  1. TBH, I've never heard of most of the so called "celebrities" mentioned so far, they must all be "C" list or I'm getting really old . Anyway, I can't think of many that are still alive, Brian Cox, Stephen Hawking, Buzz Aldrin and Jasper Carrot are probably the only 4 I can think of. Pete
  2. The operation has gone well. The blood supply to the graft has been removed and the graft tidied up. There are some new stitches around the top of the nose and around the eyebrows and these will be removed next Tuesday. Caroline will then have a meeting with the surgeon in a couple of weeks time to discuss further treatment (if any) and for him to give his verdict on the success of the graft. Obviously, the graft looks out of place, Caroline describes it as like having a lump of playdoh stuck on her nose but we're assured this is fairly normal at this stage. These grafts can take 12 months to fully blend in so there's still a long way to go before normality returns. Pete
  3. It's not a revup, The dials and positioning of the hazard warning switch are the giveaway. Pete
  4. We had a Mk 1 180bhp from brand new in 2002. It was plagued with electrical problems and in the first 12 months we had to call out the lease company 6 times with 2 more call outs during years 2 and 3. Windows and doors were the main problem and also the engine management light came on numerous times. Nice car to drive though. Pete
  5. Another update. Caroline will have a further operation tomorrow, she should have had it last Monday but the NHS failed to inform us . Anyway, this operation is to remove the feed of blood from her forehead to her skin graft, there's probably an element of tidying the skin graft up too. Operation should take an hour to an hour and a half so she should be back home by Tea Time . Pete
  6. I was one of the first people in the U.K to have the yellow rear and white front reflective plates. Mate of mine worked in the motor trade and I ordered a set to fit on my Lambretta, got them on the day after they were legal, sometime in 1968, cost me £4, a lot of money when I was only earning £16 a week . Looked really cool on my "E" reg scooter though. These days I'd be taking them off and fitting the black and white ones back on again Pete
  7. Yep, used it a couple of times, once was at a Wales meet when I'd only driven it to The Moreton from home after washing it,15 miles in light drizzle, worked great. I believe that its widely in use by 2nd hand car dealers. Pete Pe
  8. Snoopers are O.K, its jammers that can end you up in big trouble...ie perverting the course of justice. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/nigel-stephenson-driver-jailed-using-5222056 Pete
  9. McLaren still at 18 on that list Yeah, noticed that and Chysler at 0, do they not sell that monstrosity in The U.K any more Pete
  10. The thing is, you miss out on ownership but still suffer the same depreciation (Beavis excepted ). "Never been used in the rain/winter" "Been stored for 3 years" won't count for a jot if you p/ex at a dealers. Might get you a bit more in a private sale to an enthusiast, that's the way I look at it. Pete
  11. Try this. https://www.smmt.co....-registrations/ I think they are complete for 2016 under the year to date tag. Pete
  12. Mine's primed and ready 365 days a year. Went for a run over the EVO the other day, really quiet this time of year Pete
  13. I presume these were cars sold in The U.K, probably sold lots more abroad. Pete
  14. Yeah, my 350 is the same, especially this time of year. I think the condensation heads to the rear window as it lies much more to the horizontal and has a large surface area. Not to say that the other windows don't attract condensation, they do but not to the same extent. Pete
  15. You were lucky to survive 3 seasons back then ! Stewart was good, no doubt about that. It's difficult to compare him with drivers of the modern era, he was a great thinker, didn't take chances, rarely crashed and could get the best out of a car that was built in a woodyard (yes really). He also had exceptional eyesight and peripheral vision .He never had the speed of Clark, Rindt or Peterson but we all know how they ended up. Pete
  16. It's a shame, they made big progress last year, managed to get into Q2 several times and in the dry too! The sport needs teams like Manor and Sauber, not just to bring up the rear but to blood new talent. As far as them being replaced, it's so difficult to get the funding required these days that the only real options are big manufacturers say like Audi, Toyota, BMW and VW and currently none of those are interested. Pete
  17. That's a really old fashioned opinion....one that I happen to agree with actually Pete
  18. Unusual spot, a Black 350Z facelift reg S100*** seen in Aldi Car Park, Buckley this afternoon. What is unusual is that this car was fitted with the standard wheels painted black , I was under the impression that all Zed's from 2006 were fitted with Rays as standard ? Mine certainly was and was registered Jan 1st 2006. Pe
  19. The master and innovator of the modern sponsorship model You don't like him because he's Scottish, the best driver there's ever been and he's Scottish , hang on, no that's me I'm thinking of (Secretly, I want a poster of me on YOUR bedroom ceiling (I'll send you one)) He wasn't even the best Scottish driver, that would be Jim Clark who was pure genius. He could drive anything F1/F2, saloons, won the Indy 500 and was leading the RAC rally, yeah he was good. Mind you, JYS may not have been the fastest but he was one of the cleverest and as you say was the first one to sell his image. I once stood next to JYS and my word was he diminutive. Pete
  20. Niki Lauda needed the money for his airline, "Lauda Air" but I can't imagine that Schumacher needed the money. James Hunt actually got as far as testing a Williams when he was 42 (and broke!), he was off the pace but felt that once he got into "condition" he would be competitive. What he meant by that is hard to grasp as he was well known for his smoking, drinking and drug taking . As far as Sir Jackie Stewart is concerned he too tested out a number of F1 cars but he was from a different era and self preservation was his main priority. He was also an ambassador for Ford and his salary was rumored to be 70k per annum, a lot of money in the 70's Pete
  21. Both of our Zeds have had frozen doors, several times. I don't think its the mechanism, it just freezes to the rubber seal. I just poured warm water around the edges of the door to release it. The problem with this is the water will freeze the door up again if there's another hard frost. I think sports cars are more liable to freeze because the doors tend to be much longer than on most Euroboxes. Pete
  22. You may well be not that far off the mark. I can think of 3 world champions who've come back , Alan Jones, Lauda and Schumacher. James Hunt came very close to coming back and Jackie Stewart gave it considerable thought. I wouldn't expect Rosberg back by 2018 though, it'll take him a couple of years to get bored . Pete
  23. During the winter of 2010 it got down to -12 here a couple of times which was the coldest in these parts since 1981/2. Although the winter of 1962/63 was exceptionally long, with daytime frosts for 2 months the coldest I saw on my dad's Max/Min thermometer was -15 and I can remember that my dad fixed at least a dozen underground bursts. One thing that sticks in my mind is getting up in the morning with half an inch of ice inside the bedroom window and my toothbrush frozen solid and then having to walk half a mile over 15 foot snowdrifts to get the school bus Pete
  24. I've lost a few petrol caps by leaving them on the roof, 2 of them were on my orange Mini and the caps were colour coded. I once locked myself out of a car on the forecourt of a petrol station by leaving the keys in the ignition and catching the lock button while getting out of the car. Did the same thing at a Motel in Rapid City, South Dakota, had to get a locksmith out for that one Pete
