pop charger over other kits?

Pretty much as the title asks, why are pop chargers talked about alot more than normal filters and kits? Any benefits and why are they called pop chargers and not just a jwt induction kit?lol

I've no idea on the name, I'm sure theres some technical reason for it, but, most of use went for them above others due to the sound.

It's what the yanks call an induction kit.

 

It's just a well put together, well priced piece of kit.

 

They all do the same thing.......put a flat spot in your acceleration and make your car sound amazing

Stick with a good panel filter and velocity stack.

Same reason you'd call a particular type of kit from K&N a Typhoon. It's a brand name, nothing more.

 

They're more common simply because they're cheaper. I loved mine, but no doubt it robbed me of a couple of horses.

Cheers for all the input guys. All making very valid points, but still swayed toward the massive v6 induction noise. Had an astra turbo for years and stuck with original airbox with good panel filter and larger air intake pipe, so need some grunt in my life for once!lol seen the takeda dry short ram kit! Keenly priced and can get to matche my engine bay mod/colour scheme!

Go for the JWT Pop Charger. Very popular on this forum and a great piece of kit. Tarmac will sort you out with one at a good price. Very easy to fit too.

You will probably suffer from lots of heat soak with this kit.

I would always go for the induction noise. If you were to calculate any loss of bhp due to heat soak it would be a tiny percentage of the overall, relative to the weight of the car. The flat spot only really occurs if you are in traffic or similar. In the autumn and winter on any decent drive out I don't notice any issue at all and the induction noise is great - it's there when you want it and not when you don't.

Yeah that's another issue I have read about, heat soak and water ingress :S Surely with the climate in this country you would rather ur filter tucked up nice and dry in ur engine bay rather than snorking thru heavy rain and puddles down at the front grill?lol think I would prefer a few horsies less in return for dry air? Or have I got this all wrong?

Do the JWT ones comes in any diff colours? Blue is kinda like being between a rock and a hard places for my engine bay!

The JWT ones I have seen have all been blue. One of the traders may confirm one way or the other.

Sounds like you'd be better off with an open filter that sits where the Popcharger does, but has a small airbox to cover it. There is one out there, but the name escapes me right now. Might even be the Typhoon, come to think of it.

My Popcharger is black and I've seen a few others also. All the pictures on sites are blue, but no idea who sells what colour.

They have been blue for nearly two years now.

 

I had one on mine and loved it, the Takeda are good plus you get the pipe too which is a bonus
