  1. I've just used confused.com to get prices for an £11,550 350Z. No mods, 20+ years NCB, 3000 miles restriction, 250 excess, protected NCB, courtesy car, driveway parked, me and my spouse only to drive. Elephant, Bell, Admiral and Diamond all came in at between £372 and £380. BIG downside is, you have to declare your age at 61 !! As a direct comparison, the best quote on my current car, a UK MR2, was from AXA and was £149.69 Other than insuring cars, can anyone see another advantage to being 61? Steve
  2. Brake a little earlier and a little lighter at The Owler Bar Roundabout, Roo
  3. The night time ones are the ones by Meadowhell Retail Centre, a much loved local landmark, now sadly no more, and affectionately known locally as Salt & Pepper. I work within a mile of where they once stood. Any structural engineer worth his salt will not drive over that viaduct, iffy to say the least and they have never had all the lanes open like it was intended to be. Before our dear ex-pm, Maggie, that area was all heavy industry with a job for everyone who wanted one. Now it's jobs for shop assistants. Steve
  4. I've also never lost a single day's work in my life. I drove to work in 21" last winter but very few turned up, normal cars could just not handle the depth. We need full teams to be able to function so I was sent home and paid for the day. No work = no wages has always seemed fair to me. Nobody has ever been snowed out of a pub!
  5. You have reaaly described the symptoms of a knackered battery very well. I have never owned or tried the portable jump starter/battery charger things, but I don't have a lot of faith in something so small. Soooooo........... Buy a new battery for the Clio, or remove the battery from the Z, put it in the Clio's boot, and carry a set of jump leads.
  6. And I couldn't agree more! I regard it in the same manner as I regard not pronouncing the "t" in certain words.
  7. You really need one of those terrier type dogs that continually shivers, they must change hands for a fortune. They have even been known to get me, a born and bred Yorkshireman, to put my hand in my pocket. I did, however, pop into the local convenience store and buy a tin of dogmeat. The dog just might have been fed it!
  8. So you want Mr Redknapp to sent to the tower then? S. Don't fall into the trap of confusing tax avoidance with tax evasion. The former is legal, the latter is not!
  9. The news programme that I saw this on said that 40,000 families would be affected by the £26,000 cap. I ask ya, 40,000 families claiming more than £26,000 a year!!!! The difficulty that I have is that I don't believe that kids should suffer as a result of their parents actions.
  10. Thanks for the link, TomS, that's where I got my 42 max. in a 30 zone from.
  11. Now my understanding is that the course is for "mild" speeding offences only. I'm at work ATM so don't have my paperwork with me, but I recall that 42 in a 30 zone was the most you could be doing and still be offered the course. maybe the rules are applied very differently depending which police authority you are in.
  12. There is a requirement to "actively participate" in the course...... If you have had no speeding convictions in the last 3 years, at 83 mph you should be offered the option of being reprogrammed. Does that mean a visit to Abbey Nice one, Wesmin, get the car permanently locked into valet mode.

  14. 167 forum members have taken part in the poll........ I don't have a Z yet. I cast my vote in anticipation of buying one soon.
  15. FOGL looks like its worth a £1500 to £2000 punt. Where's the best place cost wise to do the buying deal?
  16. I'm making a BIG assumption here. I'm assuming that the thermometer is supposed to tell you the temperature outside the car. If that's the case, there will be a sensor somewhere outside the car which feeds the temperature to the indicating gauge. The fault most likely lies with the sensor, so don't go rushing headlong into a replacement gauge.
  17. Any postings that contain the phrase "da whip"
  18. The figure that I heard on Radio 4 this morning was a bill of £2 billion/year for these spurious claims which works out at £90/policy. Now I do believe that if you are damaged by someone's actions then you are entitlesd to be compensated for it. I also know that genuine whiplash is lifechanging, just ask my wife. But £90/policy seems a bit much.

  20. Trust me, Vic, it really is one of the very few benefits of being older!!

  22. I've never shrunk since I was 40, in fact I've rather expanded I wonder if the future statistics will show that the generally younger age of z drivers results in a bigger number of insurance claims and, hence, bigger premiums for the cars?

  24. I've voted in this poll, but it's not the fairest poll that I've ever seen. I guess that you are allowed a fixed maximum number of categories (bins) and the setter of the poll has divided up the age range according to this. Usually, you would look at the length of the bars and see the most popular category as the longest bar. These categories do not all cover the same number of years of age, the most unfair being the open ended 60+. Still, it's better than nothing and with a bit of adding up, some sense can be made of it.
