Safest machine polisher?

Recommended Posts

Guys just a quick one.

What would you reccomend as the safest machine polisher to start off with?

I've always done everything by hand to date but I wouldnt mind having a go at correcting some minor swirling with a machine polisher of some sort. Are the Dual Action jobbies safer to use for a beginner?

Any reccomendations?

DA or Orbital polishers are as safe as houses, as you simply cannot get the paint hot enough to do any damage with. That said, you then can't get out the deepest of scratches with them either but if they're that bad you're probably going to use specialist help anyway.

The Meguiars one as demonstrated by the guys themselves seems to be a bit of a bargain, and is probably where I'd drop my money right now.

Kestrel DA6/Dodo DA or Megs DA, all are good.

As Dan says DA is the way to go for learning, theres no reason you should need a proper rotary polisher unless you have some serious experience, especially with Zed paint

i'd use the DA with a good polish compound, and then for the really bad scratches that the DA wont get out use something like poorboys blackhole glaze to help hide them. you can use the DA to apply this and should help get a flawless finish.

Megs G220 is the only one I have experience of using but its ace! :#1:

And its quite widely accepted that I'm a disaster zone so if anyone was going to sear a hole in the paintwork.........its me.

So I usually use Dodo lime prime as a cleaner, then good old AG super resin polish after that. Could I use both of these with a DA? Or would I be better off going for machine specific products?

AG Super Resin isn't a machine polish. I think it'd break down far too quick. Best to invest in Machine polishes.

Something to bear in mind, If you are not 100% confident in using the machine for polishing then get a finishing pad and use the machine for a glaze or sealant to get to grips with it.

Actually, AG SRP works quite well via DA, but it is very dusty. Personally I'd stick with Lime Prime as that has some cut to it, the same as SRP, and then use a decent wax on top (Dodo Supernatural), topped up with Dodo Red Mist

I`d be quick if your looking to purchase the Meguires G220. Meguires are bringing out an updated model in a few months, so the G220 is becoming extinct very fast. Try Amazon, but you will be lucky if you get hold of one, I think. Many sites on there say they have stock, but once youve purchased, they reply next day explaining no stock available and awaiting latest model development!

Kestrel and Dodo DA (both the same thing) are as good as the Megs, Dodo does have a nice Dodo bag though. My Kestrel has been faultless. Tim@Envy supplies them

Yup can help with the Buff daddy and the Megs G220.

As stated the Megs G220 will be replaced v shortly by Version 2 and dont expect things to get cheaper, in fact quite the opposite.

I did a deal a little while ago, and can check if Meguiars still have stock (but last I heard they were running it down ready for V2)
