SKY insurance rocks !

Just been on the phone to sky after Peter (4RE Leather) had a great price from them with his similarly supercharged zed!

Spoke to Sam who was very helpful and knowledgeable about modified cars and the zed :D

He quickly got me an amazing quote with all mods declared and even feature mods!

It's a fully comp cover with legal protection, European cover, windscreen etc.

My previous insurance is with someone here who gave me same type of cover and they where competitive last year but on the renewal quote letter this year their interest charge has gone up and also excess. For loyalty I call to see what they could do but unfortunately I spoke to someone who doesn't deal with anything and would be called by somebody else later. The way I see it it doesn't fill you with confidence and also if they can improve a quote why not give you the best one in the first place to keep your business especially when you have a good history.

I have 9yrs NCB no existing convictions and live in posh middle earth of Worcestershire so it helps.

Suffice to say SKY beat the quote by over an amazeballs 100 quid!!!

Their quote was ~60quid cheaper and their interest charge 7% lower than my previous insurer's quote. To cap it all Sam managed to also half my arrangement fee to secure the deal today :)

The underwriter is Chaucer who I specialise in modified cars insurance and clubs and have a good track record.

I would recommend SKY to insure your pride and joy or at least five them a call before you make any decisions.

Happy happy.

Can I ask why you'd recommend Sky to insure anyone's pride and joy just out of interest?

Apart from of course the fact that they beat another insurers renewal premium and placed you with an insurer who placed 4th bottom put of 50 competitors in the Which customer satisfaction survey (assuming Chaucer and Chaucer direct are the same company)

I am bias of course as I work here but I've said it before and I'll say it again, as a Jap car enthusiast insuring two of my own Japanese Imports and seeing how the company in question deal with claims, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to any fellow enthusiast, in my opinion Chaucer are the cream of the crop.

I don't know about you but an important part of choosiing an insurance provider is getting a good price for your cover requirements. Check

That the company has a reasonable track record

and good customer service. Check

Personal recommendation from people I know or can trust who have used their service before. Check

The customer satisfaction survey is just that and usually does not tell the whole story as these are very broad based. Maybe a more specific survey of providers for modified cars would be more informative. In the over 10years I have had performance cars with different levels of modification and had to claim twice. One on my E46 M3. Repairs amounted to the cost of a used zed today since the car was almost new. The other was for my 550bhp Scooby. Both were non fault and everything went smoothly. It maybe 8 years ago since the last claim but I don't think much has changed.

I used the same principles to select the provider and when they stopped being competitive I left to a better deal.

Ricey it's typing his reply...

:snack:

I was but I deleted it.....I can't be arsed and I feel mean on Sky because they're the only really active insurance trader and I'm not really having a pop at them directly.

I'm just sick of death of people being satisfied (to the point of near sexual gratification) with mediocrity because they're so used to failure.

The insurance industry is mediocre (in fact the finance industry in general is mediocre).

Bennett's thread is a bad example too because he's so heavily modded he's probably only got a choice of 2 insurers in the land!

Oh and BTW it was a genuine and not loaded question. I just wondered what was so 'good' about it other than being cheap because I'd heard Chaucer were gash and having seen the Dawgs recent thread now realise Kindertons are another company you have to deal with in a claim situation.

Not saying Kindertons are gash either but I have a natural and well placed phobia of dealing with anyone with the word '3rd party' in their title!

Somewhat harsh as those of us who have modified cars know all too well that is difficult enough to find a friendly insurance company/broker (in this world of computerized tickboxes) that fully understands 'modifications' and use their commonsense to quote something that is reasonable.

So to find on renewal that there is competition out there that means we pay less is a real bonus.

But perhaps your never-ending change of cars 'cos you kept buying duds has coloured your judgement as they are no doubt unmodified, which is what the vast majority of the insurance industry wants and hence you had greater choice.......

Totally Unmodified.......Except for the:

MX5

350z

Lancer

Merc

TT

Other than that they've all been stock......all 1 of them.

Oh and I've been insured with a modified car specialist for each of those 3 years (each time cheaply with a gash insurer).

I think I phrased my question wrong really and perhaps wasn't the point Bennett was making.......Sky give you a good price. I get that but it isn't the end of the story when it comes to brokers arranging insurance. There again like I say that's perhaps not the point he was making.

Why would amazeballs be worthy of a ban? I'm not really in to football myself but if they use amazing balls then that's up to them surely?

EDIT: Or any other sport requiring a ball for that matter? :)

Nothing to do with football, that word should just never be used! It's like all the saying's from that b0110x essex shows etc!

Wow that last line was abit personal wasnt it?

I agree 100% with Ricey. He isn't having a go at anyone here. He is just saying it is sad that insurance is usually such a rubbish thing in the cost, customer service the way you have to do this and that etc etc. It's like saying yeahh I went to Mcdonalds today and they DIDN'T spit on my food. Woohoo. That's how I'm seeing it as anyway.

 that is absolutely fricking bizarre .......that exact comparison, near word for word was in the original tome I wrote and deleted.

It really isnt anything that specific against Sky so it's probably bad show to do it on a Sky 'appreciation' thread but there seem to be endless appreciation threads for simply giving a cheap quote to someone. Sky seem to be an awesome broker but I don't see that means you get good quality insurance cover to protect your 'pride and joy' as a result which is what I initially thought Bennett was implying, hence my asking why he believed that. Turns outs it's more the fact that he even got insured and at a great price too.

You can talk to the nicest guy in the world at a burger van who sells you a burger for £1.50, he'll put extra cheese on and take the pickles off. He'll offer a range if sauces and give you a complimentary napkin. The guy wants your business bad because MacDonalds are driving him to the wall so he sells you his burger cheap and bespoke.

You might even go in the pub and tell your mates about the awesome cheap burger you've just had and they might go get one too. Doubtful that you'll ring each other up the next day and tell them that you've just turned your bog into the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan though.

At the minute Bennett is both full and satisfied, warm in the afterglow of his cheap tasty snack............it's the long term wellbeing of his arsehole that I worry about.

Now I'm not saying that the burger guy might not come round and rub a little savlon on the rusty sheriffs badge should the worst happen but the fact is that his o-piece is in tatters and whilst it will eventually heal after careful nurture from the burger van man, potentially he will still have already endured some discomfort (as the Dawg appears to be at the moment........Huskys barking spider is on fire and the burger man is now applying the savlon).

The burger man is the good guy I get that.......but it doesn't stop him potentially serving you botchalism in a bap.

In case anyone is confused:

Bennett is Bennett

The burger man is Sky

The burger is the insurance/3rd party management company

The conversation in the pub is this thread

The other people who buy the burger are you lot (although if you wear a Soveriegn ring and live in a dodgy area the burger man will hike the price up to £2.00)

The arsehole is the car

The burning is the entire front end of your car being resprayed the wrong colour

The savlon is the bollocking Sky dole out to the insurer or 3rd party claims company when it goes tits

Or you know what........you eat the burger and you remain constipated until the time comes around again to buy another burger. In which case everyones a winner.

I can see where Ricey is coming from and I agree, but unfortunately or maybe fortunately, most of us will never have to eat the burger to find out if we get a spout of VD or not.

Currently I'm with Admiral and I'm pretty happy, just because they provide the best price to allow me to drive on the road legally. Now a point will arrive with my car that Admiral will say no, due to the amount of modifications and I'll have to go on the long annoying hunt for a specialist insurer who will quote for Northern Ireland and not ass rape me at the same time.

So of course I will go for the best/cheapest fully comp offer with the various add ons I may require and I'll be happy. But if either this year or in a year somewhere down the line something happens to the car and an insurance claim has to be made, only then will I really see what mettle either Admiral or another insurer is made of.

You'll notice that I said I'm "pretty happy" with Admiral, as apposed to "happy". Well, thats because they don't actually insure your modifications. If I spashed out £3k on a set of Volks, declared them to Admiral, paid the extra premium and they got stolen, I wouldn't get jack squat except a set of OEM 18's to roll on, because thats what the car has as standard. It's crap, but thats how they work and how they provide low quotes. However if I went with a more specialised insurer, the quote would be higher that Admiral, but if the worst happened to my Volks, i'd get a new set, simples!

So I agree with Ricey that shouting from the roof tops about a cheap insurance quote doesn't really mean much and is kind of like having an appreciation thread based on a 99p cheeseburger with not much content, compared to a £9.50 double decked 12oz fillet burger with cheese, jalapeños and salsa. :cloud9:

But, as I said before, hopefully none of us get to find out how much mettle our insurance policies/underwriters have, but drive safely in the knowledge that if something does happen, they have our back, after all, thats what we're paying for.
