Shortest period of Z ownership

So after having so much bother with my '57 midnight blue Z and the supplying dealer I've arranged to trade it back into the and get another car after having it for a miserly 3.5months.

 

Such a shame as I really wanted to enjoy the Z but couldn't due to it's niggles (all suspension related) - I guess I expected some hassle from the car given it's age.

 

New car: 2013 Focus ST-2, never seen myself as a Ford Owner but the supplying dealer has a few ford dealers and had a few at excellent prices, came from a hot hatch to the Z, and back I go I suppose. Perhaps when the memory of this fades I'll get a 370 ;)

 

Fingers crossed the ST has as good a community as this - whilst I mostly lurked I learnt so much in the lead up to buying the car and what to look for!

 

Time to go rip the head unit out and put the BOSE back in ;)

So what was found and/or done to try rectify the suspension issues? I remember your recent post where you mention the creaking over speed bumps and things like the drop links and banana arms were suggested as points for investigation.

 

The car was still under warranty at the time - so what happened? :shrug:

Yeah they replaced "D bushes" for me claiming that would fix it, but didnt road test it, and when the noise was still there they basically said well everything else is sound so you have to expect noises from a 7 year old car. Which did get my back up a little.

 

So they took it back and said everything was fine (even though my MOT has an advisory for driver and passenger side suspension bushes hmmmm, but is vague in that it doesn't say which) - they couldn't reproduce the noise (however when I took the car out the garage it made it immediately) and the odometer basically hadn't moved since i dropped it off. Frustrating dealing with them as they refused to re-check the banana arm bush\ball joint even on my suggestion.

 

So I basically left with the car and filed a complaint with their head office, was offered either to take it to an independent Nissan dealer (a bit out the way) OR I could trade it in against a car in their stock, I chose the latter, as they are basically giving me back what I paid for the car, less a small amount - i did consider rejecting to get 100% back, but the discount I got off the ST makes up the difference. And the time\stress element on this motor has taken its toll. I'm one of those people that handles stress about cars\houses really poorly.

Shame mate but thats what happens when you get it of a rotten dealer who are doing their best to avoid forking out to fix the car. Maybe speak to you again when I pass you in your ST and you rush off to buy a 370 :lol:

Short story about the ownership of a Fiat 500 Abarth.

 

I live close to a Main Fiat Dealers, the other Sat morning a customer

 

picked up a New Fiat 500 Abarth in Ferrari Red, drove it out of the

 

dealers and totalled it against a bus on the roundabout right outside the Dealers, total length

 

driven 20 yards. Period of ownership 30 seconds that includes putting on seat belts..!! :scare: :scare:

Shame mate but thats what happens when you get it of a rotten dealer who are doing their best to avoid forking out to fix the car. Maybe speak to you again when I pass you in your ST and you rush off to buy a 370 :lol:

 

Yeah mate - never did come to a meet. If you see a red ST go past you starting BG13 you know who it was ;-)

Could it have been the suspension arm as I described here?

They couldn't reproduce it in the garage but it was obvious when driving the car over a bump.

 

Could be - guess it's their problem now. Car arrives tomorrow so collection Saturday or Monday - just filled the Bloody Z up as well with £70 of the good stuff!

I went from a mk 2 ST2 to my zed and they are totally different types of car. Focus is FWD turbo with a high seating position and imho, really boring.

 

Also, I'm surprised you were anticipating many problems in a 6-7 year old car, 5 years old is the youngest car I've ever owned and have never had any serious problems. Could be lucky I guess but I like to think I buy well.

I came from a mk2 Leon cupra to the Z and while the Z is more exciting I find that i personally cover ground slower in the zed maybe due to my driving style.

 

I'm excited to be back in a hot hatch, however the reason for the z in the first place was to get some big n/a proper rwd power so I imagine I will have mixed feelings when I say goodbye

 

I like the relaxed easy always there power but I did always think the shunt off a turbo was more excitinh for 99% of on the road driving. I am always surprised at how fast I'm.going in the Z as its really not dramatic. In a hot hatch you know your pushing it!

Sorry to hear about this. I had a similar short ownership of an audi a3 2.0 tdi about 4 years ago which I had brought from a dealer. Within driving home 15 miles. Coolant light had come on... Topped up and forgot about it for two days until it came on again. Took it back, they then called me the next day and said that there was a water pipe leaking, so they replaced that.

 

Got the car home checked the water again and had noticed they had dropped a rad weld into the header tank as the water was now dark brown with bits in it. Lost all trust in the garage at this point.

Read up online and spoke to a few specialist about the issue and found it had a porous cylinder head.

Dealer luckily gave me my money back after about a week.

A bad dealer experience can ruin your enjoyment of a car, and there are plenty of them about unfortunately.

I have owned an ST and thought it was great. In fact, when buying my 350Z it was a toss up between another ST and the 350Z. The Z won on looks, style, rarity and sound more than anything else. My ST was a 5 cylinder though which sounded good, not sure how the new 4 pot sounds.

I am sure you will not be disappointed with the ST though.

I think the new ST has a "Symposer" so sounds pants from the outside but inside with the windows up it's meant to sound good - not as good as the 5-pot though.

 

Ahh i forgot about the sound - I will miss the V6 blasting through a tunnel.
