  1. I'm just in the last week of a four week trip. Six of us went to the Le Mans test day then on through Burgundy to Annecy on a Jackal recommended route, did the Furka pass on the first day of opening. Susten and Grimsel were closed. Other passes were the St. Gotthard, the Oberlap, the Stelvio, the Petite and Grand St. Bernard, the Route de Napoleon, the Gorge du Verdon. At the moment I'm near St. Tropez and will be working my way homeward next week. The Stelvio was the most disappointing for us going up. Packed with every conceivable vehicle. But it was Saturday. Going down was curiously empty. Maybe they were having a siesta. As there were 6 of us initially our hotels were chosen and booked in February. The others went home after 9 days but my wife flew out to join me and we just book our hotels from day to day using Booking.com or the Auberge and Logis guide. No problems so far. It's been a great trip and the Zed with 95k miles on it has performed flawlessly (touch wood).
  2. I have 4 standard ones without tyres if you want to pm me.
  3. Will do. We'll be the the Alps region between the 12th and 17th of June after taking in the test day at Le Mans. I also have a black Zed but will be with a group of 5 others including a GTR, a 911 Turbo, a RS4, a supercharged Elise and a Monaro. With respect to comments made by others about the legality of use in Europe as long as it broadcasts on a pmr446 frequency like the Cobra MT975s, they are legal in Europe.
  4. Our group has bought Cobra MT975 for an Alpine road trip in 2 weeks time. They're said to be pretty good but I have no personal experience of them. Will give an up-date in July for anyone else who is considering going but will be too late for you.
  5. Very helpful. Cheers. Think I'll give it a miss as a DIY job.
  6. So, just to make sure I understand this, you can only check the chain tensioners by partly dismantling the engine to see whether or not they are within the limits you mentioned.
  7. Hi Alex, Is the cylindrical device with the pin at the back next to the dipstick then chain tensioner? If it is and judging by the measurements you have given, it looks to me that this might be on it's limit. Difficult to say for sure I appreciate but a guesstimate would be useful.
  8. When you're not on corporate welfare like me, what will you do?
  9. I use a garage near Cromer for jobs I don't do myself. They're not Zed specialists but they know their stuff and are very good. PM me for details if you want.
  10. Don't waste your money on a fancy brush. A toilet brush is just the job.
  11. Hhhhhmmm. Think I'll change them. PM on it's way Alex.
  12. In preparation for an EVO triangle tour and a 3500 mile European tour this summer, I checked the pads on the rear brakes. They appear to have at least 4mm material on them. As I can't remember how thick new ones are from when I changed the fronts last year, I'm uncertain whether or not they really need changing. Any thoughts?

  15. If you had purchased £1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have £49.00 today. If you had purchased £1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have £33.00 today. If you had purchased £1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have £0.00 today. If you had purchased £1,000 of shares in Northern Rock three years ago, you would have £0.00 today. But, if you had purchased £1,000 worth of beer one year ago at ASDA, drank it all, then taken the aluminium cans to the scrap metal dealer, you would have received £214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. And then.......................... A recent study found that the average Briton walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Britons drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that, on average, Britons get about 41 miles to the gallon! Makes you proud to be British.

If you're only driving it remotely quickly then you'll have no problems sticking to the limits, will you? 2. Speeding tickets are not inevitable, they are all avoidable very easily. 3. If you are struggling to keep to the limits then you're possibly the worst driver I've ever come across. Ekona Honorary Z Member Ex Team Member 6,801 posts Posted 04 October 2012 - 18:07 Lands End to John O'Groats in one day, then tour the Highlands. Isle of Man, just all of it. Best driving roads anywhere IMHO, those two. HHHhhhhmmm. You're right. I probably don't drive properly otherwise I wouldn't get 28mpg.
  17. +1 - only way forward if you want to find the zeds limits and truly discover the zed face ache Do you tell your insurance company?
  18. As speed limits come down due to the activities of organisations like BRAKE, it begs the question of why own a powerful car that only gets 28mpg unless you're going to track it or show off your engine in some car park. Might as well buy one of these.
  19. Lovely new Nissan GTR. Makes a very pleasant change from all the Micras usually seen around.
  20. Nevertheless, I'm inclined to leave it unless there could be potential damage. I can put up with the occasional click
  21. I ran this by my independent the other day and he said that in all probability in the process of tightening the nuts on the half shaft up all you are doing is taking some pre-load out of the diff. You might be lucky or you could wind up with a seized diff he said. I decided to let well enough alone.
  22. I fancy this one but looks like they are a bit oversubscribed at the moment. http://www.petrolheadnirvana.com/torque ... php?t=2576
  23. I should have a driver's side one coming up shortly. PM me for details.
  24. Guy up the road has a new Jaguar XKR-S, new price £103k. For that money I'd have a GTR for £20k less and better performance. Can't speak for depreciation and running costs though, but it seems a fairer comparison than to compare it to a 350.
