  1. I'm tempted just because I kinda promised my current 4 to the missus, but I may hold off until June now to see what happens. I don't think I'll be a day 1 adoptee, at any rate.
  2. Got to be the filter. By a process of elimination, when the phone is plugged into the socket straight it's fine, but as soon as you put a filter on it then it's rubbish, then it has to be the filter, even if it was different doesn't mean you don't have two dodgy ones. /not_a_telecoms_expert
  3. Trouble is fella, I do sarcastic very well and it's a terribly efficient tool at getting a point across without resorting to base insults but also with a slight edge. I like edgy, it keeps life interesting. Look, truth be told no one is right or wrong here on either side, and I really can't be bothered to carry on a circular argument over something so petty. I'd rather leave the sniping to others who do it far batter than me, and normally behind people's backs too.
  4. It does, ish. When I said I was trying to steer the thread, I didn't mean into a pro or anti Jobs/Apple debate, I meant more into a healthy lets-not-get-too-aggressive-here discussion. That's what is called lenient modding as opposed to telling people what they can or can't say in a thread. I'm still not sure what you're arguing over though, whether it was the fact that I dared try and start a discussion without being abusive, not slapping LRH down immediately or not deleting the petty comment from SMD that was trying to incite a reaction.
  5. Right, so a thread dedicated to Jobs isn't the right place to discuss whether he's worthy of the accolades that some give him? So we need a brand new thread for that, and just leave one thread open for "Steve Jobs RIP" messages? I really don't understand the big uproar over this, surely we can debate the issue like adults without having to dictate to people what they can and can't say in each separate thread? As long as you're prepared to argue your point without being abusive or petty, I really don't see the problem. If any of the Mods had felt that LRH had gone way over the top we'd have removed the post. For me, I'd rather steer people in the right direction than just edit and delete willy-nilly.
  6. Yes, please do. Or perhaps you'd like to carry on PM'ing some of the other users on here about my posts as you've done before? And yet, of course, it's the mods that want to cause arguments, isn't it? I don't see any harm in discussing how Jobs will be remembered in this thread as long as it is kept respectful. I don't think LRH was coming on too strong really, and I was hoping to guide the discussion in a way that would be constructive for us all to see just what Jobs did for the world over the course of his life. I don't actually see how that could be a bad thing, really.
  7. Jobs' contemporaries in the tech world have all (quite rightly) praised his abilities in business, marketing, leadership... None are throwing around words like "innovator" or "inventor": http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/apple/bill-gates-leads-tributes-to-steve-jobs-1032067 Neither am I. I'm saying that he was as important to the development of current technology as the original inventors, just in a different way.
  8. No-one anywhere on the interweb that I can see has ever said that. Thinking about this a bit more, would it be wrong to compare Job (and Gates for that matter) in the same breath as Bell, Turing etc? Granted, the physical invention of something is different from a software invention, but can we honestly say that they haven't revolutionised our lives too? I'm not sure if I'm pushing the connection there too much, but I can't find an argument against it either.

  10. Such a shame, but at least it shows that he kept with the company for as long as it was physically possible which can't be easy when your body is full of cancer. Anyone would think the stubborn git was hanging on just until the 4S launched too! As a self-confessed technology freak, albeit one that was very late to the Apple party but threw himself into it head first, thanks for everything Steve.

    350Z Panamera

The wheels are shockingly bad, but I absolutely love the rest of it. It looks purposeful and aggressive, and with the shorter length the design doesn't look as 'stretched cigar' as the proper Panny does. Stunning. And so much better than it was before, too.
  12. Without trying to sound like the proverbial broken record, surely winter time is the last time you would ever want to consider running mixed tyres? Certainly running same size all round is a recipe for disaster fella, do it properly and do it right
  13. Bugger, that's what I suspected Cheers for that mate.
  14. As per the title, really! The little plastic clip that holds the three separate flaps of the air vent on the pax side door on my brother's 350Z has somehow popped itself off, and the flaps are now flapping freely. I had half a go trying to put it back on yesterday with the vent on but it'd really not going to happen that way, so I then gave it half a tug and tried to pull the outside ring off (the bit that you can spin to direct the vent) but that didn't want to come and I didn't want to break it. Can you just pull it off, or do you need to remove the entire door card?
  15. It's b*llocks. Someone did the maths on it last time it came round and it worked out that you could save a whopping 33p a year, or something equally daft like that. Any nonsense about the vapours is peanuts compared to the weight saving from driving around with 1/4 of a tank rather than a full one.
  16. I disagree with the feminine bit, but the other points there are pretty fair. Ironically none of them concern the drive though, which is by far and away the most thrilling part of the car/s.
  17. Actually, thinking about this a bit more I think Apple are trying to do more here than just an incremental update to an existing product. I think they're actually trying to distance themselves from the tech race we've all grown accustomed to and are focusing more on the software side, which is clearly where the innovations are yet to be made. Faster CPU, faster GPU, more storage, this is all stuff that any company can put together. The real interest is in what the software can do, and after essentially binning my Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the last couple of weeks because the OS is so incredibly flaky, there's no way I'm ever swapping an iOS phone for an Android one.
  18. I am disappoint. Siri looks very cool but I can't see myself using it that much, and I use my iPhone for simple games not huge epic things (Infinity Blade works very well on the iPad but not so good on the iPhone IMHO). A better camera is a nice touch but it's perfectly acceptable as it is and I have my D90 for proper photos. I don't need any more space at all either, so the 64GB is pointless for me. I so wanted this to be amazing, and it's really not. It's still better than any Android phone that I can see, but it's not enough to make me rush out and get it.
  19. And this is why I'd never do a TF day there. Through no fault of your own, you can end up massively screwed.
  20. I'd say it looks spectacularly good value rather than suspiciously cheap.
  21. Overheard a couple of chaps at the PH SS meet yesterday when walking past a silver Zed... "So what you think of these then?" "Yeah they're alright, I still think of them as Datsuns though" "That's because they are Datsuns really!" I think they were being complimentary rather than snidey, made me chuckle though.
  22. Should've stuck your head over for the PH SS at the Porsche Driving Centre, you might even have seen me there! Shame how few cars were left running by the time I got there at 9am though, and gutted for the 370Z lot.
  23. Slave and/or master cylinder on the way out, guarantee it. Do yourself the favour and get both changed as it's the clutch bleeding that takes the cost, not the parts themselves.
  24. 100K sigs also doesn't guarantee a 'full Parliamentary debate', it only guarantees a few token backbenchers chat about it round a table
