Experiment - How accurate & just how fast is an HR?

In reply to people put down the Zed.

I disagree personally. I love my Zed bar Rtb I think everyone loved there 350. But we could still see its flaws and disadvantage. As said I love my zed but it's not really that fast and it's lardy etc etc. But I still love it. I'm just realistic about what it is and can do. People who think its the faster car ever or think only rich and the royals drive them need a reality check. Nothing against the car.

Thank you rabbitstew! And its not the cost or what it can be picked up for... its how it makes you feel and a bit of that is reaction from others (not to you being in the car....to the car itself). Also I do know its failures and never ever said it was the fastest thing ever (i do agree it is reasonably fast though)...so thats hopefully not aimed at me DBlock! anyway I love how I can make these threads kick off (and its usually me giving inocent comments and people drop an anvil on them!).... lets all have a big Z family hug :console:

You can pick one up for just over £3K these days. The cheapest R8 in the country is £40K.

Im loving the way that people are making the HR out to be a different car ........ to 99.99% of the country a 350Z is a 350Z, to most of that percentage its a slightly nicer than average Nissan.

+1 the hr is hardly different to look at. People are making out its a completely different model!

The minor face tweeks do make a difference I think, still looks a bit more modern. But, thats my opinion anyway lol.

I bring nothing but class to the Zed *buckles laughing at himself*

I guess its entirely down to the person judging the cars. The HR had an 80% new engine, more power, improved cooling, higher rev limit, tuned up as much as Nissan possibly could. I cant remember all the differences now between the older 276bhp models & the HR but the Nissan brochure for 2007 had a list as long as your arm, including revised suspension, exhaust, bonnet, as well as mounting engine lower in the car to improve handling. Plus on top of that, the HR models will all be the facelift models compared to the older zeds and all the HR models had Rays wheels as standard. So quite a lot of major differences between models.

But, sure, if you parked a £4k early imported zed next to a £12,000 HR model the average Joe Public wouldnt be able to tell the difference as they all look pretty much the same..

Bit like when my missus looks at cars. The other day we saw an Escort Cosworth and I pointed out it was quite a rare car and probably worth about £12,000. She promptly told me it looked like a normal Ford Escort and she wouldnt have said it was worth any more than £200.

I guess you can use the same sort of comparison about a lot of cars. Look at the Porsches. Some people assume if you have a Porsche you must be rich and associate them with the likes of Lambourghini`s, Ferrari`s etc.. but you can pick up a Porsche Boxster for less than £3k, a 996 for £7k etc... Even a 997 can be bought for less than a Ford Focus these days. But if you parked a 997 next to a Ford Focus, Or a Boxster next to some old mk4 VW Golf Diesel, I bet the majority of people would assume the Porsche is a much more expensive car.

I think its more about what the owner of the car feels rather than what other people think about it.

I ran my s14 with just a decat 3inch elbow back exhaust at pod and ran 14.3 at 99.1mph, i then bought my Zed went to pod to watch at a car show and there were to Zeds the best i saw out of them was a 14.8 at 97mph, which i why im too scared to run mine at pod in fear my zed will be slower than my old s14 £1500 barge

Weve just done this big argument about S14s and 350Z's on SXOC, concensus of those that had actually driven both was the 200 is always faster in a straight line but the Zed has it licked on pretty much all other counts. Obviously there were some that simply wouldnt accept that (despite their chairman and one of their most respected traders, Mr Horsham telling them it) but hey, someone has to be wrong :D

Rabbitstew - you can keep telling yourself that, but even to a hardened japcar fan a 350Z is a 350Z. As Dave said, most people cant tell the difference between a 350 and a 370, I doubt many will get excited about the HR's lower engine mounting point TBF ;)

As for the 997 and the Focus .......... seriously? A set of tyres for the Porsche is going to cost what 5 years servicing does on the Focus, the richer man/driving enthusiast/sweeter car will always be in the Porka.

Last night my boss said he is thinking of getting the newer 350z with the different shaped front lights, He has the forum address now so

Does it matter if it is? Surely the Zed is a better package and handles significantly better than the S14?

Dont get me wrong im not saying that the thread was with regards to 0-60 0-10 1/4mile times the fact is 350z are slow Mazda 3 mps and Chysler SRT calibrers things out pace a 350 in a straight line

The Mazda really doesn't! I have a vid from raf valley with the Mazda club and the 3 was terrible compared to my 350z without nos running.

This threads going mental. I love it! :stir: As I said its all good fun, but from just looking at rough times posted on the site from various stuff I'd like to be between 14-15secs...surely lol...BUT...we'll find out.

Mental eh? You must lead a fascinating life ;)

Going back to the original post 0-60 times arent really a great measure as they can be seriously affected by any number of things, from a slightly slower gearchange to a tiny bit of wheelspin. Since most car manufacturers now deliberately map and gear their cars for good 0-60's its pretty irrelevant IMO anyway, particularly on stuff that goes on to do 150/160 mph.

Quarters are a much better gauge, but you will still have the same issues - RWD>FWD>AWD getting off the line, very powerful cars will always struggle for traction in the lower gears and the same goes for cars with gearing for >150mph. The one saving grace is the you have three figures, the 60ft, 1/4 and terminal speeds and considering all three can actually give a decent picture of what the car was up to. 30-130 is the best gauge of speed as it takes all of the variables out of the mix :)

Ive had a lot of quick cars and after a while the numbers are irrelevant, be it hp, 0-100 or lateral G, my driftcar dash had the only working dial you need and that was oil temp, the rest are just for bragging anyway ;)
