  1. the north is anywhere where people talk funny. which is strange because this means that somerset is also in the north. Alternatively, drive up the M1 towing a car on a trailer. the north starts as soon as the car is nicked.
  2. https://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/infosheets/LVVTA_Info_01-2009_V2_Tyre_Size_to_Wheel_Size_Compatibility_Guide.pdf page 5 suggests a 8.5-9.5 width for the fronts, 9.5-10.5 width for the back. not sure of offsets though. are the tyres already on the car? in which case, take off the wheels and see what sizes they are, and how they look?
  3. as with the case of any car, try and have some money set aside for repairs should they worst happen. Also, stop reading internet forums, you only hear the bad stories. just before I bought my BMW 335i a couple of years back I read all the horror stories about high pressure fuel pumps and costly turbo wastegate repairs.... decided to mainly ignore these and bought one anyways - did 20,000 miles with no problems before selling it.
  4. a lot of the fun has gone out of trying to drive quickly on public roads for me, I leave that for trackdays - not only because only on a track can you actually push a car to 100% of your ability (100% braking force, and 100% cornering force, which would be hugely irresponsible on a public road). but also because you're sharing the track with other like minded enthusiasts - as opposed to on the road, where it feels like you're battling with endless swarms of slow cars, poor sightlines, tractors, caravans etc etc... just get a track car, get on track and drive how you want to drive. if you pick the right track like Cadwell Park or Oulton Park, its pretty much like a pleasant A road through parkland, except with no speed limit. And on a trackday we can do 200 miles in a day quite easily, try finding anywhere in the UK where you can drive flat out for 200 miles - the wilds of Scotland might have some longish stretches, but eventually you'll get stuck behind something.
  5. wait, what were stages 2 and 3? i released the hypno drones then it all changed and my cash was taken away from me... i assumed that was the beginning of stage two? anyways, without copious amounts of cash rolling in i lost interest after that lol
  6. fair enough, still a way to go then! might leave it running overnight, that should get it going
  7. does it stop at 1,000,000 clips? cos i'm currently on 100,000 with no sign of slowing down lol also, does it save progress? cos... i have other things i need to do lol
  8. Check out Rimtuck if you havent already, hundreds of pics of zeds with wheel and tyre widths stated. http://rimtuck.com/search/thumbnails&make=Nissan&model=350Z
  9. ooh could I become a transporter, from the film 'The Transporter'? essentially getting paid large amounts of money to courier stuff around Europe in a 7 series or similar (I'd avoid the kung fu element though) or a slightly more attainable dream - ultimate airport transfers - buy a Ferrari FF or other 4 seat super GT car, and spend my days doing the 4am airport run with well to do business types.
  10. hmm, well, probably go racing! start a race team/buy my way into a seat in blancpain endurance/GT class racing. Cant imagine a better way to spend my time than travelling all over the world, driving the best racecars on the best racetracks. yep, that'd be the life for me! would need quite a large life changing sum of money though...
  11. to be honest I found the cobra resonated exhaust was just about perfect as it was - after a blast to get the exhaust hot I'd just sit there revving it and enjoying the crackles it made
  12. this is looking epic! keep us posted what trackdays you decide to do, would love to come along and see how quick it is (probably very)
  13. i am indeed, normally just ask people to pay their way with tyres and brakes. though the next 3 trackdays I have planned I have takers already, and then over the winter I'm planning on a switch to a BMW Z4 3.0, so my views on letting other people drive and how much I charge may change a bit.
  14. got a few trackdays planned in the coming months, Blyton end of September, then Donington in October and Silverstone in November. haven't done Mallory for a long time, was the first trackday I ever did about 5 years ago now. sure you'll have a blast. to be honest weather in this country can do anything at any time - the only guarantee in December is that the sun setting will call time about 4pm.
  15. think I had mine set right at the limit, 6600rpm, meaning essentially it never came on. not being used to having a shift light before, I found it a lot more of a distraction than an aid. also, normally red flashing lights on a dashboard are bad news - my first thought when I saw it flash was 'what has gone wrong with the car?!?'
  16. 4 - 6- 4 across the tyre would suggest a pressure issue, specifically too low a pressure meaning the shoulders are wearing faster than the middle. what tyre pressures are you running? perhaps try them a few psi over normal to even the wear. if the toe or camber is out I'd expect to see massively increased wear on one side - ie a tyre looks new across the majority of the thread, but then the inside shoulder normally is completely worn smooth.
  17. what mileage/type of journeys will you be doing? if its 4 hrs motorway driving, then definitely diesel. any increase in VED will be negligible compared to savings on fuel. if its stop start short distances round town, then a small petrol. and if you're only spending £1500 max then resale isn't really a concern, you'll be running it till it breaks and then scrapping it most likely.
  18. well, the jet fighter canopy is the route I wish they'd have taken - then actually F1 would have a USP of bring the only open wheeled, closed cockpit racing series, and they look cool. but I suppose they now have the USP of the only thong racing series... bring back the nose probes on the front wing and watch the Ann Summers sponsorship roll in!
  19. BOOOO well this sucks balls. the first year i'll be going to Le Mans and there probably wont be an LMP1 category. certainly cant see any other manufacturers stepping up now that everyone else is pulling out. I must say what with Mercedes pulling out of DTM and BMW and Audi likely to follow, that'll be the end of DTM as well. Formula E better turn into something that's ruddy amazing, the amount of manufacturers tripping over themselves to sign up. On the plus side, the GTE class in the WEC is looking stronger than ever, with BMW announcing an entry alongside Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Corvette and Ford.
  20. well 350zs are also at a price point where they can be bought and modified by younger people - 370zs are still quite a premium, less likely to be bought by younger people and less likely to be modified. Also a lot of 370z owners on here have stepped up from a 350z, I bet there are a lot of middle aged folk who have only bought a 370z and have no inclination to get on an internet forum and talk about it.
  21. well this will surely divide opinion... official verdict is that the halo/flipflop/thong will be introduced on all cars in 2018 https://www.topgear.com/car-news/formula-one/deal-it-formula-1-adopting-halo you can probably tell by my use of nicknames that I don't like it... looks awful and not sure the sport needs it in the first place - its kinda a given that racing at 200mph+ is dangerous and will shorten your life expectancy. If they absolutely had to have head protection then I'd have preferred to see a full jet fighter style canopy, something like the below. still undoubtedly a formula 1 car, but something I could look at without thinking flip flop all the time.
  22. well car survived, despite a couple of spins on the exit of the tarzan hairpin (not by me I might add) and a drop of rain just after lunch. turns out my comedy 'Caution - parts may fall off' decal I put on the rear turned out to be accurate - the left front indicator decided to pop out whilst doing 100mph on the banking - and took the wing mirror glass out as well on its way past. overall car was handling well - tried a slightly higher rear tyre pressure as have been having problems with understeer at other circuits, but just increasing the rears by 2psi led to power oversteer, which I've never had on the track tyres! also, managed to get myself black flagged for drifting... darn tarzan is just too tempting to slide on the exit, although accidentally sliding on entry as well probably didn't help. Photos from the day here: http://www.motorsportinfocus.co.uk/2017-events/rockingham-160717/?sub=087c1ccaac8e199067f5cd8a575ba81c next up is Bedford in 3 weeks time - if I manage to get oversteer there i'll know the rear tyres may have had enough, as last time I was there in april the rear was locked solid, but it does seem more likely to slide on a right corner, whereas all the hairpins at Bedford turn left.
  23. Just booked on to this trackday with the beemer, the organiser is MSVT. Anyone else fancy coming along? hoping for sun as usual, but Bedford has so much run off I don't mind a bit of rain.
  24. we're actively avoiding it lol a mate lives just down the road from Silverstone, we've got a trackday at rockingham on sunday but will be avoiding the A43 like the plague lol. but will certainly watch the race on catch up in the evening most likely.
  25. take the wheel off, the offset will be clearly stamped into the rear somewhere. it'll be a number with ET in front of it, ie ET15. then we'll know for sure and can advise on the best spacer to run.
