Darren350 Posted April 9, 2014 Share Posted April 9, 2014 Guys, After a bit of advice really, after trying for a month my wife is pregnant. Woohoo! I'm chuffed to bits! However... I bought the 350Z in February, the baby is due in October, we only have the one car though. Surely I cannot keep the 350Z with a baby??? I'm assuming not and guess I will have to sell it a month or so before the baby comes. Sad times. The car is due it's MOT at the end of September so my plan is to get it through the MOT, and then sell it then. At least that way the car will have a brand new MOT. It will also be coming with a good 4 months tax as well. The front tyres are a tad suspect, obviously if they are so far gone come MOT time I will have to replace them. Am I better off changing them now or hanging on until MOT time? I'm very happy about the baby and it is just a car. But I spent ages looking for a good GT and now have to flog it! Boohoo, haha It's due a service next month so I may have a specialist give it a good going over and see what it may fail on and get all the work done early. Is that the best bet? I obviously won't want to throw thousands and thousands at it only to sell it in 6 months time, but getting it MOT ready and new owner ready prematurely can't be a bad idea??? rabbitstew Posted April 9, 2014 Share Posted April 9, 2014 Keep it. I found my wife was pregnant last year and I immediately rushed out and bought another motorbike. Even though I have 3 perfectly good ones in the garage already. I have whatever car I want (BMW 123d Coupe) and she has the "sensible" 4 door car (Nissan Juke). Theres no way on gods earth I want a baby in my car throwing its guts up everywhere and sh!tting all over the leather seats, so we use her car for any trips which involve taking the baby out. Seems to work really well for us. I even get to use her car some days atm whilst shes on maternity leave which saves wear & tear on my BMW. Having a 2nd car doesnt have to be expensive, but does require that your wife can drive, has some NCB to help with insurance and you have somewhere to park it. If thats not an option, then personally id sell the zed asap rather than fork out on anything else. On mine I spent £250 on brake pads, £160 on a service, £660 on tyres, £50 on MOT, £80 on a new shock then sold it a few weeks later. Of course, the new owner would have been happy as larry with all the stuff I spent on it, but it was all cash out of my pocket which I saw no return on. That all aside, you need to definitely make the most of the time you have now before the baby arrives. Ours arrived last October and 6 months on im like a zombie. Havent had a decent nights sleep since last September. Take last night for example. Get home from work at 7pm, i do the washing, cook dinner, bath the baby, then as im knackered I go to bed at 9pm. The baby wakes at 1am for a feed, so i get up and feed him, then I cant get back to sleep until 3am, Just drift off then he wakes up at 4am wanting more food, so I feed him again. Get back to bed and just about drift off when the cats wake me up, so i get up, feed them, make my lunch, iron my work shirt, have a shower, breakfast, now its 7.30am so off I go to work. Having a baby sounds like great fun Through pure parent pressure, and fast running out of mates who's lives don't revolve around screaming/pooeying/eating machines we're going to have to give in and join the band of sleep deprived, estate/mpv driving, and broke brigade soon.....cannot wait More seriously though if your going to get rid of the car soon don't waste any money on anything but the very minimal....it wouldn't make any difference come sale/px time. I can afford the Zed okay but couldn't afford a second car NOW let alone when I'm buying Pampers every few hours, lol Due to decent insurance, and a lack of driving a great deal I can get whatever car I want as long as it costs the same as the Zed, and has four doors. Ive mates who have 2 kids and yet have all the time in the world to pursue their hobbies and interests. Hell one of them found time to build a kit car even! But for me, after ive spent all week working and doing all the house hold chores, cleaning etc.. I only seem to have about 1 hour a week free where I can do my own thing. So all my hobbies & interests are out of the window. No more working out, no clay shooting, no playing computer games, no watching movies. That 1 hour usually involves either washing my car (hardly relaxing) or if im lucky going out on the motorbike for a quick spin. I guess it depends on how much your wife will help out around the house. Also what if when you do come to sell it, it doesn't sell for a good few months (Unlikely, but still possible) I'd start planning now Thats a very good point. Sometimes I see zed`s taking forever to sell. If its a cheaper one then it might be a quick sale, but for the later ones like mine was (2007/2008) which when I sold mine were going for £12k upwards they can be a hard sell as not everyone can afford that, or afford to run a 3.5 V6 with high road tax & insurance etc... Errr....this is what a mother on Maternity leave is supposed to be doing!!?!? Otherwise, she's just on holiday!!! Indeed. But shes busy all day watching telly. Shes worked her way through all 13 seasons of ER, 7 seasons of Private Practise, countless other box sets and now is working her way through Game of Thrones. Bems Posted April 9, 2014 Share Posted April 9, 2014 My daughter is one in two weeks time. I've had the zed for nearly two years now & its is my weekend car. I thought about selling up before the baby arrived but I have such a good zed that I didn't want to let her go. My other car is an SUV which does all the family stuff and is the wife daily. Trouble is I've found myself using the zed less & less as you want to spend as much time with your new family especially if you work away from home like me. I'm glad I kept the zed as as good as our SUV is (I the real world it'll beat the zed at most things) it doesn't make me take a second look at her when I walk away, it doesn't make me grin or feel good when I'm driving it. In truth though its only a matter of time before I'm going to have to accept defeat & sell the zed as if I'm really honest she's not getting used nearly enough at doing what she was made to do. Whenever I baby sit him, i manage to clean the whole house - bathrooms, hoover, do the clothes washing, the whole lot, as the baby just sleeps most of the time so its an easy job really. I made the mistake of saying it was easy after I had the twins for the day. She just keeps saying, you don't know what its like you weren't there. Like some kind of Vietnam war veteran. Nearly 240BHP if I remember right. Not as quick as the Zed but so practical. And amazing on fuel as well!
