Windows7

I've got it too - serious improvement and is much more refined.

If you have Vista, get rid of it and go to 7.

Vista = makes you do what it wants to do

Windows 7 = it does what you want it to do

Plus nothing was incompatible when I upgraded and I have a lot of dev software on their too.

Just installed (Windows7) last night

B)

installed norton IS in less than 30 seconds

:surrender:

Norton is made of fail and AIDS. Horrible piece of bloatware. But yeah, Win7 is a great improvement over Vista in terms of how it structures things on the desktop, but it's not really any different underneath. Few tweaks here and there sure, but it's still Windows. Plus I'm still bitter that Vista worked first time for me, but with Win7 I had to spend 6 hours trying a billion different drivers for my 9800GTX before the stupid thing would work out the resolution for my monitor

I am a norton man and *thouchwood* have never had a virus is in all the years i have been using it.

I stole a copy of windows 7 from 7 and stuck it on my laptop. Thus far i have not noticed any speed improvements from vista, in fact the start up seems a little slower.

The laptop is a fairly high spec and i did a clean install of 7.

It seems to me that they have follow the same philosophy as with Office 2007 and the Ribbon interface, I.e Pretty much the same functionality but all moved into a diffrent place. Like, what the hell is the show desktop button doing in the bottom right hand corner?

Windows key and M

I have Windows 7, got it on the prepay price of £45 from Pc World. Its a big step up from XP which was the last OS I used on my old PC.

As far as ditching that bastard piece of 'software' that is Norton goes, try Avast. It does everything you need it to do and is very unobtrusive, as well as using about a tenth of the memory that Norton wants. Get the home version for free mind, not the Pro version unless you really want to make use of the extra bits. Others are Sophos (as mentioned) and AVG, or anything apart from Norton or McAfee.

i rarly use a virus scan. i used to use avast, its good. But doesn't that last for a year? im sure after it tried to get me to pay for it. avg ok too.

But i do like windows 7. tried it in beta, thought it was ok. went back to vista, now im back on 7 and its great. looks good n everything.

Betty Swollocks?

Been using 7 for about 6 weeks now and love it, had no issues, beats vista hands down. (Had no issues with vista either though apart from speed!)

Great features if your a Office 2007 user for live view of docs within My Computer, you dont have to open the Ap to view..

Run Sophos, great product, just sits there and does what it needs to when its needed!! Think lots use AVG too though..

Graphics Card 2: Radeon HD4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express

Optical Drive One: LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Reader & HD-DVD ROM

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)

Also Ordered a Matrox triplehead2go and 3 x 22" monitors :D

Am looking forward to testing windows 7, stayed away from vista and been using XP for far too long. Recieved my developers version of Windows 7 enterprise, windows 7 Ultimate and Windows Server 2008 R2 in the post from microsoft yesterday so may have a little play before my new pc arrives.

Its very interesting cos ive always been a fan of AMD and would never touch ATI graphics cards either. The reason ive gone for what ive gone for is a mate of mine owns a company called Wired2fire, they specialise in overlocking pc and are highly rated by a lot of the magazines. I spoke to one of the company Gurus who said to me that there has been a lot of problem with Nvidia later spec grahics cards and said the current ATI lines are bulletproof. Ive been out of the hardware industry for many years now so im taking his word for it, im sure the prrof will be in the pudding so to speak. The actual machine ive bought is a slightly customised version of a build that won PC Gamers editors choice this year. Ive had a few problems with my machine overhating and this machine is supposed to stay ultra cool as it has some part of it water cooled. Its already been built and been overlocked and is currently sitting on a bench being put through its paces so i know when i get it it should cope with whatever i can throw at it. If anyone is in the market for a new machine i can seriously recommend www.wired2fire.co.uk.

i've always bought nvidia until now, plus ati's drivers are so much better than they used to be but still not perfect, then again what is.

the last few rounds of GPU wars as been won by ATI (4800 and 5800 series cards) on price and performance, wonder what the g300 series is gonna be like whenever it gets released :headhurt:
