It's an Americanism, so barely acceptable. Referring to gotten, sorry.

 

Hugh has kindly pointed it out to me via PM, but I've left it up to see how quickly someone else finds it.

Just for the record, "gotten" is not an Americanism. In the states they speak an older form of English compared to us Brits who speak a more evolved form. The "ten" from gotten is just how it used to be, we've just dropped it off the past participle. Edited by Rock_Steady

Agreed it's gramatically OED type wrong. But it's SO common and frequently used by the people here I have figured it's up there same as having an accent or a type of regional slang.

 

This is true of the 2nd Conditional. It used to always be "if I were you...". But since so many English speakers say "was" instead" or "were" it's now accepted in the grammar. Edited by Rock_Steady

Wow, that's interesting, I also naturally assumed it was one of those horrible Americanisms. Just goes to show what I knew!!? :lol:

Too soon, but after he's pm'd Alex and his problem has been sorted, perhaps he can be ATTAK Z'd ...eh? ;)
