  1. A couple of times recently when I haven't started the Zed for awhile (7 - 10 days), the engine appears not to be running on a couple of cylinders and this is accompanied by a rattle when I start it. Left at idle speed, it clears out after perhaps a minute or two and the rattle disappears. I would guess the rattle is hydraulic valve lifters. The oil pressure is good at about 60psi. When it gets over this little hiccup, everything is fine. Engine quiet as a church mouse with smooth acceleration. The car has had a full service history at Nissans so I'm presuming that the plugs have been changed sometime before I bought it. Current mileage is 77k. Finally on both occasions it occurred after I washed the car and put it away in the garage. I'm sure there is no connection - just paranoia. Any ideas??
  2. Didn't know this, but thank god! I'm assuming then that they're promoting the T1-Sport as their new sporty tyre then, which from the tread pattern alone looks to be a much improved design. Not quite available in Zed sizes, but I'd happily run 225/40/18 and 245/40/18 on the car. So, Dan, can you run 40's instead of 45's. I think I saw the Vredesteins that I'm after available in 225 x 40 x 18s. Would the ride be harsher because of the narrower profile? Presumably it's not ok to run 45s rear and 40s front. Think I saw the answer to that question somewhere else and it was a no no. Jack
  3. Hi I read all 18 pages and would like to get some Vredesteins as they seem the best value for the money. Sadly, no can do at the moment. My tyre supplier is trying to flog me Yokohama Advansports. Anyone know about these? They say they're Y rated, have a harder compound and will outwear other brands and that Yokohamas are/were supplied as original equipment tyres on 350Zs. Hhhhhmmm? I'm not concerned about track performance but would like good roadholding particularly in the wet and improved ride. Currently the car has 040s front and 050s rear.
  4. Seaton Carew. Makes my blood run cold. Got my car and all the tools nicked there once. Hope he didn't stop.
  5. Nissan quoted £342 for new ones. SGS quoted £37ish for a re-gas and £67ish for new ones. Got mine re-gassed and back in 6 days. Seem to work fine. Well done to SGS. What's wrong with Nissan???
  6. I got a quote from Admiral, admittedly not a multi-car policy, but for an 05 standard GT, garaged all the time - £579.21. I am 66 and have proven 9 years NCB driving less than 8k miles per year. In the end, I went with SAGA because they're there when you need them. All I've heard about Admiral is how cheap they are.
  7. Great hobby. I'm sure you'll love it. Here was mine at Lubbock, Texas 1966. A Hornet Marauder, made in Texas, with 2 Westbend 125cc engines, 3 carburetors on each running on a nitro methane fuel mixture. Brakes hydraulic, finned magnesium alloy front and twin discs rear. Two 6.5 gallon fuel tanks. Top speed on this circuit ( over 5 miles long) was 142 mph and I wasn't the fastest. ]
  8. Anyone ever claimed off Admiral and how did that go?
  9. Fantastic and frustrating game. I bowl a couple of times a week. Would be great to find some more bowlers up here. Just lost a team on our Tuesday league.
  10. Well, Ricey, if you can cancel the booking I'd say go for it. We're going to Italy from Le Mans this year. If you've not been driving on the Continent before, you do need to drive defensively until you get familiar with each country's customs. Particulary in Belgium where they still have "priorite a droite" in the towns, which means that even though you are on what appears to be a main road, drivers coming from your right at an intersection have the right of way and can go straight through in front of you. Last year we drove 3300 miles to Portugal and back and the only time I nearly got nailed was when some jerk pulled out of a slip road and nearly squeezed me between himself and a car overtaking me in the middle lane on the M20. Finally, I spent 15 years working at least 6 months of the year in Europe and I can honestly say that I found the standard of driving no better or worse than here. Go for it and enjoy. P.S. We go to Brussels fairly often and can easily make that in a day from Cromer, Norfolk
  11. Guess you know what to do. Shut up and pay up
  12. Know exactly what you mean!!!
  13. This relates to a previous thread about petrol prices. While I had some sympathy with contributors who complained about the tax on petrol, I noted that not many had much venom for the oil companies, who while they say they only make 2 or 3 pence per gallon on sales, manage to show eye watering profits at the end of each quarter. The other group I think deserves attention are commodity traders who gamble on oil and other everyday essentials forcing up the price of everything you and I buy. What can we do? Well, I received a circular e-mail you might be interested in. This email has been passed to me in Hexham, where we are paying £139.9 a > litre for diesel and heading towards £1.50 per litre. So here's the idea: > > It makes much more sense than the 'don't buy ANY petrol on a certain day' > campaign last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that > because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to > buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem > for them. But here's a plan that could really work. > > For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest > oil companies (which now are one) i.e. ESSO and BP. > > > If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their > prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to > follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach millions of Esso and > BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! > > I am sending this note to a lot of people. If all of you send it to at > least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)....and those 300 send it to at least ten > more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on. By the time the message reaches the > sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION > consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten > friends each, then we've deprived Esso/BP of 30 million customers > > If each of us forwards this email out to ten more people within one day of > receipt, all 30 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the > next 7 > days!!! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to > you, please pass this message on. > > PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES It's easy to make > thishappen. Just forward this email, and - if you have a choice - buy your > petrol/diesel atShell,Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. Boycott > BP andEsso
  14. Absolutely right. Couldn't agree more. When have we never moaned about petrol prices?
  15. Not sure the moderators will allow this because of the language but here goes
  16. Hi Welcome to the forum. I would be a bit careful on this one, esp. with the noisy release bearing. What is the freeplay like, ie. the free travel until the pedal meets resistance? My clutch is a bit firmer (than the KA, for sure) but the grab is probably about a third of the way off the floor.
  17. Well I can highly recommend my local independent although I haven't had to have much work done on mine, it has to be said. I believe they also look after another Zed in the village. PM me for details if you're interested.
  18. I'm getting around to booking but will not be staying on the course. I'll be booking a grandstand ticket. Advice on other forums says Dunlop Bridge and Tetre Rouge are the best ones. The agent has advised ones opposite the pits. Is she: a. right or b. trying to unload difficult and expensive seats?
  19. Possibly a stupid question - If it's not misfiring, why plugs esp. if there is no performance increase?
  20. I'm getting closer to the idea of going but using it as a via. point on our way to Italy. From the general tone of this and other threads, it would seem that sites inside the track are for non-stop boozing and partying. As a recent inductee into the class of OAPs, I think those days are behind me. Certainly they are for the wife. Does anyone know of any cheap sites or other accomodation nearby and how easy would it be to get to the track and out again from them?
  21. Got a quote from Admiral, price . Checked out some insurance review websites and found service Members experience?
  22. Agreed. I got 27 on the last fill up. Normally 24-25.
  23. I haven't had mine longer than to do oil, all the filtres and belts which I did myself. Anything more complicated I probably would take it to a very good garage here in the village. But another interesting fact I discovered yesterday is if you have breakdown insurance esp. breakdown warranty and need to use it, you may not be covered if you DIY
  24. Hi. Welcome to the forum. Couldn't agree more with you about buying a standard car.
