  1. I'm sure that if the cameraman had zoomed in close, we would have seen Keyser and Buster in there somewhere.....
  2. What does he mean? Can someone tell me where the batteries go? I dare not, it's my work compooter! There is a very good range of hand tools, spanners, etc made in the USA by a company called King Dick. So far, at work, I have never tried to access their web site
  3. Type Jack Rabbit into your favourite search engine....... What does he mean? Can someone tell me where the batteries go?
  4. I don't know about the practicality, but a bigger diameter steering wheel would make the steering lighter, it would have a longer lever effect. Steve
  5. There is a specialised shaving supplies company in my home city of Sheffield. I'm led to believe that it's at the top end of the market. Here is a link, fwiw. Obviously I have no interest whatsoever in the company. http://www.theenglishshavingcompany.com/ Steve
  6. Does anyone know if this is actually correct? Steve
  7. Am I the only one who absolutely objects to auto renewals? Just who do the insurance companies think that they are making the assumption that we will want to remain with them for another year at a probably inflated price? I'm so serious that I think it should be illegal! Steve
  8. I backed two horses and now both of them are dead............. How lucky is that?
  9. He'll aslo need to send you the sort code, account number, card start and end dates and the 3 figure security number on the back!
  10. I can spend a full day in The National Railway Museum anytime. Last time I was there it was totally free entry, and a Yorkshireman likes that! Take a ride on The North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Get there early and buy a ticket from Pickering right into Whitby, fabulous.... Steve
  11. I've just had another think on this one. If you have flattened your battery, and that's all you've done, then properly bump starting the car should do no harm. The first time a piston hits TDC, the engine should start in exactly the same way as it would have done using it's own starter motor and battery. However, if the car will not start on it's battery and you have cranked and cranked in hope until the battery is flat, then attempting to bump start it would not be a good idea. Ten to one it will still not start and you are pushing unburnt fuel through the cat. Then again, cranking a car that will not start also pushes unburnt fuel through the cat, so what's the difference? Steve
  12. I can't see any problem with JUMP starting. I can see a problem with BUMP starting. Steve
  13. Because of my superb timing, both of my cars need taxing at the end of this month. Does anyone know whether I will pay the old tax or the new one? Steve
  14. Even David Blunkett must be able to see that! The component, fitted conventionally, is designed to flex upwards when loaded, the one in the pic will tend to flex forwards and due to its cross sectional shape will be much stiffer. The round bars transmitting the load don't look big enough for the job either.
  15. Isn't it something to do with the broadest backs carrying the heavyest burden?
  16. You would not do this to your dog, but you have to watch your parents suffer. From the report I listened to this morning, it seems that the guy is so paralised that there is no point in him even going to Switzerland. Even there, you have to be able to take the fatal substance which is offered to you. Steve
  17. In my case, at under £205, I don't consider that it is expensive....... The next lowest quote, interestingly, was for £302 Steve
  18. This is Mr Rice, what do you think? I have a steep drive and a very agressive lawn? I've always loved the Pajero's but the insurance is fricking loopy........got a quote for a Mitsi Pinin (not a Pajero granted) worth £700.......insurance £1200!!!!!!!! Thats £700 more than the Z4 or £600 than the modded 350! Strangely enough, I've just shopped around for insurance on my 2.8 LWB diesel Exceed. Just under £205 fully comp and protected NCB. Mileage limitted to 4000/year.
  19. Don't discount the Mitzi Pajeros, cheap as chips, well speced and rock solid. Expect 23 MPG from a long wheel based 2.8 auto, 28ish if you can find a rare manual.
  20. I've never been on a track and probably never will do, but I can answer the above questions from an engineering/science angle. "Energy can be neither created nor destroyed, it can only be converted from one form to another" On a level surface a moving car possesses kinetic energy by virtue of it's mass (weight) and velocity (speed) To slow the car down, this kinetic energy needs to be converted into heat energy by the braking system. Whichever braking technique you use, to slow from one speed to another will produce exactly the same amount of heat. The disks (now rotors?) are designed to dissipate this heat to the atmosphere quickly and therefore maintain a cool working temperature. This will start to happpen as soon as any heat is generated. This means that the heat build up will be minimised by applying the brakes over a longer time period. Steve
  21. Shame that you are so far away Last week in July and the first in August sounds good......
  22. I've drilled loads of these out in my time, but I have alwars used a pillar drill as opposed to a hand drill. You can see from the earlier photo of the new nipples how they work. The conical tip fits into a matching cone in the caliper and seals the fluid. The danger of the drilling out is if you happen to catch the female cone with the tip of the drill bit. The male cone can no longer seal and you have a big problem. I'm guessing that this is the cause of your local garage's reluctance to tackle this job. Steve
  23. I guess that you are referring to your students here
