Noise activated roadside cameras
GranTurismoEra replied to HEADPHONES's topic in Off Topic Discussion
At point of sale would require auditing by third party on which products are being sold....ie decat systems and pops and bang tuning....tuning beyond reasonable limits ie GTR stage 5/6. Similar tuning is made illegal in some countries. Sounds like it all ties into proposed tampering laws. Or maybe they're trying to copy US system especially in places like California where they clamp down on loud exhausts. Noise cameras will be rolled out on high streets and residential areas. On the highway it's a bit of a tricky one. PS in London DVSA can stop at anytime any vehicle to conduct a roadside MOT test as been the case with a mate. Usually they set up at the side on a layby pulling HGV and trucks over. They're usually there with traffic officers. I've also seen traffic cops looking under the hood of a guys car. He may or may not have a clue what he's looking at. -

All v8 F types, Mustangs, Porsche 911 pre OPF and the like should either go to the dealer to get a software update or stay out of dynamic!/sport modes... 🤬. They're all loud stock from factory. Even with software and loss of pops and bangs. V8 cause vibrations. V10 V12 and W16 are even louder. V12 cold starts are harsh and sudden... Built for residences with their own land not terraced housing Goodluck trying to convince officer perkins it's a stock exhaust while he writes you a ticket. -

Great programme. Not seen beyond season 1 and one of my old colleagues is now a farmer abroad. I sent him this series. He loved it. -

If they could cut the useless talking with Yiannimize and co down and make it more concise like some other channels. IE 3 drag races and rolling race in quick succession no silly brake challenge. Can cram the intro and the main bits into 5-6 minutes Lol. Most people skip straight to race and skip the talking bits with less people watching till the end. Usually a comment that tells you when the race starts lol hard to avoid spoilers though There was a time 911 Turbo S held the title against all comers. Cheap and quick entertainment. Thats what the masses want as Youtube is so saturated with the average person subscribed to multiple channels and times limited in daily life. They do get some amazing exclusive cars on there. -

Tough call but they're lagging behind in views compared to Car Wow and the like. With 8 million subs compared to Carwows 8 mill + you'd expect more views. The drag racing format bring in views. The carwow format suits people's attention spans. I suppose not enough Chris Harris. Sometimes the host is the draw. Mat Watsons well known and personality matters. Get Clarkson back and the views skyrocket. Harris is on a different channel (collecting cars) . I suppose he can still freelance from Time to time at a cost! More freedom on YouTube within reason. Interesting to see the likes of Autotrader coming up on subscribers. Still a way to go. Lots of competition in this area like Hagerty etc. -

True. YouTube side isn't going away. Although their numbers could be a bit better. -

Unfortunately the money from Youtube (couple grand per upload) may not be on the same level as Top Gear have been pouring into their shows. Either get investors on or find a bigger budget or scale down the entertainment side and focus a bit more editing and cinematic style reviews. Amazon spent £4.5 million per show apparently on Grand Tour. BBC Spent around £833,000 per show. I think this includes wages of the 3 freelancers lol. Lets say they took on Chris Harris, Rory and Matt Le Blanc on a new show. I reckon they will spend significantly more on renegotiated contracts, stunts and special effects. Around 1- 2 million per episode. As Davey said you spend the money and theres a 3+ month delay from filming to screens. Youtubers have already got first dibs on new products. Youtubers are releasing content as quickly as a day or two. Especially if they are good at speed editing. -

The landscape has changed. Online reviews are doing the job. Although the entertainment part is often missing (explosions, stunts and movie like scenes). Thats where a budget is required. Obviously a media company that makes its money from advertising etc can make it happen and create an online platform without needing a TV Channel. Anyone that manages to do this can possibly extract more viewers online than CarWoW who often get around a million plus per drag race video. -

Appearing on BBC Breakfast today (November 9), Harris told hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt: “I think he’s healing. “It was a serious incident," he continued. "I’m not going to say any more than that. As I’ve said in the book and in the few interviews I’ve given, I’m so proud of the fact that team Top Gear kept everything quiet and we were dignified. “There is nothing out there about what happened, there won’t be. There’s no mole in the organisation. I’m really, really proud of that. No Mole?! LOL....loads of moles at the local station! Some in bed with Daily Mail -

1600 to 1800kg seems to be the norm now for 4 door sedans and 2 door sport coupes. Technology makes the weight penalty non existent. Tbh in a crash you want a rock solid car. It comes at a cost. Weight savings are great for track times and power to weight not so much safety and comfort. Depends what the priority is. @Umster I did consider the Q60 at some point. There are some that have steer by wire which had issues. Most of the Q50 I've seen were hybrid? The 4 door version. Apparently they've got issues.

Extra weight upfront? Maybe it had a worn clutch as well. Then gear ratios too

Maybe back in the day the manuals felt more torquey than the lazier torque converter autos. DCT however was a different beast. BMW dropped it probably due to costs. ZF does a good job anyway. A weekend blaster for the pennines and peak district, manual. As you start to cramp up it's already 4pm and dark. It's convenient. Regarding the newer M4 and harsher ride. It seems manufacturers are not tuning cars to be driven on British roads. Back in the day even Renault got it right with sport clio. Sport suspension was very good. Very compliant. Since used car prices are headed downwards in winter. Now is good time to pick something up. Best time to buy a used car price wise. Waiting till new year everyone thinks summers coming.

Drove the E92 DCT coupe my mate had a Meisterschaft GTC on it. Driving through Dartford Tunnel to Essex wow. I had to cover my ears. It was like a 1000 trumpets at once. It was good because you could tinker with the shifts and how aggressive they were. There was a high spec range rover on the case. Let's just say it was nowhere to be seen once in Sport Mode and opened up. It wasnt the best torque wise but when my mate put his foot down once it picks up it no slouch. It's faster than Z. He did have issues with Rods and Actuator or something. Both expensive repairs. Had it 5 years sold it for 15k still with the Yiannimize wrap. His was mapped. Very loud. I estimated he spent in total 52k on mods, running it, insurance, service and the car itself. That's based on what he let me know

Crazy. But the threshold is usually over 25 when it gets cheaper. Mine at 24 was 1300 on a 1.6 Golf. So that's good going considering. City center higher number of collisions and thefts. Premiums have gone up a bit post Covid.
