  1. Although the season on the track may be boring and predictable, the politics and high drama away from the track make for something to keep an eye on. Specifically, the investigation into Mr. Ecclestone for alleged bribery payments and the rumour that News Corp is interested in taking over F1 following the demise of Mr. Ecclestone. Well, that was a little while before their current preoccupations.
  2. When are you crossing and how? Where are you camping / staying? We're arriving Wednesday and staying on Maison Blanche.
  3. Bit longer if you do the full monty and take the caliper off, remove the disc, angle grind off the ridges, and score the disc for bedding in. And don't forget to swap the shims from the old pads - like I did.
  4. Last time I was there: 83 mph Motorways 66 mph dual carriageways 56 mph single carriageways Don't know about the fines and hope not to find out.
  5. I found this one on E-bay but to cover both ends, seems like you need two. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vehicle-Car-IR-LE ... 27ba83b478 Could you let me know where you got the all singing all dancing one from? Or was it this one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Taxi-CAR-CCTV-DVR ... 33677af8a4

  7. All this is making me think about driving mine less before my European trip in 3 weeks time. Don't want some silly t@!t doing the same to mine!! Will take the KA to Morrisons this am.
  8. I just checked my brake pads in advance of some European touring specifically the Alps. I only checked the offside front but the thinnest pad was down to about 3-4mm. Does anyone know how thick the original pad material is? I don't want to change them unnecessarily but on the other hand I don't want to hear any brake screeching coming down from the Col du Turini.
  9. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I appreciate what you said about insurance companies though. It's not about just price; it's about how you're treated when things go belly up.
  10. Spoke to Oileman and bought Silkolene Pro S 5W-40 instead of previously used 5W-30. Going down sauff this summer where it's ot
  11. Motorists have occasionally reported similar things when they drove past a secret government listening / spy station near us. Urban myth??
  12. Try this one. http://www.trackapartner.com/
  13. If anyone has avoided paying tax by illegal means and HMRC have not enforced the law upon these people, then yes, I do include them. Anyone who avoids tax rather than evades tax is not acting illegally, they are just navigating an over complex system to their advantage. I also believe the tax system is massively too complex. It benefits those who can afford accountants and advisors to assist in them paying as little tax as possible, while remaining fully legal, and I do think it unfair that those who dont have the benefit of these advisors get shafted due to an overly complex tax system. So, "avoidance" of millions of £s of tax liability by those who can is morally acceptable then?

So you would agree that the government should get it's act together and crack down on tax avoiders? Im not taking my cars off the road to avoid paying tax thats supporting undesireables, as you twisted it, Im taking them off the road as I find the system unfair and overly harsh toward the motorist. Also, knowing three tenths of chuff all about me, I'd question whether you are in a position to accuse me of being pompus? Ive had days where Ive been to the cash point after pay day and still found it a few hundred overdrawn with the £500 limit looming. Ive also been jobless too, I was qualified to work in a senior IT position, yet I found myself stacking beans at Tesco for a few years to make ends meet. SUre, not as harsh a situation as some people find themselves in, but what I didn't do on those days was point the finger at those better off than me and saying how unfair the system was. So, why gripe about those worse off than you? Why not those who should pay but dont't? those worse off, i guess you are referring to the chav ridden estates that chesterfield mentioned. I agree with chesterfield. There is junkies and scroungers on the dole getting free money which I worked to earn. The first thing i would do is stop free drugs (methandone etc) for the junkies, stop their benefits and force them to work. Its far too easy to scrounge of the system and these scumbags are screwing it well and truly. Presumably you're also including the UK banks that received £850bn in 2008 in the form of direct loans, guarantees and liquidity support and have yet to do much for the British business sector other than continue to pay themselves large bonuses.

  16. Presumably you also include those like Topshop, Vodafone, Barclays, Boots and others allegedly avoiding paying their proper taxes, not to mention all those millionaires and billionaires off-shoring their riches in various tax havens around the world. The words "noses and faces" leap to mind when you say that you'll take most of your cars off the road and just drive cheap ones in order to avoid supporting those you define as "undesirables". Just hope with all your pomposity, you never find yourself unemployed and with no hope. I've have. Been there, done that, got the tee-shirt.
  17. According to the FT commodity markets index, crude has gone up nearly 45% in the last year. The higher it goes, the more the government makes AND the more oil companies make.
  18. So its; 1. Cattle class flight at 7 in the morning meaning we need to be up around 4am.........arriving in Germany at 10.15am. 2. Spend several hours negotiating with an Avis representative Steve Martin style until she agrees to give us an inspiring 1.4 Polo. 3. Drive 2 hours to Black Forest. 4. Be inspired by the awesomeness of the 83bhp Polo 5. Drive 2 hours on a deadline to airport again to catch a 19.50pm flight back to UK 6. Drive home/sit in vomit infested taxi for 30 mins. Or; 1. Leisurely rise at around 10am whatever day we fancy .........have a bit of a scratch. 2. Drive to Dover (4/5 hours - pretty grueling for my back ) 3. Hope ferry avoids Lexx learning to drive 4. Stay over in France or somewhere for a night. 5. Drive on to Germany 6. Be thrilled by the pure awesomeness of the Zed 7. Eat some Gateaux 8. Leisurely drive back to UK. 9. Catch ferry - watch Martinmac beating Lexx with a fish for scuppering their ship. 10. Either stay somewhere daaaaaan saaaaff for a night or drive home (doubt my back will deal with that). 11. Get home relaxed, satisfied and vomit smell free. Hmmmm.......seems like it makes too much sense. What am I missing? (aside from the obvious 'Severance' style crazed ex soviet soldiers who were subjected to experiments and now live in the backwaters of Germany just waiting for an unsuspecting Zed driver to come along to be bummed in the gob). Brilliant! Sums up so well the virtues of Zed driving compared to any other form of travel.
  19. Me neither. I tried mine this morning in all gears between 1000 and 2000 including 6th and no problemas
  20. Uuh Oh. Fears over Turkish coup plot probe From today's Financial Times
  21. I suppose the potential harm is not the load, but the engine rpm while there isn't any oil in the engine bearings and around the camshafts.
  22. I raised this question when I first got mine last August but got responses similar to the above. I still don't like this aspect of the car though. Common sense would seem to indicate it is totally unnecessary to rev up to 2000 rpm when all the oil is lying cold in the sump. I have managed to get round it a bit by hitting the starter switch enough to turn it over a couple of times without starting and then starting it. The rev up seems to only hit about 1600 rpm. A bit more satisfactory.
  23. I'll watch the first one to see if I can stay awake. Otherwise, I'll come back when Bernie decides to put oil, water, etc. on the track(s)
  24. So I presume they are for racing really? I am not adverse to paying extra for tyres... that is the whole point. My pockets are a little shallow at the mo due to my DBA/DS2500 upgrade all round. So I need to justify the extra cost of the PS2's over the VUS. I don't push the car THAT hard... Im thinking the PS2's might be over kill for a weekend car that I don't push too hard... +1 I just put Vredesteins on mine and am very happy with them. Time will tell on how long they last. Think my driving style and use roughly corresponds with yours from what you say.
