Her: "You remember I told u they inherited some money in an Irish bank account?" Me: "Yeah vaguely, why?" Her: "They were really worried about the whole Ireland situation and decided transfer it over here, but they lost £15,000 doing it" Me: "How do you mean?" Her: "They had 100k, now its only 85k" Me: "Yes, but over there it was in Euros, now its in pounds and you have to account for the exchange rate" Her: "£15k is still a HELL of a lot to lose" Me: "They haven't lost 15k. They haven't lost anything. They had 100k euros, now they have 85k pounds, both of which are worth about the same in todays market" Her (getting livid) : THEY HAVE FIFTEEN THOUSAND LESS. How is that the same thing! Me: If I took a hundered dollar bill and exchanged it at the post office for £60, have I lost £40?
