  1. I can see that doing them a great deal of favours with the US trade negotiators. It will be interesting to see how far either side is going to take this to stick to their guns.
  2. Current government has 50.9% of the seats, with 36.9% of the vote.
  3. If the unions in Germany get whiff of any job losses from their industries due to trade barriers with the UK, then I believe Merkel will have trouble ahead if she doesn't listen to German business and unions calling for free trade reassurances. There are games afoot here whereby the pro European politicians don't wish to look weak on their commitment to the EU, but they know full well that without free trade with the UK, their own industries will suffer. In the wake of the VW emissions scandal, all they need now is "x thousand of German workers at VW plants to be made redundant because Merkel won't agree free trade with UK". It's a very high stakes game of who blinks first imho.
  4. I'll just leave this here... It appears there is reason to believe Corbyn voted to leave.
  5. Far from immigration, it is the accountability (or complete lack thereof) of the EU that worries me. Yes we see some reform, but lip service at best and the bare minimum to make it look like they actually cared about opinion. The hypocrisy of supporting higher taxes on business and wanting the wealthy to "pay their way", while simultaneously supporting the EU that has special tax rates of 24% or less for people paid hundreds of thousands a year is ridiculous imho. They are simply incompatible positions. Now is not the time for weak leadership and "you touched it last" attitude. Nor is it the time for sticking two fingers up to democracy. It is the time to get on with the job.
  6. To play devil's advocate, any US company eyeing up property just got a near 15% reduction before taking into account stamp duty etc.

  8. I haven't changed my avatar in several years since the first Scottish Hoon. Although a trivial gesture by an Admin who is often absent, I see no better reason to change it than this.
  9. Words can't describe how much he did for others and how great a person Martin was. It is not an exaggeration to say this club would not be what it is without Martin. Many friendships have been made due to events Martin organised. He leaves behind a great void for this club and holes in the hearts of many here that simply cannot be filled. Including mine. I've known Martin almost a decade and rarely do you meet people with such kind hearts. I simply cannot believe this news. It's going to take a long time to sink in. Im going to miss Martin Mac terribly. My heart goes out to Liz and family.
  10. Thanks A day in the office, followed by an evening of DIY at the house beckons. I may have a bottle of Corona when Im done. Rock and Roll
  11. Whether he thought he was on a legal hunt or not, whether the lion he shot was wearing a GPS tag and belonged to a conservation programme or not, its all irrelevant. This man paid a lot of money to travel half way round the world, hunt, and then kill an animal on a threatened species list, so he could hang its head on his wall. Regardless of whether the lion had a name or not (and thats why the story is as big as it is), it takes a special kind of prick to do that. Had this lion not had a name, and had it been just one of the other 30,000 ish lions out there, he would have got his kill, got the head mounted on his wall and the population of facebook would be non the wiser. Yet he would still have been just as massive a prick for doing it. Ive been to Africa, Ive seen lions less than 10 metres away. Ive seen Rhino, cheetah, leopards, watched hyena families, seen elephants rearing their young, seen the migration of wildebeast, fed giraffe and all in the wild. Ive got hundreds of photos, and I dont need the heads of any of these animals mounted on the wall of my home to remind me how absolutely amazing that experience was. Does this man deserve his life destroying for participating in something he thought was perfectly legal? No, probably not, but he seriously needs to be educated to see just how much more beautiful these animals are in the wild than stuffed and mounted on the walls of some no doubt naff victorian style trophy room.
  12. IMHO if you are spending a fair bit of money then get something related to you and not the car, then you can take it with you. Dont be afraid to look at the upcoming auctions from the DVLA too. Many go for far less than you would expect, even as little as the standard plate prices on their general website, but dont forget hammer premium and VAT. Mine now all tend to be BA11 XXX given my surname of Ball. Latest one went on just before Wimbledon started.
  13. It was great to catch up with some old friends on Saturday. Sorry we werent around that much, the kids were asleep in the car, so had to take it in turns to sit with them. It was good to meet some new faces too. Hope you all enjoyed the event. Very many thanks to Martin for yet again doing the club proud. He really does put in a fantastic amount of effort. Lexx did a grand job of organising too, I thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the zeds again. The entertainment was top notch as ever too. He's very well connected is our Martin! Sorry I didn't get to catch up on the Sunday, organising the kids took until late morning!
  14. Got a hotel booked last minute, so will see you guys there at some point on Saturday. Nice spot for non zed parking please
  15. Its not difficult. 3 letter words are not searched because of their frequency and the strain on resources to search the well over a million posts here for every instance. but you can use terms in quotes. Type "pet thread" (including the quotes) into the search box - ensure you are searching forums and not just this topic, and its at the bottom of the results. Started in 2009. The search works just fine. Apart from a bunch of stuff that was missed out of the indexing when we moved and has yet to be completed - but then we would have folk monaing that the site was running slowly while it indexed every word from about half a million posts.
  16. Sadly Z went. Due to family requirements, it simply wasnt getting used. Now using this as a daily to get the kids to nursery and do the shopping. Highly practical
  17. How's about a quick email to the scammer on eBay advising that they picked on the wrong chap. We now have a forum of X thousand zed owners, comprising people from various professions ranging from police to it experts and many more. Between them they have a wide set of skills. Skills that make them a nightmare for scammers like you.. You know the rest....
  18. There were protests and cinema bannings when Life Of Brian was released, but Im not aware there were Christian extremists walking into the production offices executing people. Religions should not just be judged on the actions of a few, but the inactions of the many. Show me another religion who's extremists are as regularly and brutally violent This problem will not be resolved by "Christian" & Western nations waging war against Muslim extremists. The only way deadly and violent Muslim extremists will be stopped, is by the overwhelming vast majority of peaceful Muslims. If they choose to just condemn the actions, but are otherwise just sitting back and letting them continue to happen, then continue to happen they will.
  19. The move amongst all political parties to tax wealth as well as income will eventually hit the property market. Mansion tax, rejig of stamp duty, changing rules on companies buying residential property, leaving inheritance tax threshold unchanged. All these are designed to dig into higher property values. The next government will have to start looking to raise income further, or cut spending further. Spending cuts, on top of what we have already seen will be a huge negative, and the popular culture at the moment is that the "wealthy" and corporates should pay up and we will have more than enough (even though if we did raise the £20 billion or so from estimated tax avoidance, we would still be £10Bn short of the funding needed for the NHS alone by 2020). That will lead to even more moves against high property values. They have already raided the pensions which spelled an end to final salary schemes, and they have already hit welfare too. The only big ticket item left is housing, especially the massively over inflated prices in the South. There will either be a massive shift in values and averaging across the land, or a crash, which will hit the south hardest. Start putting huge taxes on houses worth over £2m and suddenly that house that was on right move for £2.1m is suddenly down in value to £2m. the one that was then on at £2m will drop to £1.9m, and so on down the chain. Those at the bottom cheering for a mansion tax will be the ones sat in negative equity when it ripples through the market, and the oligarchs in London wont give a toss. So who is going to lose out? Ive invested in property, and Ive invested in my own home to the extent that Ive spent way more on it than its worth - but Im not treating my own home as an investment, Im treating it as a place for my family to live in and a nice place to call home. Anyone who has all their eggs in the property basket is playing a very dangerous game imho. If we start to see house building, and especially social house building in any large number, then we will see values fall. This is the predicament that any future government face. They can spout on about how they want to build 200,000 homes a year (which is quite frankly ridiculous as thats over 540 houses a day 7 days a week). If they came anywhere near to delivering those sort of figures, the value of the end product would crash. It would crash everyones house price, and leave the social housing that they have built as an asset worth less than it cost to build. Which would see the government in a worse financial hole than it is now.
  20. About £350 per thousand laid. Excluding materials. Bricks on long lead times, 6-8 weeks would not be out of the question at all. Work on 60 per sqm.
  21. I very much like the fact that in some cars, when the windscreen wipers are left in auto and they come on with rain sensing, if the car detects that the wipers have gone five times in succession, it realises it must be raining fairly heavy, so it puts the dipped headlights on too. My range rover does this and its a great road safety feature.
  22. This is very strange. Checking the database the number of posts assigned to a topic (such as the one listed above) matches exactly with the number of posts being shown in the topic. As would be expected. Am now searching to see if for any reason there are some orphaned psts out there that are in the database but dont have a topic assigned. Absolutely no idea at this stage what could have caused this.
  23. Because that's the rule for this site. It has served the vast majority of members well, both as buyers and sellers. Maybe it would be appropriate to ask why neither of the two sites you moderate on don't employ such a basic protection against fraudulent activity? Seems a no brainer to me.
  24. This. Especially if the buyer has a family to consider
  25. Nope, not me - it would kill me. My friend and his wife are running some very silly distances (Andrew is doing 100 miles and Keira 50). These are single runs - i.e. not five miles today five miles tomorrow etc. You start, and you go to sleep when you have finished. Crazy. Keira battled cancer herself at the age of 22, she is one of the lucky ones who came out of the other side, she is raising money for cancer research to help more people take on this awful disease. I know its cheeky, and we raise money at Wales events etc, but Im trying to get this great effort by them recognised. If you can afford to give anything to this worthy cause, please do. Im sure both Keira and Andrew would appreciate it. If all you can do is post this link on your facebook for others to read her story and donate then that would be much appreciated too. There are hundreds of us here, if a few of us share it, and only a few who read it donate anything, we can make a big difference. Thank you to all https://www.justgiving.com/Keira-Booth Regards, Chris.
