HPI is only a very basic guide, it won't cover log book loans or repairs done outside of insurance. Use your eyes and ask the right questions, and if it looks odd then walk. Otherwise spend more and buy from a dealer to give you the extra protection.

Get underneath and have a look, if necessary fill with water to see where it's all coming from. Definitely coolant and not anything else? If it is coolant and it's a hose loose or damaged, then you obviously need to get it fixed BEFORE driving anywhere else, especially in those kind of temps.

There were a couple of race-spec mk1s there today too, and it was both depressing and exhilarating to watch the ease they blew past me as technically they're exactly the same car so I shouldn't be that much slower (!), but then it was also good to know that eventually mine will be that quick too!
