.uk (also forum vendor) has a HUGE selection of arms to choose from, oe, oem replacement, and aftermarket, to suit ANY budget. You will probably then want to look at diff and subframe bushings. P.S. Second hand OE front control arms and banana arms (provided they have bushes of 50% life or more) are better than brand new Dorman ones and usually cheaper. The Moog ones (see Torqen.uk) are likely to be better quality than the Dorman ones (from what I've read) and are only 10 quid each more expensive, IIRC. Another alternative is to simply re-bush the ones you have.
  20. Ah, I didn't click on the ebay link as the way the op was phrased, I believed I would be looking at a single, my bad for not reading properly. Edit: that's a scorpion half system or clone thereof. It is louder than stock, but since it's the resonated version, it's unlikely to affect the sale of the car, imo. It's exactly what most people want.
  21. Define near future. A billion years is the very near future in galactic terms. Not trying to be obtuse, it's key to the point when this will happen. And are we talking about the uk or all 1st world nations?
  22. My criteria are in my posts, I'm not confused, what I said is clear, whether or not it directly relates to what someone else said changes not the meaning of the post or its relevance to the topic, take it as a statement on its own if you like. In that case you could say it was erroneous of me to open with 'I support you except this', since I then slightly warped 'this' to make my own statement, but hey ho, it's all good.
