  1. There's only one thing anyone can take away from your post for certain. You don't trust these guys. Why have people you don't trust work on the car? Take it for a second opinion somewhere else first. In the meantime, I'm sure someone will be along with some realistic prices on the sensors.
  2. Hammond drifted a 911 beautifully in his first season on TG, but I agree, from the start, the cars Hammond gets into are more likely to kill him, even more so if you maintain that he is the less skilled driver, so I say again, Hammond has balls and extreme tastes, more risk=more probability. The TG episode where he was driving that Zonda around teh canyons showed some aptitude at real driving (as opposed to under perfectly controlled circumstances, like JC on a racetrack or airfield).
  3. I don't think one race is indicative, too many variables.
  4. The batteries if pierced, will very quickly produce an endothermic reaction, rapid enough to produce a very violent, very high temperature external fire and in extreme cases a 'puff' type explosion my occur (it's not a rapid explosion like a bomb). Here's what happens when you abuse a lithium polymer battery at hobby scale (but please, don't think this is a toy car battery, these batteries can produce 600 amps at 25v, they are VERY serious in terms of power density, extreme amounts of energy in a small space)... Obviously there will be loads of safeguards against this in commercial products, but @*!# happens, and when it happens, a huge fire is the inevitable result. Explosions can occur due to: Physical damage, over charging (failure of charge cutoff), over-discharging (failure of low voltage cutoff), and improper cell balancing (failure of the charger to charge each cell equally). It's definitely a worry.
  5. I wish I had, that would have saved me about 300 quid and some labour if I'd known last year that I would also eventually buy camber arms. I had to replace the shocks immediately when I picked up the car, the previous owner had cut the springs and perches.
  6. I dunno, Clarkson hoons them on airfields, Hammond likes the track cars and the extreme stuff. Driving skill probably about the same, but Hammond puts himself in danger more often I reckon.
  7. CAI will lose you power. The mods to DE that will give you cheap power, are an intake plenum spacer (gives the front-most cylinders more space to breathe), a little venturi in the stock airbox (nothing else is needed on the filter side, the stock airbox is very good) less restrictive manifolds, removing cats or fitting HFCs, and a less restrictive Y-pipe. Do those and get a tune and you'll be happy with the extra pull and aggressive note. Since it's a v6 and has two banks of cylinders, one on each side, if you ask me, it's a shame not to fit a true dual system. By the way, everybody, and I do mean everybody who says 'I'll only mod lightly' ends up contracting a terrible case of Zeditis.
  8. Any Z with a bulging bonnet instead of 2 lines going down it (this is the easiest visual indication) is the latest model, the HR. As opposed to the original 02-05 model, the DE, and a DE 'revup' model that was in between them (05-06?). If you're feeling brave there is a supercharged DE for sale for that kind of money, I think, someone on here, but I forget who. Each update got a tiny tad more power, the HR has 306 I think (??) but the early 280hp early ones are not slow or lacking in driving excitement. The interior plastics in the HR are diabolical, most HR interiors that you see will appear to be in worse condition than the older DEs, it's not the owner's fault, you can scratch them by staring at one spot for too long, but don't worry about that, a little elbow grease and can of plastidip cure a multitude of sins. Lastly, if I were buying a Zed, and I were a car guy, I'd be looking for a cheap DE with a solid platform to work from, and start bolting stuff on to achieve my vision of the car, which funnily enough is exactly what I did. Good luck, hope it helps.
  9. Good lord, I hear Boris is being encouraged to dethrone May. Hell, I'd rather have JAMES May as PM than Boris Johnson. This is just going from laughable to slapstick!
  10. I know what you mean, I had a modified E92 335XI, and it just wasn't for me. Not enough character, or I'm just not old enough for a BMW yet. I always felt like I was borrowing someone else's car, and the unwanted attention ("must be nice") was soul destroying. The Zed attracts more attention here, but the nice kind, mostly people want to hear the exhaust, but then it's a very rare car here, not so much in the UK, but obviously still less common than a fast BMW 3 series, I would think. The Z is a beast. It's not as fast as the beamer was, but it snarls and feels much more visceral and engaging to drive. The Z's the perfect messing around car, not so expensive that you treat it gently, but not so cheap that you couldn't turn up to a premiere in it. The Z's unique selling points are that V6 sound and such easy drifting your Nan could do it. A loud exhaust is a must. Best sports car for the money when it was released, and it's still the case today, imo. The engines are ultra reliable and stand up well to abuse. Welcome to the institution.
  11. Think you mean graphene Zee, but correct me if I'm wrong. Graphene is the future, invest if you can find a way.
  12. It's a numbers game. It hasn't happened to Clarkson cos he isn't actually very brave. Having some thing go seriously wrong at speed with a modern car, is a one time in a thousand event. So if you drive two thousand cars at those kind of speeds, it's kinda inevitable that a couple of them are going to try to kill you. At least he's not Harrison Ford who seems to think that his Millennium Falcon experience entitles him to a pilot's license. How THAT guy is still alive after crashing a plane and landing through a commercial flight path on the wrong runway, is beyond me. Legend.
  13. It won't take you long to find a lot of reviews stating that Dorman stuff is hit and miss, and that the bushings don't last (in items with bushings, obviously, lol). I have one of their slave clutch cylinders, but no first hand experience of the arms. THe other thing that scares the bejesus out of me on the dorman arms, is how much they charge for them in America. It's 40 quid an arm. Just the bushes should cost half that. There are also off brand ones on ebay, cheap (ironically, not as cheap as the cheapest outlet I've found for Dorman), which people almost universally say will only last 6 months tops. There can't be that many factories making these, so it's a safe assumption that some of these OE arms out there are the same as this ebay tosh, stands to reason. Moog on the other hand are a highly rated brand, the bushings are blue in the moog items as well, so it's definitely a different product to the ebay tripe. I know most of that reasoning is circumstantial, but it's enough for me to recommend getting the Moog ones when they're only 10 quid more and know that I'm not steering anyone wrong at least (no pun intended). .
  14. <groan>. If I had virtual tomatoes to throw...
  15. Are you sure that's bird @*!#? It looks very even in colour and evenly distributed on the SIDE of the car more than the top. To me it looks like the kind of thing you'd have if a JCB went through a muddy puddle next to your car. Photo is a bit small, so can't really tell, just chucking a left field idea out there. Otherwise, yeh, a Pterodactyl with explosive diarrhea, or a large flock of something passing over and sharing their distaste for electric vehicles en masse.
  16. My wife gets day long headaches if she sleeps in too. Just thought you might like to know, you're not alone... You're the first time I've heard someone else say it.
  17. I think you underestimate my chances, I'd do better than the lib dems Plus you don't seem to fully appreciate my stable and strong leadership.
  18. I should come back to the UK and form a party. Given the competition, I really think I'd have a chance. I'm not bad looking, good at engaging people, smart, cocky, over-confident, I'm OVER qualified! My policies would be simple, free healthcare, but tax relief for using private, renationalise all public transport, run it properly and make a profit from it. Subsidised Universities, but not completely free. Ban chewing gum, outright, in the whole UK (for the pavements and to assist with unemployment, stupid people look much less vapid when theyre not chewing gum, so they'd find it easier to get jobs). Let Bricktop deal with all the dead jihadis and um, what was the other thing...? Oh yeh, LEGALISE IT! Oh, and I'd reverse Brexit, without a second referendum, I'd simply tear it up and pretend it never happened. You'd all vote for me, right?
  19. I had to laugh at this footnote on this bbc article...how succinct. Source: http://www.bbc.com/n...n-2017-40219338
  20. Do agree.... Afrikaans I already know, so just re-learn some of the vocabulary. Afrikaans will make make learning Dutch and German much easier. Japanese is purely because I will be living there for a little while, so would like the basics. No doubt I will try and learn some others as I progress with my travels and Spanish will eventually be on the list. You sound like a man with a plan, hat off to you sir.
  21. I've been trying to find extra time to play the mobile game CSR2 lately, it's really good, highly recommended, it's a a slow starter and classic freemium model, but doesn't punish you like some of them do, you can always keep going and the loyalty rewards are good. Tuning the cars is rewarding and free (changing settings and doing test runs are free, tuning parts, obviously, are not). When you get to tier 5, skill starts to play a major role, both in tuning and driving. Doesn't beat wanking of course, but it's a less messy alternative. Enjoy.
  22. I don't even have words for my jealousy.
  23. The trouble with Afrikaans, and Japanese, and Greek for that matter...is that they are only spoken in one country each, pretty much. You already have such a huge advantage in the world language arena as a native English speaker, it would be a shame to miss teh opportunity to learn Spanish, cos it's **** easy and the most widely spoken language by square kilometre I believe, and Mandarin, as it's the most widely spoken language per capita, and you can communicate on a decent level, with around 80% of the world.
  24. The irony is that's what the case should be, it's only cos we're sheeple, that it doesn't suffice.
  25. What do you guys think would be better right now, a strong leader with a blase attitude to administration, ala Churchill, or an Administrator with little charisma. I don't really know, both will have their strengths and weaknesses. I guess the unwashed mass needs to be galvanised more than a smooth brexit, so I'm going to go with strong leadership, but sadly, I can't see any of those on the horizon. Would it be so hard for the Tories to hire some PR people?
