I know, I'm a lucky man. Fran made me pies the other day too, what more can you reasonably ask for eh? Hopefully the Zed can come through it all scratch free, but I'm mentally preparing myself to not let any knocks spoil the trip! We're staying just outside the Paris peripherique, on the Versailles side. Think I might be driving to that hotel outside rush hour!

Well, that's most of the trip sorted out. The Lady has happily agreed to the driving bit as long as there's no silly length days in the car, so we're trying to keep stints down to 3hrs or so, and have decent stops in fewer locations than you would on a total driving holiday. We're going mid July, for just over three weeks. The itinerary is as follows: Cumbria > Oxford area Oxford > Portsmouth> Overnight ferry to Le Havre Le Havre > Paris Paris > Dijon area Dijon > Feisch (Switzerland) Fiesch > Lenno, Como. Lenno > Grindelwald (Eiger!) +One night in the Monchjoch Hut at 10,000ft! Grindelwald > Baden-Baden Baden-Baden > Cologne (And 'ring visit hopefully) Cologne > Ijmuiden Ijmuiden > Overnight Ferry > Newcastle Newcastle > Home! I'm looking for a recommendation for a nice overnight stop in the Dijon area, if anyone has any particular choices.

Yep, tax is mental on new cars, but that £840 rate is just for the first year of registration. after that it'll be £475.

Saris racks get a good write up, should fit ok, as the back of the Zed is kind of saloon shaped. Any external rack will scuff the paint up though!

Well the Kona is basically old stock now as it isn't a current model. The Trance is a better bike, I've demo'ed it, and you'll be able to get the current 2014 model. Also consider the Trek Fuel if you fancy the Giant. They are both regular trail bikes, but will take a bit of AM abuse as long as you're not too fast or brutal with them. Consider that a budget full sus might weigh 32lbs+ where as a hardtail at the same money will likely be at least 25% lighter. Worth considering if you've been out of it for a bit.

You won't get a good, reliable full susser for 1200 unless you go mail order unfortunately, unless you buy second hand or get lucky in the sales. You could have a great, lightweight hardtail for that though. If you go that route, get 29" wheels and it'll do nearly anything anyway If you go mail order, you could just try finding someone who has one, or emailing the manufacturer for sizing guides. Do you have any models in mind?

You can buy CPUs with either retail packaging (with fan and heatsink) or without.
