  1. This thread explains why I highlighted the concern: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=15053 For the first 15K miles on my 296 engine the oil consumption was light but then I noticed it getting worse although only about a litre every 4-5k miles. Whether the GT4 engines were built to different tolerances or in a different factory, I do not know but when I did some research some way back the comment 'round pistons in oval bores' stuck in my mind. The fact an engine does consume oil is not necessarily a bad thing - many are designed to do that and ZED engine failures do seem to be very rare. Perhaps my choice of the word 'most' was incorrect noting it has attracted those who have not experienced oil consumption like myself and clearly a number of others have experienced, which as far as I am aware was never an area of concern with the 276 engines.
  2. Unusual - the UY has been popular with the fairer sex in our experience, and especially with the factory Nismo kit, but if you are not too much of a rush I'm sure a Kuro GT4 will come along that is also within budget
  3. You may not have to - check out the link in this thread viewtopic.php?f=41&t=37121&start=0 No idea what the car is like but the right kit/colour and I'm sure if sound could be had within your budget
  4. As you say the GT4 got the 300 (296) engine but that engine was not adopted into the mainstream UK ZEDs until 2006, although they were previously available in Japan before then so some might have come in as imports. The UK supplied 300s known as the MY06 ('MY' is model year) first became available in mid 2006 although we are aware that many of the pre-facelift 276 versions (MY03) were still unsold well into 2007. That has created confusion both amongst sellers and buyers, with some in the trade compounding the confusion. We also know of at least one MY06 (UK car) that was registered prior to the March 2006 tax hike (first registered o a Director at Nissan GB). Having had both 276 and 296 engined ZEDs, IMO there is nothing to chose between them on the road, but of course the MY06 facelift does benefit from other upgrades. Be aware as well that most 296 engines, other than those built for the GT4's, are known to consume oil whereas most owners of the 276 engined ZEDs find oil cosumption between services negigible. Hope this helps
  5. If they are RE40's bin 'em - great for some tail-out action on track but on the road , frankly useless in the wet. If they are RE50's then opinion is divided but are certainly a big step up from the 040's. Checking back through this thread will reveal all. BTW - how about an intro as this was your first post
  6. He provides the customer service that so many Nissan dealers fail to deliver - I doubt if anyone knows more about the 350 than Alex and I even hear Nissan GB have been known to seek out his expertise, which says it all
  7. Jeez - I recall the surface there is abrasive from days when I did autotesting - remember getting through a pair of virtually new pair of tyres doing the various handbrakes/360's and that was on a Beetle (a little modified to get on terms with Escort Mexico's and the like, you understand )
  8. Driving a car that is designed for high speed is inherently safer within our present speed limits than one that is not or dare I say where the emphasis is on co2 saving etc or modified cars that have upped the power but have not suitably compensated in the braking/handling departments such that when those cars are pushed at 60/70 mph the road holding and braking are getting towards their design limits. When I drive the same the roads in my wife's Jazz, rather than the ZED, it really is a case of being so much more aware that its design limitations such that it does invoke a sense of the speed limits being more justified. And that is the difficulty we are up against as those who dictate the controls on our roads simply see speed as the "be all and end all" and use safety/green reasons to justify keeping limits that throw back to times when servo/disc brakes were a rarity, crossply tyres ruled and cars were being produced with relatively high power outputs but poor suspension/brakes that would not properly cope and hence accidents increased leading to the limits that have been around for decades. So yes, for many performance cars the speed limits are unreasonable but then when you see some of the driving on our roads and whatever the car (or van!), you can see why those who govern these things feel the answer is for speed limits to get stricter. A particular beef of mine is that Highways Authorties do not consistently apply advanced warnings of speed restrictions you are approaching - how many times do you suddendly come across a 30mph limit with no advanced warning immediately after a 60mph section? Frustration is clearly a big cause of accidents - often caused by drivers who decide that their 40mph in a 60 zone is appropriate creating a queue of vehicles behind and rather than pulling in to let them by it ends up creating overtakes that inevitably carries relatively high risks. Whether I am in the ZED or the Jazz and I see just one car behind that clearly wants to go quicker I will let them by as soon as I see somewhere safe to pull in/over - I don't care if is a Morris Minor - I would rather they have their accident away from me. Oh for the Scottish approach that requires slow drivers to pull over and let others pass - it makes driving there a real pleasure I feel better now
  9. any idea of cost? Have you won the lottery then I seem to recall about £3k for all four wheels, without tyres. It was a member in Belgium who has done the swop but can't find the thread now but guess he did it when the Euro was strong........
  10. Yup. VQ engines have always been noted as being harsh top end. Not helping the matter is the VQ37VHR revs even higher and is more harsh. Saying that, its not normally noticed as a vibration, more the engine sounds harsh hence my comments about a new exhaust. Maybe you should take it for a quick once over at the dealers? Unfortunately I cant rev mine that high just yet, still under 1k miles. Colin (Ebized) or Mat should be able to confirm as they have more miles on theirs. Can't say that I find the engine 'harsh' at high revs but then again, as Chris says, with the Stillen cat-back exhaust I had fitted with just 250 miles on the clock I have not heard it as standard. But going back to when I got to drove the fully run-in 370 examples at Silverstone with the standard exhaust systems, I can't say I was aware of undue harshness then - ah - just rembered had the crash helmet on Having given mine some beans around Wales recently it is truly a step up from the 350 And it is nice to have some great torque in the mid range which makes overtaking when cruising effortless - even more so than with the 276 or 296 350's and they, as everyone on here who has a 350 knows, are no slouches in that department
  11. Yep, that is a downside of Wales too many sheep about - not sure how to resolve that one All adds to the fun but if any of you found some good roads whilst looking for the pack let us know
  12. Looks stunning Chris - in the flesh that Quartz is truly supurb and love the red wheel calipers. Shame I didn't wait around 6 months as that would have been my choice too, but it would have to be a manual - I'm not old enough yet for hand controls Once you get the Stillen on it will transform the car and with the intakes you have opted for as well it is going to sound awesome Our two 370's sat ready for the off at the Sportsmans Arms in Wales for a rear-end comparison, with Markie trying to get his in on the act as well

  15. Some 4K miles on and Stillen + syncro rev match when giving it some beans = but on the motorway its a dream - just a slightly deeper note than the he OEM exhaust and easy conversation at the usual cruising speeds
  16. Some nice pics there John - shame about the reflection in the last one
  17. Do a search - 'best tyres' in the 'tyre's section Falkens/Toyos/Vred Sesstanas are popular choices at reasonable prices - and you should really have the same of all 4 corners to be sure you can get the best from the car, in safety
  18. Do you reckon the fuel warnings to Lewis and Jenson was just an excuse so they would cool it and not repeat Seb's balls-up
  19. Cheers Chris - that's done it - I had not inserted the drawing canvas (right at the foot of the drop-down menu) which you did not have to do before Many thanks, the Forum has saved me again And to save others reading about my IT illiteracy the thread is locked
  20. I'm looking for the hopefully easy answer........... If you paste a picture into Office Word 2007, insert (say) an arrow from the 'shapes' tab, how do you group that pic and the arrow together so they can be copied and pasted elsewhere - that worked perfectly OK with the earlier version of Word using XP Pro, but havn't found the trick with Windows 7
