  1. It might be given in sport, but I don't understand why that means it doesn't count? That aside, no other sport has the breadth of reach and penetration into society that football clubs have. The Premier League and Football League covers 92 clubs, and that's just the UK. Which other sport comes close to that? Which other sports operate in nearly every country in the world, in some of the poorest parts of the world? Cricket? Rugby? Tennis? Golf? Athletics? Cycling? The only one I can think that comes close to being as ingrained in community, is boxing. I agree about the lunatics abusing disabled fans and idiots making monkey noises, it's shameful and needs to be punished much more severely and not by financial measures, but ones that pressure these fans into behaving or not going to games, but this isn't "the norm" in a football stadium, this is a very specific group of idiots.
  2. Whilst football is very far from ideally governed, there's virtually no media attention devoted to the great community work clubs do; players visiting local hospitals and childrens homes, handing out presents at christmas, giving kits and boots away to clubs abroad, summer schools, education facilities (not just for young players), access youngsters can get to players and the club on match day experiences and giveaways, free tickets for fans with disabilities and their carers. It's easy to forget the postive impact many clubs right down the football pyramid have on local communities - not to mention the sense of belonging which comes with having a local club, in what are often tough areas. It's easy to get caught up in the "Suarez bites again", "Rooney wants more money", "Balotelli is a bellend" side of football but that's only the most sensational side of the game which attracts the column inches. People like to beat up on footballers because they're extremely well paid (at the top levels) and generally not very bright. No one bats an eyelid and wheels out the role model outrage when rubbish actor X makes Y millions from appearing in Z rubbish toy advert movies - then goes on to have stretches in rehab, or drink driving bans, or sentences for assaults, or joins a cult. Football isn't perfect by any stretch, but is one place where nearly anyone can make it, all you need is a ball and two feet. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/manchester-citys-gareth-barry-gives-866940
  3. I liked Switzerland a lot. Only had a couple of days, but chuck in Monaco, Modena, Milan, Stelvio and then you got a real trip happening. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/76678-switzerland-road-trip-with-audi-a3-cabrio-tfsi/ Have a look here too. http://www.ultimatedrives.net/top-10-roads/index.php I think I'd like to do Scandinavia next...
  4. You can get puks for next to nowt on Amazon. Read the reviews, all they say is, "no idea if these are good for hockey, but I use them to jack my car up!" http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/cr/B0073UQTMI/ref=mw_dp_cr
  5. I shifted 4kg in a month (started 82.5kg) almost by accident, by simply going for a brisk walk every other day, 5km / 45 mins. I actually started it to sort out an intermittent bad back, but happily shifted some timber too. Now I've seen that work for both my back and my belly, I'm trying to make it a daily thing and be really quite disciplined through the week about not eating rubbish, then have an amnesty at the weekend if I'm out with mates for a drink and the inevitable kebab/pizza. I want to enjoy the finer things from time to time When you look at a day, 45mins is nothing to put to one side and when it's nice and sunny, it's good to go for a wander with some tunes on, zone out, relax, soak up some rays and look less pale . Doesn't cost a penny if you already have comfortable footwear. I think winter will be the test for me...
  6. Before I bought the Zed I rented from Enterprise for about a year, usually in 30-day lumps. The branch I used was good and their up front prices look good, but they do like to take your pants down on insurance. £700 excess unless you pay £12 ish waiver which cuts it down to £100. That's saving you £600 for a claim, so as a long term renter I baulked at the £12 per day as I figured that over any decent length of time, if I managed to not crash/be crashed into more regularly than once every 50 days the £12 wasn't worth it to reduce the excess. Conversely, if I rent one now for a long weekend, I pay the £12 per day, because it's not worth the ball ache and it's only a few days. A colleague had a tyre go pop on his, he dutifully rang the number and they sorted it but took the whole £700 excess and then refunded him £600 about a month later. He could have gone a got a ditchfinder put on himself for next to nowt. I rented last weekend and there was a chap in there who had his rental's windscreen cracked by something off the back of a lorry and they took his entire £700 for the new windscreen By and large, I got a great service and the chance to try loads of different motors. Over the year, I didn't need to claim so I saved roughly £60 a week not getting the excess reduction. Like any point of sale, strap on insurance, it's a pure profit generator so they sh!t you up with numbers like £700!!!!!
  7. Red_Nic generally speaking, it's easy to get caught up in the 'do this' and 'do that' but don't worry too much at first, once you've done it a couple of times you'll get a feel for the products and you'll quickly pick up your own ideas. If you're applying by hand you can't really do anything too wrong, so get stuck in and see what suits you're technique and the conditions you have for detailing. You'll learn fast.
  8. Why would do this, just when I've got a house deposit sorted!!!! Beautiful jaaaaag
  9. Rice isn't wheat based like pasta, that's why Asians who have a rice based diet live long, thin lives (Japanese live longest but that could be down to needing more time to drive quality cars) and Westerners who live on pasta and bread get fat.
  10. Whenever you're hungry, have a 'Tommy Tank'. It'll suppress your hunger and burn calories instead of ingesting them. You feel lighterer on your feet after too. DISCLAIMER: May cause drowsiness and breaching of broadband allowance.
  11. Yes. Nice. I can keep learning about the transition up to and just over the limit but with the ESP on guard just in case. I'm not too worried, I'm more Jenson Button than Lewis Hamilton. Smooth driving FTW!
  12. Nice! Glad you got them sorted in the end, they look absolutely spot on now and you get to keep the brembos too, result. Just need to colour code the lip and BGW and it'll look almost OEM like Tremendous looking Zed you've got there.
  13. Quick idiot question, the Zed is my first torquey RWD car so I've been on a learning curve coming from small engined FF and left the aids well alone. If I'm driving in a spirited fashion and the light isn't flashing, is the power going down in exactly the same way with or without the button depressed, up until the point it actually kicks in to stop me doing something beyond my ability?
  14. They look great, nice choice. I can't get to grips with wheel sizes on account of being a bit dense, what dimensions are these and are there spacers too?
  15. Nice. I want a '70 roadster...
  16. Had a minor clearout in the garage, so got some bits to raise funds for Project X. SPARCO "Settanta" Handbrake Handle, brand new £41 - yours for just £10 + postage of your choice Reason for sale is that I got a Momo instead to match my knob. In the interests of clarity, I have never fitted this in the Zed. This is a geneirc part which will require some modding of your handbrake to make it happen - like any other handbrake handle addition to the zed's fairly nasty handbrake. Do a quick search, guides are out there. http://www.demon-twe...andbrake-handle Thanks for looking. Stu
  17. My late 2011 came with a spindle for the boot drive, so it was great mod getting an SSD in to replace it, worth 50bhp at least But if you've already got one, happy days.
  18. No idea mate. A friend came round and said that it was the cause of the issue, or rather the fan that supports it. It just clicks and chirps all the time, its pretty annoying. Sounds like a squeaky fan CONSTANTLY. Whilst they've got it open, why not pop in an SSD? My authorised apple repair fellow installed a 500GB solid state drive on mine and she rips along nicely, plus you can pop the old drive in a caddy for backup.
  19. Not strictly a before, as I'd already added a stubby, but pretty close! Not strictly after, as I've got a few things left to do...
  20. "Le Tour" effect has gone mental up here. Spent the weekend in North Yorkshire for a wedding, couldn't move for cyclists. I'm a fan to be fair, so I don't mind sharing the road with anyone daft enough to go out there in micro thin lycra for protection and a polystyrene hat, but they were riding 3 and 4 abreast? Really? On back roads not wide enough for two cars all it takes is someone coming the other way on a bend with a high wall or hedgerow - boom, its all over. Even the most basic fans of cycling should know they should be riding in a line into the wind, then taking turns at the front
  21. I'm confused about how replacing that stops the regulator rattle?
