monsween Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Hey all, I signed up for hints and tips with the other 240z project but a few asked about mine so thought I'd put a thread together. It's a 1970 Datsun 240z, 4 speed manual, US import from California. The paintwork is horrendous and it needs the carb re-jetted and set up properly as ran like a dog but it still got me 600 miles from Guildford to Aberdeen with only a few roadside bodges Plans are not to everyones liking in terms of low and wide but it's what i've bought the car for so it'll be happening! Immediate Plans Re-jet carbs and get running perfect Seats/Harnesses/Cage Lowered Wide Ass Wheels Carbon bolt on arches Carbon duck tail spoiler Front AirDam lip Future Plans Engine swap - LS1 or 2JZ Full Respray - Dark gunmetal of some sort Re-trimmed Interior Anyway time for photos A few jobs completed over the last few weeks. De-bumpered the rear Bought a new set of wheels ready for when the cars a little lower. You'll see from the photos that it doesn't sit quite right being higher. Removed all the AC as it wasn't working or even connected! More room now for a new rad and electric fan kit. Next - Fit the seats and harnesses, get some coilovers made and get the fuel tank welded up 4 Quote

Sam Mcgoo Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Welcome to the club. I recognise your name from when I was on mkivSupra.net. Good to see another early Z project, one of dreams for a long time so very jealous. Quote

monsween Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Well the Datsun got a full wet sand detail and came out STUNNING! Dodgy US respray came out really well! It's no where near flawless but moves the respray down the list of jobs to do. 2 Quote
GMballistic Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Are you going to fill/smooth over where the nasty rear bumper used to mount? Look's great and can't wait to see it develop further. 1 Quote
Darren-B Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Wow the car looks ace. How comes it has the Z-vents in the rear quarters? are they just stuck on? Or does it have an earlier boot lid? I know the very early 240's had the vents below the windscreen which were later removed & replaced with the ones in the rear quarter in 71' I believe. Quote
Darren-B Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Oh & where did you get the rear numberplate from & what size is it? Mines way to big & doesn't fit properly Quote
a2orry Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Love old style wheels.if your having carb problems is worthwhile sending them away for full strip down and ultrasonic cleaning. Quote

Darren-B Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Is your front bumper in good condition? free from dents? I might be interested if the price is right, although I am contemplating going for the euro spec bumpers, boot lip & front valence with mine Quote
