Really need advice - UPDATE

Not really, no. They'll want to save their costs, and right now they can go back to the garage with the footage and get it done for free: If they go elsewhere, it's coming directly out of their profit and they've already paid for it once. Anyone would do exactly the same.

Racism has no place in this country. Take your footage to your dealer and show them, be polite but also don't hold back on letting them know how disappointed and upsetting it is to hear that. You're a customer of theirs, it's not only in their best interest as a business, but also as human beings to make sure the people responsible for racist comments are dealt with.

Take it to the highest level if necessary. I guarantee someone is going to get an absolute bollocking if you play your cards right.

But first port of call, get your car sorted. No good getting the employees fired only to still have a broken car sat outside.

And obviously don't let them have the recording, that's your trump card. Good luck sorting this out. We shouldn't have to read stories of this nature. The world is turning into an unpleasant place (outside of this forum).

Make a copy and keep it at home anyway

I cant believe no-one else has asked this yet so allow me to be the first.

Can you stick the dashcam footage on youtube so we can see the bit about them reading through the email and the likes? Not fussed about the whole 30days worth of footage of course :stir:

If it were anyone else I'd be asking the same thing Sargara ;) but I'm going to hold back on posting footage just yet. Have a meeting with the dealership manager lined up, footage will be shown to them and we'll see what they feel like the solution is.

Personally, I would keep it back, in case it gets legal you don't want the footage in the public space.

Absolutely no legal reason to not have that footage in the public domain, regardless of criminal or civil action.

That said, I would still keep it private. Even if this is resolved to your satisfaction, I wouldn't release the footage.

Never said I would hold it back for legal reasons, only if it did start going through courts I think from a professional perception point of view that you didn't go splashing it all over social media slagging off the garage etc and that you kept it professional.

Very little winds me up more than racist remarks between people when folk think there's no one listening. Keep your powder dry. Do not publicly release it until you have gotten 100% satisfaction from whichever company you had an agreement with.

Upon being given what you ask for, seek for serious disciplinary action for the men who racially abused you. If you achieve neither of the above - pick a tabloid and watch the fireworks.

No company will tell you how they discipline their employees, and tbh neither should they.

Focus on getting your car fixed, not what was said between a couple of meatheads. Sticks and stones won't mend a car, or something like that.

Plenty companies do, I can assure you.

In formal, internal complaint mode you are 100% right - they can tell you it is confidential etc etc and you have to like it or lump it.

With threat of a video going viral proving they employ staff who discriminate against asians - they will play ball & if they don't, the mirror, sun or whoever will have a field day running it.

Fair enough. :)

I still wouldn't release the video if it were me, but that's the OP's choice not mine.

As per my first post, I'm with you on gettingsatisfaction first before anything else. Always helps to have a stick handy when the carrot doesn't work.

I've arranged a meeting with the sales manager of the dealership.

For me, the main thing is getting the car repaired as I'm owed.

I suspect they'll offer to repair the car again but I don't know where I stand with rejecting this? The reason I'd reject is because I don't trust them at all.

I've found footage of them messing with the wires under the seat and talking about how if it goes wrong in future, they "haven't got to hold their hands up to it, they haven't even touched it".

I might suggest the car goes to a main dealer of specialist for the work to be carried out with them covering the cost.

I believe you have the right to reject if a. you have given the trader reasonable time to repair according to the sale contract (which clearly you have) and b. if the repair does not conform to the agreed contract of sale (which it appears it doesn't either) - there are some legal types on here who I am sure could confirm or not but it appears you have the right legally to walk in and reject the car.

Not quite sure where you'd stand with rejecting the car - think trading standards etc take the view that if it's repaired to a satisfactory condition then you can't reject it. Someone may correct me on this though...

However, I'd say you';re in a good enough position to request the work to be done somewhere other than the original garage considering what went on and even racist comments aside it seems like they weren't going to be fixing it properly which you have proof of on camera.. and definitely go specialist over main dealer if at all possible. I suspect considering the circumstances they might be quite accommodating

If you are not rejecting the car I would definitely insist that the garage they used previously is not used again. Also once you have agreed how the car will be repaired to the agreed standard I would then discuss the issue of the racist remarks and general poor behaviour of the garage they are using. As mentioned earlier, a good dealership should take this sort of behaviour very seriously and be seen to act on it.

In terms of rejection, read this http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/24/enacted

As a side point, this is what you might expect when checking the airbag light problem as there are connectors under the seat.

Just used messing with the wires as a figure of speech. No problems with what they were doing there. Just the point about avoiding liability if something went wrong that worried me.

Have to say to everyone too I appreciate all the advice and support. Meeting tomorrow so hopefully we can come to an agreement where I have a fixed car!
