Cayman is ugly though....like all Porsches

Oh you are so so so wrong :p

i used to think that, but as i've got to about 30, the porsche style has really grown on me. its an itch i'd like to scratch at some point. but i think i prefer the cayman style to the 911.

but have to agree i do find the porsche interior a bit soulless, but very well put togehter.

+1

+ Another 1.

Biggest pro for getting a 370 would be you could hang around here without looking like a tool as you don't have a Zed anymore

Ooooh harsh

I haven't driven either but I'd be happy to put money on the Porsche being a far better drive.

I shouldn't think the running costs are prohibitive either....

Cayman S over a 370Z every day of the week for me I'm afraid :surrender:

Running costs aren't far off, it's when the big stuff goes wrong that it costs. I'm talking repairs to an IMS-failed M97 engine (£4K+) or a PDK gearbox replacement (£15K). Just budget £1K a year into the warranty and you're covered for this though, and given that the Caymans are better on fuel than a Zed, you may not be as far away as you might think. :)

Of course, some people can't live with the badge, but they're normally the same kind of people who get offended when others say they could never drive a Datsun ;)

One thing I've noticed about Porsches ......they don't sound very nice do they?

Like the beemers .....kind of a strangled rasp instead if the growl everyone wants

I have to say, the 911 sounds terrible, sounds like there is something wrong with it

I agree, it's the one thing that would put me off. It definitely has a clinical 'motorsport' sound to it though, and I think you'd grow to like it - expecially with the aforementioned exhaust upgrade. Although I doubt you can just spend £400 on a mid pipe and backbox to achieve a huge sound change, as you would with a Zed

You can spend £200 on a replacement x-pipe on gen2 cars, or £50 for a bit of pipe welded between the exhaust inlet/outlets and get the same result, so actually cheaper ;)

The PDK 'box cost is for the whole unit and all electronics at OEM replacement costs, and is equivalent to what Nissan charge for the 'box on the GTR so it's not outlandish. It's also the only reason I've got a warranty ;)

I actually have to disagree lol :surrender: I would go for a cayman s...... I am currently looking at them and getting rid of the 370z

That didnt last long, wonderd why i didnt see any bodykits or spoilers being attached to your 370.

Literally trust bout to type the same thing.

My guess is it's not enough of a 'step up' Jay?

You have got it in 1 ricey. Its a nice place to be and its a nice car.... but nothing stands out (for me)... who knows I may keep it... but I doubt it

My brothers 996 c4s with the Porsche adjustable sport exhaust sounded :cloud9: I'll see if I can dig out a video of it. It was one of most spectacular roars I've ever heard  I'm currently looking at a Boxster S for my missus. Doing alot of research before delving in though. We have a Porsche approved specialist mechanic not far who quoted great prices for servicing etc.

I thought the v10 in the m5 sounds fantastic, especially with a set of aftermarket pipes.

Tbh also the s54 in the m3 sounds good, with supersprint exhaust, however, it's a little pricey, like amuse titanium full pricey.

Though i'm now thinking, the amount I've spent on mods on the z is probably more

I'm yet to hear a porsche I like, though, the carrera sounds pretty nice iirc?

I agree, but, I believe it's unfair to compare the two. By the time you've added a few bits and pieces to the basic £48.5 for a Cayman S you're really looking at a car that's going to set you back £55k or probably more....and last time I asked a few years ago the discount for cash was pitiful. A 370Z will set you back £33k with the GT pack, you can probably get a big discount on that too. A better comparison would be 370Z against the Boxster, Cayman S versus GTR.

True, but the OP asked whether he should try a Cayman S to see how it stacked up against the 370Z. Whether he can afford it or not only he knows

Personally, there's no way I'd be buying a new Cayman S, I could think of far better S/H things to buy with the best part of £50K, the 911 Turbo would be one of them :cloud9:
