  1. True enough Ricky. I was at Silverstone Historic racing last weekend and a lot of the drivers looked "historic" if not "vintage" and damn good drivers they were.
  2. If I was buying a Zed again, I would have had this one in a shot. I think the seller was robbed but if he was happy, that's all that matters. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/102479-the-time-has-come-to-sell-my-pride-and-joy/
  3. HHHhhhhmmm, seems a bit high. I paid £9k for mine back in 2010 with nearly 70k miles on it. I never had any problems with it just did servicing and replaced consumables, plugs, pads, tyres, wipers, aux. belts. Bodywork was good having had the front bumper resprayed and dents in the doors pulled. Eventually had to accept a low trade-in price for it of £5k with 97k miles on it when the market for Zeds was depressed in 2013. Then, similar cars were fetching £6-7k. GLWS though. Maybe the market is right for you.
  4. The thought did occur to me that perhaps all the "migrants" fleeing northwards to a better life might not appreciate a couple of boys on a jolly in a sports car flying by going the other way. But then they'll probably be huddled around campfires under the bridges you're driving over and won't hotice.
  5. Much as I hate to agree with my old buddy Dan, I think that for the most part, he has hit the nail on the head. Although I think for £100 per night in a hotel is a bit OTT. Most of our trips resulted in hotel costs of around £40 - £60 per night. We're in Spain just now and last night we stayed in a reasonable hotel for 58 euros, 12 of which was a 3 course dinner with a full bottle of wine. The most we spent was 113 euros for dinner, hotel and breakfast in a modern hotel in Jaca on the first night. My June trip to Spain for 14 days cost me £2,243.76 for absolutely everything including fuel for a GTR.
  6. I don't quite understand the per person price being the same. Hotels charge by the room not the person. Ferries and the Eurotunnel charge by the car not the number of passengers. To me the per person pricing looks like a license to print money and a rip off. Sure a small margin perhaps for the extra person to include things like breakfasts or dinners if included would be ok. Doing it that way would make organised tours much more attractive to the average punter like me. Until things change which they probably won't, I and my friends will continue to do our own thing. I am currently on my fourth road trip this summer and for the price of one Petrolhead Nirvana tour I have probably done two. So it's worth considering unless you have loooaads a money to throw around.
  7. Doing it on your own - a fraction of the cost. Running a business doing it. Loooaaaadds a money. One idea might be to tailor it for those on a more limited budget and take less margin on each trip but in the long term attract more customers.
  8. Don't need anything like £4k if you plan and do it yourself or with a small group. You could cut the costs by at least half.
  9. Can't help you on the oh's time off but in my experience the cost of say doing the Black Forest is not more expensive and in some cases cheaper than doing the Highlands. Depends on where you live in the UK of course. I put together this little video of my June trip and am very much looking forward to the re-visit next week. Note the lack of cars and no speed vans or cameras. Not saying there aren't any but.....
  10. Yes, what did it all cost? And was the return via. Brittany Ferries?
  11. I would be interested if you ever organise another one in Europe.
  12. Most of the photos are the Spanish Pyrenees and Picos de Europa. The others are the Black Forest and of course the Alps. Two of us are doing the Pyrenees and the Picos again next week but on some different roads.
  13. Excerpts from 3 European trips so far this year. Having done road trips to Scotland and Wales, I don’t think I would ever do them again. Europe offers fantastic scenery and great roads and tours can often be done for the same or less money. Back to Europe on 19th September for the last run.
  14. Please, mods, tell me how I can delete this crappy thread.
  15. It sounds as though you did not have European breakdown cover in place. Let that be a warning to any would be travelers. I just renewed mine for two cars, premium UK and European cover - £136.
  16. Is there a way to delete certain threads that I have followed in the past but no longer wish to?
  17. In Brussels at the moment but back to the UK on Monday. Photos of the trip below. Provisional costings all in were well under £1000 including £250 for the Eurotunnel. Some of the best routes were in Germany just north of Brussels, Luxembourg between the city and the Belgian border and of course, certain routes in the Black Forest. Not the 500. PS. V-Power Racing 1.54 euros per litre, ie. £1.09
  18. Was good to see you in Donington this weekend. Was a good do and the weather was great.
  19. Ah no. Don't waste your time and money. Absolute rubbish there.
  20. Agree about the traffic jams but the scenery will be nice.
  21. So was I near Jaca. Can't make Yarmouth. I'm going to the Kimbolton show at Cambridge.
  22. Alex, I missed you in Spain. Where were you?? Might do so again as I'll be at the Kimbolton car show.
