What would 15K get me?..and a few other questions

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

i've been dipping my toe into the forum over the last few months researching bits and bobs while looking into a potential new car, as time has gone on the list had dwindled and the 350z has made it to my short list and for my first post i wanted to pose a few questions if i may.

My first is regarding what i should expect to get for my budget of 15K in terms of spec, year, mileage etc.

Ideally I'd be after an 06 plate (cheaper tax bracket, it will have a private plate on it anyway), 296 bhp, gun metal grey, low miles, low owners, orange interia but not too fussed, sat nav, bose etc....is that a realistic spec for 15K?

I'm also keen on getting a grip on servicing costs, i've keep hearing vastly different prices for the P1, P2 and P3....can anyone give me an idea please?

Are there any big potential maintenence costs beyond basic servicing that i may have missed? I'm after a 3rd car for weekend use so mileage would be kept pretty low but i wondered if there were any inherrant problems that have cropped up.

And finally, just out of curiosity, has there ever been a recorded 0-100 time for each of the 3 engine specs? to date I have only seem the 309bhp quoted at 13.3 (I think) in Evo magazine.

Thanks in advance for any replys.

I got my 07 facelift for 16k with 15,000 miles on it 313 version. It's not the GT but then I've never been one for electric seats (I'm still young my arms work  ), I don't really like cruise control so that would have been a wasted feature on me, and the Bose isn't the best, you got a V6 for that! But in answer to your question 15k should be fine for what you're after. I just had a P2 service, cost £300 quid but then that was at a Nissan garage and to be honest once it's out of warranty I'll be taking it to a Nissan specialist for a lower price.

You'll get all you want for 15k .... buy from someone known to 350Z-UK members and you'll have no probs

0-100 = around 14 secs

servicing isn't expensive ...around £200.00

only big cost is fuel .. but then it is a performance car, not a shopping trolley

Welcome to the club, lots of helpful people here. lots of info worth reading and its advised to sit down for 2 weeks and browse with the search button as most things have been covered before. but i'll get you started off.

296 bhp cars are in the new tax bracket, if you want cheaper tax you need to find one registered before april the 20th 2006. to give you an idea i bout mine about 18 months ago for dead on 15k and it was a 2006 with 12k on the clock and full GT pack. for your money you might even be able to get the newer 313 model

I'm also keen on getting a grip on servicing costs, i've keep hearing vastly different prices for the P1, P2 and P3....can anyone give me an idea please?

my last service was a P3 which is the biggie i spent about £100 on consumables and £220 for the service it's self prices vary around the country general consensus is if its out of warranty take it to a zed specialist and avoid nissan dealerships like the plague. i think P1's are around £100 and P2's are about £150 ish spark will need doing at about 54,000

zeds are pretty bullet proof as long as they have been well looked after and serviced regularly, the only expensive maintance cost i've come across is the gear box/clutch have been a few people who've had to put new clutches in after about 30k but the majority last for ages.

there is a thread on here discussing 0-60's but i think it also talked about 0-100's as well, you'll need to search for it as i can;t remember where it is

hope that helps

Excellent...thanks very much for the speedy and very informative replys.

Thankfully i have a company credit card for all my fuel needs so that'll cut down on my outgoings...nothing quite like a little white lie on my mileage claims to top up my weekend car :D

So i won't get a 296bhp on the cheaper tax? i don't know why but i had in my head that the cut off date for cheaper tax was March 23rd so when I've been looking on Autotrader and pistonheads that's what I have had in mind.

I keep checking various website with 350z for sale but have yet to come across exactly what i'm after....if anyone knows of anybody on here who may be looking to move on to pastures new in June, July time I'm all ears.

Thanks again.

As already said if you want the cheaper tax bracket then 15k maybe a little over the top even if the car has very low mileage, if you have that budget why not look at new ones with the better interior, better engine and just suck in the extra £200+ tax...

Or get one in a proper colour ( not just primer ) and without the David Dickinson leather :p

Makes sense...for the sake of a couple of quid extra on tax the plus points seem to out weigh the minus points.

The thinking behind the Dicko leather was that with a grey car I'd like the inside to be nice and bright.

They just can't be compared to a Zed.

Scooby STI is a turbo rally nutter saloon car with 4WD. The EVO is a turbo rally nutter saloon car with 4WD and the tommi mak is desirable, collectable and AWESOME!

The Zed looks a hell of a lot better but doesn't go as much, doesn't grip as much and has a torquey NA engine with RWD.

I'd advise driving all the cars to see what you want. If you want a thump in the back get a turbo nutter. If you want a good looking GT car with an exploitable chassis then get a Zed.
