  1. I've done the 'aux input mod' with my bose unit, then bought a Bluetooth module which I plug the aux cable into. Works fantastically and all done for under £30. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Led rear lights

I found mine on eBay, I kept messaging traders breaking 06+ cars and eventually found one that didn't realize the LED's sold for a premium and sold them as the regular rear lights for about 1/4 the price. Took a while but worthwhile IMO.
  3. Also that bit of plastic pops out really easily, so will be very easy to fish around and re-seat the button!

    Track day MX5

Make sure all your Mk2 / Mk2.5 owners check your chassis rails (either side of the engine bay) from both above and below. They are sandwich construction and suffer from water ingress so rust from the inside (and a massive job to replace). Although a few companies new sell repair sections for them complete with all the mounting holes - Something to be mindful of!
  5. Girlfriend has got a 1.2 Pop, in 'new age cream' with white accents, I think it's a 'colour therapy', essentially base spec but with air con and a few styling bits. Hers is a '13 model. Interior does feel cheap (things like the HVAC controls feel really 'loose') and the seats are really hard and make your bum ache after a long journey. The steering is also freakishly light, with a button for parking to make it even lighter! Trouble is she finds the light steering makes it hard to drive on the motorway as the car seems to wonder as there's so little feedback. We try to avoid using it for long trips. Had a few issues - Water leaked in through the aerial and ruined the reception, it went for a power steering recall but had problems soon after. Of course all were sorted by the dealer, although she was less than impressed with the service - But that's probably just isolated to this particular dealer. But that said, she loves the thing. The above sounds really negative, but really it has been a great little car for her... Trouble is they are really common here now, so the novelty of it has worn off - Plus I think she paid £11k odd, which is essentially VW Polo money which seems mental - So I think when her lease is up that's what she'll go for. EDIT: Also she got a greater contribution on her deposit from Fiat because her mum is a teacher / works for the council.. I doubt the scheme is still running but worth an ask.
  6. Very nice bud, Quick question - How did you find the seafoam? Worth doing?
  7. Ahhh, NFS Underground was the game that made younger me want a 350z when he grew up!
  8. I personally wouldn't be overly concerned, it's a fairly lazy engine with a somewhat low specific output - Plus at motorway cruising speed in 6th the engine is only doing about 2.5k rpm. So higher mileage examples wouldn't worry me engine-wise, there's some guys in the states with twice that.
  9. Got to take the picture at the classic hairpin, it's almost a right of passage..
  10. Welcome! Also from another Cornish member. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Ah how strange! The weird thing was for me both fronts started at exactly the same time - So it seems unlikely both front wheel bearings just happened to fail at the same time... God knows! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Hi mate, did you ever solve this? I had this recently, seen here: https://youtu.be/s9_f87ZFT0o It happened after getting new tyres and spacers fitted. I took the wheels off, had a poke about - Made sure the disc guards weren't hitting anything and reassembled.... And it's sorted, but I'm not quite sure why! Just thought I'd message to see if you have any insight to offer!
  13. As above really, excellent condition with no horrid scratches or broken tabs. Collection from Bristol, or I can post! £50 Posted! £40 Collected!
  14. I've got a driving force GT which I picked up off ebay for £35, really impressed with it so far!
  15. I would say the only consideration they left out was the ground effect, which may well have aided the front spiller in it's effectiveness. Which is why some wind tunnels effectively have a conveyor belt as a floor to simulate this. For anyone interested I can't recommend the book 'Competition Car Aerodynamics: A Practical Handbook' it's absolutely phenomenal and really interesting and accessible to anyone.
  16. I hope not. From someone who has never done a track day, and still wondering if I should or not, this video has put me right off! Honestly don't let it put you off. The last track day I've done was at Castle Combe in my old Mx5 and I actually took my mother as it was her 50th and I wanted to do something memorable with her. We were by far the least exotic and slowest car there (with her driving especially) but everyone was SO considerate and never intimidated her. Whenever cars would come up behind, they just hung back until we got to a straight and pulled / indicated over before they made their way past. She went from almost backing out beforehand to absolutely loving it and almost refusing to come back in. So please don't be discouraged! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. As above, Unfortunately I've only recently got my Z, so I missed out on getting a ticket! Many thanks. Ryan
  18. Ha, that's one of the reasons I got rid of the MX5. Couldn't stand the type of people they were beginning to attract - Owners that had crashed their Saxo and were buying their first RWD car and calling it their 'drift slut'. I hope the 350 doesn't reach that point for a long, long time!
  19. Thanks all - The comments are really appreciated! I would absolutely love to take on a project like that, in fact I'm reading through your build thread now... Jealousy isn't even the word! Thanks GMballistic! Yours is another thread actually that I'm slowly working my way through, really enjoying it so far - I think my wallet cowers in terror more and more with each page I read! Indeed I do, currently on their graduate development scheme - Although unfortunately I'd not had much exposure to any vac casting tech so far, looks interesting though! Anyway, on to today.... Had a fantastic day today in the 350 and a nice change from the usual boring work commute / maintenance! I've lived in Bristol for several years now, and each year I'd promise myself I'd spent a day around the Brecon Beacons experiencing some of the best roads the UK has to offer, but for some reason each year I'd never get around to it, ridiculous I know... After waking up this morning and seeing the weather I decided I couldn't put it off any longer. First, it started off with a quick Google - After which we had a plan, I had a rough idea of where I wanted to go just from reading countless threads from people doing a similar trip! Unfortunately I didn't get as many photos as I'd hoped, I was just having to much damn fun. First up of course is the classic 'right of passage' photo that everyone seems to snap! To those that don't know, this is the A4069 which runs between Byrnamman and Llangadog and is often used on Chris Harris videos/ Top Gear / Evo Magazine and it's easy to see why - It's absolutely phenomenal. Without a doubt the most fun I've had behind the wheel in a very, very long time. Although that hairpin is so much tighter and steeper than it looks in the videos! With a satellite view, it looks like this: I drove up and down three times, with two of those being uphill jaunts which in my opinion are much more fun in the 350. The section is extremely technical and tight with a consistent sheer drop (often unguarded) to one side and stones lining the road, so there's very little margin for error. I have to admit the 350 certainly feels it's width at points! That said, it's absolutely exhilarating when you are driving along and it's all suddenly laid out in front of you - An absolute must for anyone that's not done it yet! Unfortunately that's all I managed to snap, but after 5 hours of driving and an entire tank of Momentum99 I'm still sat here grinning from ear to ear! There can't be many other cars out there that offer such a thrill on these roads, but then allow you to sit back, flick the cruise control on and let it effortlessly eat up those motorway miles home, all the while your girlfriend happily naps in the passenger seat!
  20. Thanks for the replies guys & Yes Alex! To be honest I almost enjoy working on the car as much as I enjoy driving it, ridiculous really! I’m afraid this update is another ‘boring’ P1 maintenance type one – But something I think some of you may find interesting. Local to me is a ‘self-service’ garage on the outskirts on Bristol, where you are able to hire ramps and tools by the hour (for this particular place it’s £15/for the first hour then £10/ph after that). Plus there is a tech on site for advice etc – But more importantly if you service your car they’ll check over your work and if it’s up to scratch they’ll give you a service stamp for the work done, so you get the satisfaction and assurance that it's been done correctly, whilst still getting the all important stamp! I can absolutely assure you I’m not affiliated with them in any way, just keen to raise awareness and help out some fellow enthusiasts offering a great service (who also happen to own a 350!) Some pics: Some interesting stuff dotted about, owners projects I think: Up on the ramps! Only a P1 oil and filter this time, nothing sexy unfortunately! The car has only done about 5k miles since I changed it last, but as I’ve only recently got it I prefer to keep to lower maintenance intervals for now just to be sure everything is in tip-top condition.. Managed to the entire service in under 20 minutes without even taking the under tray completely off. So easy when it’s on ramps! So just spend the rest of the time chatting / having a poke about underneath the car… GLUG GLUG: The magnetic sump plug didn't catch any nasties? Which must be a good thing. And all done, easy! IN OTHER NEWS – This morning I got bored and decided to quickly model a simple 350 profile and put it through an aerodynamics package, mainly for my own interest. But over the next few weeks I think I’ll make the effort and try to model the car properly, it’ll be interesting to understand the impact of any of these lips/skirts/diffusers if/when I fit them to the car... A rather predictable cut-plot: And of course a .gif: Thanks for taking the time to read!
  21. Right, time for a long overdue update! For a start the majority of this post happened a fair while ago, but just not had a chance to properly write it all up! First and foremost, I still adore the car. In the short few months I've had it I've already covered 5k+ miles and it's been absolutely faultless. Hopefully this mileage will subside soon as I'll be able to car-share to work. When I bought the car, I knew it had some of the classic Z common issues which I was looking forward to sorting. Most of them have already been addressed, but now was time to get the last of them.. As well as do another mini-service... By this point I think I've replaced almost every 'consumable' service item possible, so it's as mechanically sound as can be, which means I can move onto the more EXCITING STUFF! Spark Plugs, Aux Belts, Fuel Damper, Rear Axle Greasing $ Under-Body Inspection @ 98,840 Miles (Carried out 06/03/15) I know I've banged on here about how much I love working on cars myself, and true as that may be... I have been known to to get the professionals involved if I'm feeling lazy and it's a particularly rainy day (that's my excuse anyway!). So, I booked the car in with Mark @ Penarth MX5.. MX5's you ask?! What's he doing working on a 350Z? Well, Mark was the only person I'd trust working on the Mazda and now I've come into Nissan ownership I see no reason to change that. But best of all he'll let you help out and work on the car also, which is great fun! (Plus he's hourly charge is very reasonable...) Getting all the supplies in, Can you believe Nissan want £170 for one of these? Thanks to our ZMANALEX for sorting out a much more reasonable price! First up thank-you to all the guides on this forum, they made everything so easy.. After the initial berating for selling my MX5 for a 'Datsun' I could tell he soon starting warming to it... This was during a brief break I was allowed, before being told off for slacking! The old plugs... They had been changed by Nissan at 55k, they don't look too bad here but certainly were worth replacing - You can see they have degraded fairly significantly compared to the new ones: With those changed, we moved onto the rear drive axles. Mine weren't exhibiting the really bad clicking that I've read about on here, but I thought it was worth doing as a precautionary measure. As expected, these really weren't torqued up very tightly - Which from what I've read is a contributing factor to the axles becoming dry & noisy. Again, after recommendations on here I bought some lovely high quality Lucas heavy duty grease and with my trusty paint brush packed as much grease onto the splines as humanly possible! Half way through, thought I'd get an underbody shot.. For a car which is 9/10 years old I can't believe how clean it looks underneath. Maybe that's just because I come from MX5 ownership and they are normally rotten by this point! Oh and also whipped out the MAF and gave it a good clean: Unfortunately at this point, my phone died - So the pictures stopped. But I'm sure you can use your imagination to how it all looked! Everything went smoothly, the car really is a joy to work on (even the fuel damper) which is no where near as bad to change as I'd read! A big thanks to Mark, excellent work as always! I'm not sure if it's placebo but the car did feel to accelerate and advance through the revs more smoothly.. However, something that isn't placebo is my improvement in MPG! Before the service I'd get about 29.8 - 31.8 average on my commute to and from work.. But look what I've averaged at over the past few days, amazing: This car never ceases to impress me! Well, by this point I'd addressed all the mechanical points and servicing with the car, so onto the sexier stuff! First up was the flip key, which I'd wanted to do for ages as I couldn't handle having a van/Micra key for something as gorgeous as a Z! But what now then? Well I'm afraid it seems as though I've completely followed the crowd when it's come to my modifications.. But that's got to be for good reason right? Firstly I picked up a Scorpion exhaust and mid pipe. Now, I said I wouldn't do this, but you can't have a gorgeous V6 engine and not make the absolute most of it. Plus this exhaust came up locally and it would have been a crime not to have it, plus all it needed was a bit of elbow grease and a tube of this: Turning this... Into this: I then took the car to Infinity Exhausts in Bristol.. I would normally do this myself, but I'd read on here that sometimes the Scorpion exhausts may not hang 100% perfectly - So I made sure that any amendments could easily be made to ensure everything was 'just right'. It sounds lovely, about the same noise level at lower RPM's compared to standard, but really opens up at 4k+. Perfect! [/media] Then (again like almost everyone else on the forum!) I fitted a set of chromed indicator bulbs, however what should have been an easy job turned into a mini-nightmare after the already-loose stock bulb fell into the headlight unit when I went to remove it! Whip the headlight out I thought, a couple of bolts - Easy! Well, not on a Z it turns out... It's an undertray/bumper off job, ouch.. After considerable cursing I hatched a cunning plan, one which my entire engineering career had led up too... What you are looking at there gentleman... is my aerial, with an iPhone cabled taped to it, which in turn was fitted with a 'ball' of double sided sticky tape - A fishing rod, essentially. Going in through the indicator bulb hole, after several attempts and many choice words I finally managed to fish it out! Which gave me the following transformation! It cleans up the front of the car so much, if you've not done it already - Go, go and do it now! Now, despite my stock aerial proving it's usefulness at bulb retrieval, it doesn't exactly look sleek, so a Honda RDX one was ordered and fitted. This was accompanied by a front and rear set of 20/25mm spaces from Tarmac Sportz (I'd actually had these fitted prior to this photo but forgot to take a picture, here I'm removing them to coat the faces in copper slip) ...and a set of Nissan OEM LED rear tail lights, probably one of my favourite changes to the car so far! So after all of that, the car more than deserved a good clean! Isn't it lovely?! I'll get some proper pictures of it soon, at the moment I'm just too busy driving it and enjoying it! Anyway, thanks for reading even though I'm sure you've read exactly the same thing hundreds of times on this forum! C&C welcome!
  22. That does look lovely, whats the lip? Mines?
  23. 5k for one with <55k miles? Isn't that a bit optimistic?
  24. Thank you so much everyone, I really do love this community. I'll have a big investigation tomorrow and update this thread, who knows it might help someone else in the future!
