  1. last oil change i used magnatec as it was reccomend by the manufacturer for my car (not a zed) but after foing some research Castrol is a relatively small company with minimal development experience compared to the majors. They've done a cracking job of marketing though over the years and in the UK have a reputation which far (FAR) exceeds their actual product quality. In other words, their oils are okay, but they've managed to get themselves over-rated. They and a few other companies campaigned, successfully, for adjustment of the classification of synthetics - ie, at what level of base stock purity the label 'synhtetic' can be applied. Magnatec is only just a synthetic, unlike the much better base stocks of the majors - Mobil in particular who patented polymerisation of C2 gas to make perfect straight synthetic chains, and whose synthetics are in a different league to the rest. Mobil 1 remains expensive but there's a great tip for value when buying first rate quality oils - it's nice to know that thr Halfords synthetics are made by Mobil, and that Mobil doesn't make a different base stock for Halfords, just a different additive pack i'm going to try mobil on my next sevice in 2k
  2. I never knew Toyota Racing Development did nissan parts?
  3. +1 The extra revs alone make it a more exciting car to drive, even above the 296 cars. Wring its neck and fall in love. don't doubt it, but the question was how much is there between them on a drag or circuit. not saying the older ones are better, just saying there is not a lot in it
  4. whats wrong with nurrish pink love that purple
  5. not doubting neil as the car adged they developed and smoothed it out. i'd say the last one they did was the best version, smoothest gear change best delivery of power etc. the earlier ones are a bit more raw. but if you look at them on paper all 3 are very very similiar, i'd say there would be no more than maybe half a car to a cars length in it. i suppose it might dpeend on which track you put it on etc but even then its going to be a gnats testicle in it.
  6. about bugga all early ones weigh less and have more torque = quicker acceleration later ones have higher BHP but less torque and weigh more = faster top speed
  7. This is why my R6 has sat in the garage untouched for a good few years i used to go to the bike show in brum when i lived in cov, loved sitting on them, loved the looks, the feel of them, been on the back of a few, love the acceleration and feeling of exposure. closest i ever go to that feeling was a caterham. i'd love this but i know that after 35 min with my legs craped up in that race position my dodgy knee would be killing me i think i would be more comfortable and safer on something like this
  8. i'm watching out for an original set of jag recaro's to come up rare as hens teeth. although they are a bonus extra and not a priority
  9. my favourite wheels jay, but best in dark colours
  10. i'd love a bike, my wife on the other hand doesn't love me to have a bike, and like you i have nip nadda experience on one. what i do know is i'm very likely to wipe myself out cos i'm a muppet. tempted to get a trike no need for a bike licence
  11. never drove an xk8 so can;t comment on them, i'd say the jag is an aquired taste, i love it but it has it's weaknesses. can't explain why i love it more than the zed but i do. there are things the zed does better, but for me i have caught the jag bug, which i never did with the zed. I tried to catch it, i wanted to catch it. but the XKR is everything i wanted in a GT car. as for tinkering it just so happens to have gone in for an ABS issue, £200 to repair, turns out when mine was built they trapped the rear harness between the sub frame and the chassis, 11 years on it finally wore through and earthed out on the chassis. i suppose thats what you get when brummies are responsible for putting your car together already replaced 2 coil packs 2 wheel speed sensors jobs to do: brush down and paint seal the underside of the car is going to be about £150 sort the rust out on the rear of the car anywhere between £1k-£2k (depends on what i do with it) timing chain tensioners need doing thats another £1000 although i might do the lower pulley at the same time and squeeze another 40 bhp out. (that will only cost me £120) but i love tinkering possibly a crazy person theres some other tidiyng work to do. possibly another £600 of work but then the car would be in mint condition.
  12. i would have said about £6.5k to £7k
  13. We cant ban a founding member unfortunately, phpBB wont let us - not that we've tried
  14. Fixed suffee's are lovely people, they can all count to 12 on their hands and 24 if they use their feet as well
  15. sad times, shame you haven't got some other kind of sports car to cheer yourself up with. i always found ferraris made me feel better.
  16. looks like its just ipswich GH which is populated by numpties then.
  17. i'm 30 and my insurance renewal at the end of this month with 5 years NCB is £400 for a 4 litre SC V8 down £200 from last year now that i turned 30
  18. a turd is still a turd how ever much you polish it, have you tried using your cleaning products on cars?
  19. i'm classed as the pre 2001 bracket
  20. 1. I have to admit I haven't heard a Zed with an aftermarket exhaust IRL, but the Zed as stock has a beautiful note IMO. 2. I wasn't saying they aren't out there, but if I found one in comparable Zed condition and miles, it started to approach 5 figure territory Which I just didn't have. 3. But then I lose the OEM look of the Jag dash. A flashy Sony etc head unit wouldn't look that great in a Jag IMO. 4. Ref No. 2 5. I am not disputing it's worth good money if it's a great example, but my pocket just wasn't deep enough. I wouldn't say it's twice the car, though. Yes it has an extra 500/700cc, 20bhp and 2 more pots, the seats are like sitting in a palace and even your shopping gets to feel comfortable in the rear storage area/seats, but the Zed has more gadgets and easier to customize to your exact taste. 6. Yup, but his is one of those XK's that won't be for sale because they are so perfect. I have no doubt an XKR with it's extra 120 supercharged HP will @*!# all over a Zed, but I was after an 8, not an R, insurance would rip me a new one if I went with a 4.2 V8 400bhp monster! completly understand where you're both coming from, you're right about rust, i have a few areas to fix at some point, at the moment i'm making sure its mechanically perfect before i play with noise and looks etc. standard xhaust has 5 silencers in it which is great on long drives as its so quiet. as for gadgets my XKR has more than the zed, auto lights, auto wipers, auto dimming rear view and auto dimming wing mirrors. sat nav, handsfree, adaptive cruise. full electric memory seats. but you are right when it comes to running one. its not a jag if something isn't broken on it. but if your handy with a spanner then there is lots of 2nd hand parts, basically avoid jag dealerships unless its a part you need. hadit a year and spent about £200 on parts to fix things etc. its the old horses for course debate. as for parts there is a fair bit of fiddling to be done on the jag, but none of it cheap.
  21. personally i'm not a glynn hopkin fan, dealt with their dealership before in Ipswich, i wouldn't trust their mechanics to find their own genitals in a sex exam. saw mechanics ragging cars in the car park. if you had to go main dealer the only one in the southeast i think is OK is marshalls. their cambridge one is a nissan performance centre, and see alot more than just micra's
  22. you can wash a car as normal, you just can't use a hose pipe, so rinse with buckets
