How to remove all wax/sealant?

I'm going to touch up some chipped paintwork so need to make sure the paint is as clean as possible. What do I use to remove the layers of sealant and wax?

Would undiluted APC do the trick? I've got the auto finesse stuff.

I'm not looking to strip the whole car just the localised area where the chips are.

Fairy Washing up liquid (diluted down of course) would remove it all.

APC generally tends to be too mild.

I use Tardis (solvent based), but only when I am doing a full polish/glaze/wax on the car as it's a bit strong to be using regular.

And also give me fairy soft hands!

There's a massive debate over Fairy Liquid. One the one hand it's a degreaser by design so it should but on the other hand many people with much more (and some with much less) scientific knowledge than I have claimed that the surfactants in Fairly Liquid merely alters the behaviour of LSP's rather than remove them at all.

A couple of hits with neat APC will eventually remove it but it's not the most effective method. Something solvent heavy like Tardis (as mentioned) or any solvent based tar remover (AutoGlym, for example) or specialised shampoo as mentioned will do it.

Failing that, any abrasive polish or clay will remove it too, as will IPA/Eraser/Panel Wipe.

I'd agree with most of the above, but to be fair assuming you're using cellulose based paint with thinners - like most touch up sticks - if you are only doing chips the thinners will dissolve any wax in the chip.

I've done hundreds of chips and scratches and have never prepped a chip before painting - obviously a whole panel is a different proposition and you should try to remove all wax and silicates.
